I've got a '95 F350 that's commercial chassis. The bed was 11+ feet long. Every time I hooked up a gooseneck trailer I had to climb up onto the bed to latch the hitch and safety chains. I bobbed the frame and bed so that now the bed only hangs past the rear spring hanger by about six inches. This brought the bed down to 9' 6". And now I stand my big butt on flat ground and hook the trailer. Of course everyone in town has asked if I moved the axle back now because of it no longer being in the center of the bed

A trick of the trade. When you stop welding with low hydrogen rod it leaves a crater. To easily restart the rod, when the tip cools a little, like after you get done de-slagging your bead, pinch the tip of the rod and give a little twist . The crater will crumble and expose the steel of the electrode for an easy restart! Happy welding!!!

Good to see that my methood is ok.

People make such a huge deal out of this. I've made a bunch of fame splices to trucks. Just make a chanel to go on the inside and you don't even need to weld. Dad lengthen several 18 wheelers. We went by the individual steel shop , had them break bend chanels to cap and go on the inside of each end of the additional frame length. If it hauled the over loads he hauled coast to coast , I don't sweat it anymore. We would run a 6010 root , and cap it with 7018 at the center , but never on the outside of the outer channels. That's the same way I do pickup trucks.

There's a specific way to weld frames to keep cracks from starting and it has to do with horizontal vs. Verticle, and using an overlapping plate equally thick of certain length of overlap....over the road trucks have been the litmus test for what works and what breaks....now I can't recall exactly it's been eons ago but there is a safe way but I do remember that you don't weld all 4 edges of overlapping plate

I don’t know Anthony seems like he did a lot of work for nothing I wouldn’t even worry about the overhang on that body! My trucks got 2 foot overhang If you really had to support it you could’ve ran a diagonal from the bottom of that bracket up to the bottom of the frame That’s all you would’ve needed and why didn’t you use U bolts so much easier And then you wouldn’t have messed up that nice paint job underneath now you get weld smoke all over the frame and the body you gotta repaint everything. 4 u bolts 5/8 or 3/4 Would’ve held that body on forever never a problem I’ve used them for 30 years on my trucks Entertaining video as always because you do exactly the same kind of work I do mobile rig Welding
