I liked that you picked up on Teddy repeatedly trying to get the Jaguar away from Leonard. Most people don't realize on their first watch that Teddy's only goal in the movie is to get the car from him because he wants the $200,000 in the trunk (the money Jimmy brought to the drug deal). Teddy offers to take the car to get the window fixed, he offers to drive, he asked Leonard for the keys, etc. Because he knows that if he gets the car away from Leonard for a few minutes he'll forget about it - then he can get the money out of it.

Lenny is the biggest piece of crap in this movie. Followed by Teddy. Dude’s a serial killer, who chose to carry on with his mission, while Teddy’s there using him to murder and rip off drug dealers. Natalie was just smart, used Leonard to protect her from Dodd and to avenge Jimmie. Even though she knew Leonard likely killed Jimmie, she spared him, because she knew Teddy set Jimmie up.

I hope the next Nolan film about Oppenheimer leans into the smaller scale like Memento. It'd be interesting to see him tackle a personal story rather than just technical razzle dazzle. Think Tenet was his worst narrative feature despite the interesting concept. Be nice if he'd return to his indie roots. Something more intimate.

Smaller scale Nolan would be good to see again

This! Yes Tenett was very very bad. Rushed and I hate to sound racist because I'm not but the protagonist was a miscast. Also, so was the entire cast tbh. This movie was very rushed. I was very disappointed

The prestige, memento, inception, and the dark knight. These are his best films. If I gave him a number five insomnia. He needs to stick to these style of movies but he feels like he may have hit every common level. Mental heath issues, dream layers, magic. The guy is running out of material. Inception is his best film hands down

In case you are reading this a year later, have you seen Oppenheimer and what did you think about it? I did and I really liked it. Not Nolans best, but very well done nonetheless. And very character driven!

I always recommend a very quick re-watch, including an immediate one. The film's construction is so complex that immediate rewatchings displays that clearly.

Subtle subtext to how well Teddy knew Lenny, at the end he knew without a doubt Lenny wouldn't kill him. The only thing he'll kill for is his wife. "you're not a killer, that's why you're so good at it"

Is Natalie a horrible person? Let's look at the film from her perspective. She has a boyfriend, Jimmy, who is a drug dealer. Jimmy goes to meet someone named Teddy for a drug deal and never comes back. Then Leonard shows up at her bar driving Jimmy's car and wearing Jimmy's clothes. She knows that Jimmy is dead and this guy killed him. But Leonard tells her about his condition and she doesn't believe him - she thinks he's lying to try to fool her, which is why she tests him by spitting in the drink and serving it to him. Once he drinks it she realizes that his condition is real (which is why she takes the drink away from him) and that she can use this to get revenge on the other killer of her boyfriend - Teddy. She gives him enough information to convince him that Teddy killed his wife because she wants to trick one of Jimmy's killers into killing the other one. Natalie is horrible to Leonard in this movie, but she is completely justified in what she does. She is getting revenge on the men that killed her boyfriend.

Despite Inception usually getting the highest praise (mostly because it was a blockbuster with stunning visuals starring Leonardo di Caprio), I personally much prefer Memento (it's actually my favorite movie of all time) simply because how gracefully understated everything is and how entirely thought-out every thought, action and emotion of each character is. There isn't a single lapse in logic anywhere in this movie, probably because the Nolan brothers talked about it constantly over the course of a long roadtrip they took together.

Sammy Jenkis sitting in the hospital and a sanitar walking in front of him - after the sanitar walks past it's Lenny in the place of Sammy - so the Sammy condition was actually Lenny's

But Sammy did exist and had this condition. Or at least he appeared to. When Teddy talks about Sammy at the "end" of the movie he doesn't say "There is no Sammy" or "Sammy doesn't exist". He says that Sammy didn't have a wife, and that Sammy was a faker, a con man. So there was a Sammy that had this condition (or at least pretended to for the insurance money). Leonard just created a wife for Sammy and transferred the story of his wife onto her.

Memento/Insomnia/Batman Begins is prime Nolan for me - when he focussed on intimate character studies before he gets a bit too big and consumed by moving his actors around like chess pieces.

Sammy is Leonard. The beginning explains 90 percent of the film. Also I have debunked inception ring theory. It's actually Saito dream and subconscious You should give that a couple of watches and look for that ring you'll see it. Nolan never truly reveals the truths to him movies
