So I have some silver bracelets that have the 925 stamped in them etc but they also have like these little green jewels in bedded in the bracelet do I have to remove all of the little jewels and everything like that before I can melt it down also I did a first melt and apparently I have some iron that's actually melted in my first melt am I just screwed with the iron being embedded in my first melt or is there a way that I could separate the two

You should add a little borax to the silver as you melt it. You should also season the crucible with borax to reduce the porosity and prevent sticking. Glad you have fun with it regardless!

I agree actually did you know that back in the old days they put silver coins in there barrels or buckets of milk to keep it from spoiling and it worked ! The silver created some kind of bacteria that was beneficial to the milk. Or so i was told.

Great video! I love how you include your wife and how she loves it too! The only thing I would say to change is to add Borax. It will actually help take out impurities and help prevent the silver button from sticking to the cup. I've also heard it also helps protect the the cup and makes it last longer. this should also only be done on silver that is destroyed already, because you will actually get more for silver jewelry.

you can buy a hallmark stamp and hammer it in. since by nature if you melt sterling you get sterling
@PHUCKyoutube689

Refining to pure is pointless unless you like to operate a cell as a hobby. Infact you will come out loosing money in the end. Nitric acid, electricity, time, filters it's not worth it from a financial standpoint. Stamp weight and purity and sell to someone that has an acid test. I always add a few grams of refined crystals to my sterling bars to ensure its at least 925.

I was surprised at how quickly the silver melted. Before melting down other metals like copper or brass you may wish to do some research, like calling scrap yards, because you might have difficulty selling your nice bars which will become nice paperweights f you are inclined to do that.

Nitric acid, cement with copper, melt to shot, place shot in electrolytic cell and you will have .999 silver, refine again through cell to get .9999 and above. I would just leave them as coins as they are already a known purity and weight.

Silver is bout $23/oz today, It’s also fluctuated above and below that the last month. Right now it’s at $23, well couple cents under. And you’re absolutely right, that’s not $30. Unless you live in Canada. I’m about 99% sure these people do. Canadians, like Americans don’t usually think to convert prices or measurements for our neighbours. That being said, $23 US is juuust under $30/oz in Canadian .
