I didn't even think I liked potato pancakes until some years back. They didn't sound good. Now, my mom died when I was 11 and she hadn't passed on her cooking skills to me. She cooked really really good. So what I liked and remembered her by, I made by trial and error. I made potato cakes one night for my husband and when I took a bite, memories flooded back of my mom. And I guess I made like she did, first try. Now I am going to make them again tonight with all of my leftovers, but it's been awhile since I've made them, so I looked up yours and I am really glad I see this recipe. And you cook so much better than I do. Yours look so pretty. I am glad you had a nice time-and it is true, that cooking makes memories. The scents and tastes get blended together and those memories stay with us-even if we just smell it, we remember. Take care.

Meme, I just thought I would share this with you. I was born and raised in Tennessee and so was my Mama. She was a wonderful southern cook. My Mom found out that she had cancer and started teaching me her special family recipes because we always went to her house for family dinners or Sunday lunch. I love to cook and I cook a lot like my Mom did. That is why she wanted me to carry on the family favorites and traditions. I loss my Mama in 2020. I have been able to carry on her recipes just the way she made them. But the one thing that I totally forgot to ask her about was how she made her potato cakes. I few weeks ago some of my family was saying “I wish you would make Mama’s (Granny’s) potato cakes and I said I know what she put in them but I couldn’t remember the consistency that they needed to be.(Flour amount). When I watched this video I knew they were exactly like my Mama’s! I can’t wait to make them. So thank you for sharing this with me. My family will be so happy to be able to have these again. I truly believe that God sent you to help me with this as I have wanted to know so badly. I miss my sweet and precious Mama everyday 😢 It’s things like this that makes me smile and brings such wonderful memories back. Thank you and God Bless you! You have made my day! Hugs 🤗

I live in Central California and love your accent!🤗I was born in Beaumont Texas (75 years ago) and I can remember my aunts and family speaking with accents like yours. The type of foods Southerners eat are slightly different from a Northerners diet/menu. My mom was a Yankee but met my dad while she was working in the South. She never developed the hunger for southern foods so we ate kind of a northern/ southern menus. She did cook some things for my dads requests. It’s like a family reunion listening to you. -and eating your southern fare. Thanks so much. I have learned a lot and it’s like vitamins to my soul. You have made Jesus shine, with love and skill. Banging the spoon on the pot you're using is satisfying, but I have fibromyalgia and sound hurts my ears badly, especially metal on metal. That might be why some people object to that sound. Don't know if anybody knew that, but I heard MeMe talking about that in one of her other videos and thought I'd explain why some people mention it. Blessings to you!

Meme I am just now learning about your channel and I am so glad I found it ❤ when I was a kid back in the 70s and 80s I was always going to church luncheons after church and family reunions and I grew up on this type of food. My great-grandmother used to have family gatherings and she used to make homemade dinners for us all and we gathered at a round table at her little bitty apartment. My mom sure doesn't cook and my aunt's they don't cook either and I don't know, I do my best to cook and I love to spend time in the kitchen. I now have two grandchildren my grandson just turned 7 years old and he's kind of a picky eater and my little granddaughter she will be 2 in July. It is absolutely necessary for family gatherings and I am definitely that grandmother and I am so glad that I can be that grandmother. I just paid off my new Whirlpool stove it's black with stainless steel and it's the most amazing oven I have ever had in my entire life. My point is I just cannot wait to use it and have my grandkids come over and make these wonderful dishes. ❤ Well thank you so much for these videos and your wonderful recipes I have plans to get a copy of your cookbooks but it's going to be a while. I would rather read a cookbook than read a novel... And my favorite cookbooks are the ones that come from churches.

My mother always tried to make extra mashed potatoes so we could have these the next day. We all loved them. I was born in the north from southern parents that came to Detroit to work in the car industry. None of my friends had ever eaten them and they loved them too. I think it’s a southern recipe. My Mom and my paternal Grandmother used to make these often when I was young. With 3 growing boys in the house, we often ate potatoes every way they could be cooked. But whatever the potato dish, Mom always made it so delicious and prepared other great recipes to serve with the potatoes. Try as I may, there are some of her dishes I just can't seem to match in flavor. For example, Mom could walk out into the garden in Summer and come back with a simple bowl of whatever vegetables were ripe. She would clean, peel, and slice them in just the right way for the best texture and size. And the only salad dressing that I knew existed was Italian that she made with a seasoning packet, oil, and vinegar in a shaker bottle. I knew it simply as "dressing". But that simple salad served with Saturday dinner was amazing. And I cannot recreate it no matter how I try. And now that I've enjoyed most every type of salad dressing, my favorite... still basic Italian dressing. Thank you SO MUCH for your inspiring channel!

My mama made potato cakes when I was little. I did not like them. When I grew up, I was at my older sister's house one night at supper and she was cooking. She said "make some potato cakes," and I said "no. I hate them"; she said "use crackers instead of flour." I used Zesta saltine crackers, crushed up fine, and I have loved potato cakes ever since. I do like onions, so I put plenty. The consistency is like what you showed, I just use the crackers instead of the flour. Try that sometime----you might like it. Blessings, y'all! I can remember my late grandmother making those for me. My cousin would make a similar type using instant potatoes. I never knew just how she make them, just that they was delicious.

Being a Tn girl I've ate "tater cakes" all of my life, always using leftover m.potatoes but I found myself with some leftover instant idahoan brand garlic mashed potatoes and wondered how they'd taste fried....my word 😂 Believe me when I say they are AMAZING and cheap at a dollar a pack. Just thought I'd share an easy way to have a good tater cake using instant(add onion,egg,flour) Thanks for sharing!

Meme I am so sorry I didn’t get to meet you - it’s quite a distance but maybe another time BUT I am sending you my hug instead! I was doubled over with excitement to see your potato pancake!
