Same. They gave me soooo much stuff when I left. Also loved buying out the stores when they were closing. So much cheap stuff. I bought boxes of their movie candy for like $5. By boxes, I mean the entire box the candy comes in, so like 20 bags. DVDs and Blurays for like $3, and strips of teh store for whatever reason. Hated working there. Was robbed there once less than a month after my little sister passed away. My companies idea of making it better was trying to move me to a store location in the ghetto that's robbed like 6 times a year. I refused to do that, so they forged my 2-weeks notice and submitted it to corporate. Hated the company, but loved the people I worked with (Except the assistant manager. That guy was a douche who was sleeping with the DM. Got fired and rehired twice for giving the safe combo to other employees, who then stole the money, lol)

My town still has two video stores, and the they still have a lot of customers. Granted i live in the middle of know where. I guess it's cheaper to rent the movie here in town instead of driving 20-30 to one of the next towns over. We also still have a drive in movie theater and 2 drive in restaurants. It's like my town is stuck in another era.

I have alot of nostalgia for things of the mid 1990s-early 2000s. Blockbuster was a fun place to go. I rented a video game from there. However, that is one thing I gave little notice when it shut down.

Damn... I actually feel like crying now... Blockbuster is actually how me and my stepfather grew closer when he first started dating my mother. He LOVES movies, and everyday Friday like clockwork he would take us and he would tell me I could check out any movie, and I remember the check out counter too!!! Wanting ALL the candy but being told you could only take one, aah, good times, good times. P.S that was also us when we returned them, you think we would learn that we had to do it on time pero noo, tarde como siempre

Back in the mid to late 90s, Blockbuster was too expensive for my parents and we'd actually go to the local Mom & Pops video store to rent our movies. Fun times because a Chinese restaurant was right next to it so a trip to the video store meant getting chow mein and orange chicken to eat whilst enjoying the movie in our living room. My gay ass rented out "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything - Julie Newmar" one too many times and to this day I can recite most of the dialogue of the movie, especially Chi Chi Rodriguez lol 😂

I miss Blockbuster so much! My Dad and I or my brothers and I would drive 20 to 25 minutes to the nearest store, talk and listen to music along the way. I remember walking around the store and feeling like the movie choice was life or death, too. Then getting popcorn and other snacks at the register! Driving back home before going home and putting the movie on. The physical act of doing that and having to do out to do it required at least some energy and thought. It was probably the one place I was frequently allowed to be out late as a child and pre-teen. There is always the anticipation before you get home to your movie!

Oooh Yenny, Over here we didn't have a blockbuster, but we did have another chain, but that's not what i really was about. There was 1 mom and pop video store, run by 1 dude, 'Henk' smelled like sigarettes.. rented every weekend a video. if it wasen't Lucky Seven, it was commando.. but one night my parents whent on a date or whatever and i could choose 1 movie to watch for that evening when the babysitter came over (i was around 8 or something) i thought that cover of that robocop movie looked swell.. and man,o man, what a ride that flick was when i got to see it.. such fond memories to this day that movie is in my top 5 and has a special place in my heart because of that memory alone! good times.

Thank you, Jenny! Great vid. I was at that blockbuster a lot. I would often just wander the aisles looking at every title. I checked out a lot of weird Japanese horror there too. They had some...interesting selections. And the Toys R Us and the jewelry shop in that plaza there were regular hits for me too. And Lila's across the street! Did you ever eat there? That place was a gem.

I remember having my parents drive me there everyday so I could check whether the one copy of Dragonball GT Final Bout on the PS1 was in (this was years before the re-release so it was extremely rare then, and the only DB game in America at the time). I loved Homeward Bound.... but my all time favourite, rented way too many times, was Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's "It Takes Two"... watched it while recovering from a broken arm. That and a bag of Doritos was my childhood heaven. =) Your videos are so awesome! I'm not Latin American, but as a child of Eastern European immigrants I can relate to so much of what you say. Also I've acquired Spanish as a second language later in life so I can laugh at the Spanish parts too! Keep up the awesomeness!

Aside from missing Blockbuster, I miss Bawls (I see that iconic blue bottle yonder there!). *sigh* Memories. And speaking of memories, I recall oggling at the comedies and animation movies at Blockbuster. It used to annoy Dad to death that it'd take so damn long for me to decide what movie I want to see. Another memory, albeit this one's shorter, was every time it's Friday, Dad and I would go to Blockbuster before picking pizza up at Little Caesar's. That was our movie night.

When I was 10, the local Blockbuster in Cooper city started offering this service where they would make a tape of your kid. Since my uncle worked there my mom took me to get one. Where I'm from here in Australia we had a blockbuster, but no one went there because there was a better shop called Civic Video, I could still relate to all your stories though

When I was kid we didn't go to Blockbuster or Hollywood Video. We did have memberships to them but we went to the mom and pop movie rental stores. It was cheaper and you had the movie longer because you know you need 5 days to watch one movie. It was those stores where you would eventually get your bootleg dvd's when that started to become a thing. Nothing beats getting to watch Titanic on VHS it was long it had to tapes. Now I just get my bootleg DVDs from this guy who sits in front of Publix. Lol.
