tbh, whether you like it or not, they're pretty clearly soulmates. Jim would seem to agree, given how many times in the movies he refers to Spock as his other/nobler half, describes Spock's soul as being his responsibility, etc. whether you regard their relationship as romantic or platonic, you can never take away the intensity and importance of what they are to each other, a relationship unmatched by anything else in either of their lives. (personally, I ship them, but it really doesn't change much whether you do or not.)

Gene Rodenberry himself stated that Kirk and Spock were soulmates. In fact, he even said that if it were possible for the time they could have had a physical relationship. The actors have also mentioned multiple times how Kirk and Spock seemed to have a romantic relationship. It's perfectly fine if you want to call your friend the Kirk to your Spock without inferring you two are intimate, however you don't have to erase Kirk and Spock's rather valid romance to do it.

@@tomf3150 In the End its only up to Gene Roddenberry what he in intended or thought of Spock and Kirk's Relationship to be. It's clear that you won't find any clear statement or confirmation in any of the Books or else where, because CBS would immediately block that, just like in the 60s. The first Star Trek TOS Film, the Book, Gene Roddenberrys Statement in 1978, and the comparing of Kirk and Spock Relationship being similar with Alexander and Hephaistions, is far more, than you could expect at that Time. I'm just reminding of Th'y'la. Gene Roddenberrys own invented Vulcan Word, which can also mean Lover. So we can clearly see, that he wasn't bothered with what you want to call them, and left any possibilities open.

Let's NOT imagine what was NEVER depicted. Why isn't it enough that they were like brothers whose fates were irrevocably bound together. Kirk says that as long as Spock is with him, could not die. And indeed, in Generations, there was no Spock there to save Kirk.

There are some iconic male/male fan pairings through history. Kirk/Spock is one of the most iconic. Sherlock Holmes/John Watson is another one. Both these pairings share a deep intimate connection - they are both closer to each other than to anyone else. There doesn't have to be a sexual implication because that's largely irrelevant. They can all be celibate for all we care - as long as they're together. That's the true romance "fangirls" are after.

Not all male best friends in films have huge fanbases that want them to be a couple. In Star Trek KirkxBones is seen as a platonic bromance pairing by most people. Same with HarryxRon from Harry Potter, BrucexTony from the Avengers, HanxLuke from Star Wars, etc. Point being that people don't see the potential for deeper relationships in ALL male TV friendships. Dislike it all you want but the Kirk/Spock fanbase exists for a reason.

From a Vulcan point o view, what happens at 4:04 is the equivalent of a kiss through the glass, right?
@ismata32744 жыл бұрын
they are trying to touch full palm to full palm here. as far as i know, spocks parents were kissing by touching the tips of their 2nd and 3rd fingers. and spocks family s adopted daughter saavik sort of french kissed him when his body was so rapidly regrowing from a baby to an adult that he had to go trough ponfarr again, and there was only her and kirks son there so she had to "sate the fires" as it were to save his life, by touching his hands backside by again the tips of her two fingers.... so i have no idea what this two are doing here. i would like to know if spock or any other vulcan was ever portrayed in a scene full palm touching. maybe there is and i dont know. but that would make spocks parents s touching not a kiss but a peck at the cheek or forehead. and saaviks kiss (a ponfarr kiss mind you) is a kiss on the lips. and that still would make this a heavy petting.
@professionalnerd40554 жыл бұрын
@LueMeldane Yes. In one episode of the series Spock has to seduce a Romulan commander, and they kiss by doing exactly that.

@@ismata3274 Yeah, Kirk and Spock have the most intimate moments from how they hold hands. I don’t know if they did it intentionally or if they just forgot that Vulcans kiss with their hands or if holding hands like this means something else??
@aford94702 жыл бұрын
In The Voyage Home, Spock and Sybok lightly press their hands together in a ta'al shape near the end of the movie. With Spock and the Romulan commander, they also have their hands together in the ta'al shape, but they rub their hands together for an extended amount of time. And Sarek and Amanda pressed their fore and middle fingers to the other's to express affection and the nature of their relationship. So, I assume the ta'al rubbing is like making out, pressing the ta'al briefly to someone else's is like a farewell hug for family members, and touching the fore and middle fingers to someone else's is like a chaste kiss on the lips. So, at 4:04 it could have been a kiss or what Spock did with Sybok. But when Jim surrounds Spock's hand with both of his hands, I have to assume that that is the Vulcan equivalent of, like, passionate French kissing; or at least something very intimate.

This made Saul ridiculously paranoid, and he started trying to kill David. However Jonathan was very close to David and he helped him escape Saul. David's relationship with Jonathan could be interpreted as homoerotic. When Jonathan was killed, David actually stated that his love was more pleasurable than that of a woman.

I believe that, after his experiences Spock had made during the Kolinahr on Vulcan, to erase his Human Side, he finally learned through his Mind Meld with V'Ger, how cold and lonely, an Existence without Feelings, especially Love would be. I'm highlighting the Word "Love" here in particularly, because we can see, how V'Ger, learns through the Couple Decker and Ilia, what it was actually missing the whole Time, and why both of them, complete V'Ger towards the End of the Film. In my honest Opinion, the Parallels between Ilia /Decker and Kirk/Spock, lead to the Conclusion, that they are mirroring K/S, to reveal something about them. If it would have been simply Friendship, Spock could have said it without hesitation. And the Fact, that The Motion Picture, was also the last Film Roddenberry was totally in Control of mostly, should say enough. Also, even though Books supposedly aren't Canon, the T'hyla Word, only appeared in the Book of this Film, written by Gene Roddenberry. ❤

I mean, he comes aboard, doesn't say a word of greeting, and looks like there's nothing there, not friendship or anything. Even to a total stranger as Captain, this behavior would have been odd, bordering on rude. Jim stares and goes 'Spock.... Spock!' and Spock acts as if he wasn't even there, until he has to acknowledge him to talk about this communication with star fleet. What's going on there?

It's a "continuation" of when he was on Vulcan for the Kolinahr and almost got the symbol of logic. After arriving on Enterprise he explains he felt a powerful consciousness back on Vulcan (V'Ger). And it becomes full why he was like that when he feels sorry for V'ger and says " I weep for V’Ger, as I would for a brother. As I was when I came aboard, so is V’Ger now, empty, incomplete… searching. Logic and knowledge are not enough." (About life).

@@LiunaTiger first of all, thanks for your reply :) But secondly, okay, I know the plot. But to me, it doesn't explain why he doesn't even greet him or something. I mean, at the very least, Kirk is the Captain of the ship that's taking him where he needs to be. And it's trying to get his attention. Vulcans may be unemotional, but I never saw Spock neglecting at least polite formalities before in TOS. I got the impression that they had a fight in the time between TOS and TMP.

I like Kirk and all, but I don't understand why he never learned the Vulcan salute. It doesn't require much effort to perfect; I mean I've been able to do it since I was four, and I've only been a trekkie since I was 12.

Yeah because acknowledging that same-sex attraction exists is evil right? Um...no. We have a larger view of the world here in 2013. Perhaps you could join us.
