Nothing like posting on a 3 year old video, but it came up in my auto play while listening and doing work. Just want to say, this is the video that really made me decide to go super recycler over Honda. I watched the other review videos too, but when upgrading from my cheap craftsman, clumping was my number one concern. So thank you, I have been enjoying the mow with the Toro for two years now.

I have a HRC216 mower and I noticed that the new blades weren’t sharp, kinda dull, and had a coating of paint on top of that. I decided to check my new blades on my new Honda mower because it seemed like my St Augustine blades were being ripped (rough cut at the tip). After sharpening both blades by hand & file, I got better results with mulching and clean cut. I know I have spent too much on my mower, but im just a beginner lawn care nut, inspired mainly by your videos. Thanks for all your tips - I love watching your videos!

I learn something new from just about every video, podcast and email that you do (and I've been watching for years). This time it was the spreader-to-spreader variability in our equipment. Great point -- even though I too have the standard Scotts Turfbuilder Edgeguard DLX unit, mine may be calibrated a bit differently, has been subjected to different abuse than yours, and may be slightly more or less open than yours (or the "standard" used to set bag guidance) at a given setting number. So, as you have said many times, we each need to measure carefully the amount of each product that we actually apply at any given setting (e.g., Milo at a setting of "10") to determine exactly what combination of MY walking and MY spreader gives the application rate (pounds on the ground) I am seeking. Thanks, Al.

I also have a Honda HRX and it does clump some when the grass is a little overgrown. I find that I have to go at a very slow speed and the clumping isn't as bad. The blades cut well but don't do as well at a little faster walking speed. If I want to mow fast, then I have to do a double pass in another direction to get rid of the clumps.

I love my honda (HRX 217), but I've also always had trouble with clumping on my Meyer Zoysia lawn if I let it grow for a week or more before a cut (I try to cut it twice a week during the summer). I have the checkmate striper on it, so what I usually do is cut it once to height, then raise the deck one notch and go over it again to break up any clumps (and add intensity to those stripes). Zoysia is just super-thick grass.
