@Charles Ross William Shatner is known to be a tease and, on the set of TOS, was continually clowning around and trying to make the cast and crew laugh. He is, however, a superb actor. He can say anything with his face and his voice is always pitch-perfect. That comes from his classical training. He was with a Shakespearean repertory company as a young actor. James Kirk probably left a string of half-human children across the Alpha Quadrant. It would be a great idea for a spin-off series if they were to seek one another out and band together: Star Trek: The Progeny But I wouldn't want it produced by the sadistic vermin who are producing JunkTrek at the moment. In that scene, Spock catches and briefly holds Kirk’s hand before it can slap him again, and afterward, he seemed to gain back his mental stability. Vulcans are touch telepaths, so my theory is in that moment, Kirk and Spock’s minds touched and Spock gained some mental stability back. UwU LoGiC

I've actually never understood, why he said, that he is ashamed of feeling friendship for Kirk. Does he mean the Feeling in general, or the Fact that Jim is his Friend? Are Vulcans not allowed to have Friends? In the "Pon Farr" Episode, he talked about, that close Friends, are allowed to escort the Participant to the Ceremony. So that doesn't make sense to me. But especially for the T'hyla Bit, I agree with you. It fits pretty good, especially in the Med Bay Scene of TMP, the "simple Feeling" Spock talkes about, is nothing else than Love in my honest opinion. Especially because, we later see that VGer, is interested in the Motivations of the Love Couple, it later joins with, to terminally complete itself.

6:15 after Kirk slightly reprimands Spock and insists that the creature be killed, he suggests Spock go help Scotty instead of searching for the creature. Spock argues this but notice the change in his voice and the slight stammer. He's scared. He's scared Kirk is angry with him for countering his orders regarding killing the creature and wants to send him away. Spock cares so much for Jim and his friendship that the idea that this could harm their relationship is scary to him. When Kirk clarifies that he wants Spock away for his safety you can note the immediate change in his voice, it sounds more normal even as he argues to stay, going back to calculating probabilities again. If you go on archive of our own and type James T. Kirk/Spock into the search bar and go to the very bottom of the very last page there are salvaged fics uploaded from old fanzines from the early to late 70's depicting these to in a romantic relationship, people definitely noticed the subtext.

*SPOILERS* Bro in Into Darkness Spock literally goes bat crazy after Kirk dies. He’s so enraged at Khan he literally would have killed a man who has freaking regenerative blood. The only reason Khan didn’t die was that Uhura said they needed him to save Kirk. If that doesn’t show a lot about their relationship, idk what does. Even the fact that during that movie their relationship is still kinda new, but Spock still went that crazy, is extremely telling.
@QuarterLifeCrises3 жыл бұрын
@@rachelfarmer3722 I think the op is talking about the chemistry between the actors/characters, which doesn't need a history between them. There are fewer dramatic moments in TOS but it still made people ship them so hard just based on the chemistry, their banter, etc. The new movies might make a point to write about the friendship between Kirk and Spock but it does lack a certain spark. For example, in the new movies Kirk and Pike have good chemistry. Their father-son relationship comes through very well without the need to verbalize it and you believe it even before you see Kirk grieve for Pike. McCoy and Kirk's chemistry is also good. The chemistry in the new movies isn't bad, just a bit lacking compared to TOS. Say TOS didn't exist and the new movies stood on their own and the names Kirk and Spock didn't mean anything, then you wouldn't really see epic ship worthy material in them. The new movies were my introduction to Star Trek and I didn't get why people shipped K/S so hard. Then I watched TOS and understood.

@Charles Ross I've kept quiet until now, but I just have to say something. For one thing, Kirk/Spock is canon. Literally, it is. Gene Roddenberry said himself "Oh, yes. As I've said, I definitely designed it as a love relationship. I think that's what we're all about -- love, the effort to reach out to each other." That's a quote from Gene himself. If you still don't believe me, here's more of the same, again straight from Roddenberry: "Yes, there’s certainly some of that-certainly with love overtones. Deep love. The only difference being, the Greek ideal-we never suggested in the series-physical love between the two. But it’s the-we certainly had the feeling that the affection was sufficient for that, if that were the particular style of the 23rd century." There you go. Gene said it himself: their bond was sufficient for physical love. They love each other; it's a canon fact.

@Charles Ross I think it's sad that you think romantic love is perverted. There is no difference between gay love and straight love. There is no reason why two people loving each other should be considered wrong. Also, talking down to people simply because they are younger than you is ridiculous. Young people have always been the forces of change in our society. Stop living in the past.
@professionalnerd40554 жыл бұрын
@Charles Ross I would, in fact, talk to my parents this way, especially if they did something as disgusting as what you are doing. Discriminating against a whole group of people based solely on who they choose to love is horrible. I am simply standing up for human rights. And I have no proof that there even is a god, but if god exists I should hope they wouldn't be so cruel as to deny someone the right to love who they choose. I don't care if two man can't make a baby, they can still love each other deeply. Same goes for two women. Same goes for two nonbinary people. Any consenting adults who are in love with each should have the the right to that love.

@@domainofthesun4400 Sure, that's why he stayed in the door, watching how passionately Jim kissed this Egyptian Lady, who poisoned him with her Tears. 🙄It's always Fun to read, how haters try to justify their homophobic opinions even in the 21th Century , when even the creator of the series, had no problem with Kirk and Spock being Lovers in the 1960s, where homosexuality was seen as criminal act. Nobody is forcing you to inherent the opinion of other people. If Kirk already knew at that time, that Edith had to die, why intense their relationship then with a kiss? And Eavesdropping is not starring at someone or watching them. To me, that is standing behind a closed door, listening to their conversation.
@QuarterLifeCrises3 жыл бұрын
@@KreativeSpinnerin they only disagreed that the Edith Keeler scene is one of the most telling on the show (not even that there aren't romantic K/S undertones). There's no need to call them homophobic over that. There seems to be a raising trend that not shipping something is homophobia these days, which is actually quite a problematic thing to suggest in itself. As for the Edith Keeler scene, Spock was worried about how Jim was getting too attached to a woman they might have to kill/let die (different than a person who'll die). As for Elaan Of Troyius, both Bones and Spock watch them. Maybe the people who made the show were accepting of fan interpretation of a romantic relationship between Spock and Kirk, but they intended to create a friendship. A brothers in arms kind of relationship. If people want to see only that or engage in polite discussion about how certain scenes can be interpreted (without disparaging shippers of course) then there's nothing wrong with it. (This is not to say I don't ship them. I definitely do, especially in TOS.)
