Most people don’t like welding and fabrication jobs like this. Maybe I’m strange, but this is honestly the work I enjoy the most. Taking something that could’ve killed people and making it safe again. Working with my brother Paul is just a bonus! I hope you take something from this video to improve your rust repair skills and maybe land that big welding job your looking to bid.
Here’s my Instagram- www.instagram....
Here’s my TikTok- / meltinmetalanthony
Here’s some tools to help you with jobs like this-
Welders gloves- amzn.to/3Kj0GhX
Neck Bib- amzn.to/3k5J5iw
Chalk line - amzn.to/3EdXJLG
Soap Stone- amzn.to/3YUfIPc
Rafter Square- amzn.to/3xpmtwJ

So many things wrong with this: Did an engineer sign off on using GMAW and 6010? Neither are AWS pre approved electrodes for structural applications. Also, that's not a CJP, complete joint penetration without welding the back side, which could have been done by cutting the siding and accessing from the back. Did you even consult an engineer? If not you're exposing yourself to all kinds of liability.

17:17 if your doing any heavy grinding Walter Xcavator discs eat metal like crazy. But wear a face shield and protective clothing because it will launch burning hot slivers of metal at you and it’s painful.

I'm a little skeptical of running short circuit MIG on 1/2" plate, especially with only a 200 amp machine. With that limitation, i would've stick welded it. 6010 root and 7018 over that.

great work. maybe think about cutting you're column shorter and adding non-shrink/structural grout underneath. mix it up wet and pour it into a small form around the base, it sets up hard in like 3 hours and that way you get complete support under the column. keep up the good work boys

Your doing it wrong! LOL not really, the way I doit is take the next size larger beam and weld plates to both end. Slide it to the old one, scribe your line and cut it out. Of course using jacks, slide in, weld top to old beam, drill the concrete for epoxy and bolts.
@wellscody86
@wellscody86 Жыл бұрын
No gap fit up and weld on those plates without beveling? Wouldn’t you be better off getting some scrap beam to splice in rather than risking not having full penetration weld?

Have done similar work to rotten columns on farms. But after the bottom collapsed six inches. Piss and shit from cattle soon eats steel and even galv steel. Used a telehandler to lift the column into place. I didn't make a repair section, just got the nearest size above because the original size was no longer available. Four years later, it's holding up well. Great video guys!
