I can't tell you (well no, I CAN tell you) what a masterpiece this was. You definitely put a lot of work into this and it shows. All the back and forth between both sides with the unpredictability of which side will prevail, the narrations (because it's also good to tell and not just show what is happening), and just the way the battle played out. It's amazing, and anything with LOTR is an immediate stop and watch. I would upvote you more than once if that was possible, but this definitely deserves all the views

The Calvary maneuver that bottled up the Uruks at the end could've been a very dangerous mistake had the Uruks not had a path to run. It's not taken into account well in Total War if I recall, but pinning an enemy to the point of no return, where they cannot run, can actually cause them to fight with such zeal that they become frenzied. Cornering an enemy and leaving them with nothing left to lose is often a risk not worth taking and when I saw the trap that was being setup, I personally felt like Théoden was close to causing a potential upset. Fighting Uruks who feel that they have no where left to go except to take as many of the Men with them as they can before they die could've lead to a lot more casualties at the end than would be warranted. It's a good thing a path of retreat was kept loosely available to prevent any further losses when ever Victory was obvious.

Read the eye-witness summary from a villager of Dunharrow. (fan-fic, not canon) "It had been some years since the fall of the Dark Lord of Mordor. Beyond expectation had the united forces of Rohan and Gondor faced and defeated his armies at his own Black Gate. Legend has it that his One Ring, of which we can now speak freely, was destroyed in Mount Doom itself. How this was possible, I cannot fathom. But we knew when King Theoden returned that victory was ours! Many days and nights of celebrations we had, and our people have grown, recovering from the War of the Ring. But now, when bliss seemed to rise like spring after winter, we face a new storm. Isengard, once a beautiful fortified garden with Orthanc - a majestic tower made by our Numenorean ancestors - has now become an infestation of foul craft and Orc brood. Word has reached us of a massive army of new Orcs, these Uruk-Hai, marching on our people. And so I write here, on the hill of Dunharrow. And below me, I see a gathering such as I never thought I'd see. Our king with a thousand riders, battle-hardened veterans from the battle of Pelennor Fields and the Black Gate; and from the far North-East, Dale. They who have withstood Sauron's northern armies of Orcs and Easterlings, now come to our aid with what they can spare. I trust they too have battle-hardened men among them. If the Easterlings were any as cruel as I've heard, they must be strong troops indeed. Stories born by merchants and traders tell of their archers' finesse. A most welcoming addition to our cause. But then, I behold that banner of black and the white tree...Gondor, kingdom of our forefathers, our oldest ally, has come! With thousands of spears and swords! And armour they bear, such as I have never seen before, shining brightly in the sun like polished silver. From what I know of military tactics, these allies will no doubt form our backbone against Isengard's army now marching towards us. And yet, dare I say I feel concern? Will our six-thousand stand against tens of thousands? As I look on, the sun-lit country side is darkened by a tidal wave of black. The banner of Isengard its only white mark. Such a mass of filth. Their spears are like a forest, and even here I can hear their heavy feet marching. Our King rides on top of the hill. Perhaps to observe better what can be done. I praise the courage of those below... I see the Uruks engage, and yet our King watches on. Is he waiting for something I fail to see? Well, I see the skirmishes unfold. Clouds of arrows reply to clouds of arrows. Some seem to hit their marks, but the shields of Gondor are sturdy. The Uruk mass is so dark, it's hard to tell which fall to arrows. But their foul screams tell me our arrows hit them well. But the darts of Isengard know how to sting. I see Dale struggling to hold. I worry at how thin their line is getting. If the Uruks mass on there, I fear they won't hold the flank... I'm somewhat relieved to see the line holding, but Isengard is now sending in its pikes. And long they are! A good thing Gondor brought us its armour and shield. But now I see why King Theoden waited. Not all of the Uruks have advanced. To my dread, I see only one arm of their might has attacked. Another is left in their rear, and even I know that trying to attack with our cavalry now would be perilous. Oh I hope our allies below hold out. At least Rhovanion archers know how to cover them, for now... 13:29 Mercy on us! I see a fast group of Uruks having found a place to flank us! It sure is a good thing the Gondorian Captains know their tactics. And we still have the advantage of the high ground of Dunharrow. But oh my, that second host of Uruks is just standing there, fresh. We will be facing them bruised and battered... 15:00 As I report, I see pockets of Dalemen crumbling under the pressure. Whatever our King is planning, I pray he acts soon. I hate to report that I see the second Uruk host advancing whilst our own forces struggle to maintain cohesion. Then I hear the horns blow. A call to retreat. Perhaps a wise choice. Hopefully we can regroup somewhere better! I see our forces scramble uphill, whilst our archers pick the Uruks as they funnel onto the narrow road. And our King is moving. I hear word that he's going for a decisive flanking manoeuvre through a secret route I may not describe here. 19:00 Wearied though they are, I see Gondor march to plug the Uruk's advance on the slope. A sound tactic, but will they be enough? There's yet thousands below. 20:00 Our cavalry crashes against what appears to be lighter forces. A good step, but not victory quite yet as I see Gondor struggle to hold against those accursed pikes! The fight is so intense, it makes me want to pick up a sword and join lest our cause is lost. But I am but a humble villager's scribe. 21:27 Down below I see our cavalry gaining success! Marvelous sight truly, to see those foul beasts crushed beneath the hooves our horses! Charge after charge routs more Uruks. Is this then the turn of the tide? Then with great joy I see the Uruks below in full route, and the Uruks on the slopes, seeing their filthy allies fall, are losing morale. The battle is ours! Only now I realize it is sunset. A whole day our men stood against the pressing forces of Isengard. But we are triumphant. Hail the Men of Dale! Hail our brothers of Gondor! Hail our Riders and King Theoden! May this eye-witness serve as encouragement to all men throughout the land. Signed, Blēostán of Dunharrow.
