I just discovered Martin's show a couple of years ago, it's class comedy indeed. Just for all the hilarious characters Martin plays alone, makes it essential viewing. Sheneneh, Dragonfly, Jerome, etc, he's talented as hell! ❤

FYI, whenever they refer to anything that is fish. It’s referring to women. In the gay community, especially the black gay community, they always refer to anything fishy as female and beef as mail. That’s why, when they are on vacation, they say, not you fish you go back in the sea. Or in the cooking segment when they talk about red snapper. I didn’t know this as a kid, but I found out later.

HA! I kinda figured, but didn't realize it was an actual term that the gay community actually used/uses (so thank you for clarifying) This show is the best and takes me back to a time when it seemed like the general public kinda had the same acceptance towards anything that could be poked fun at in a comedic way. Nowadays, something like this wouldn't even make it onto the idea board in the writers room 🤦‍♂️

I picked that up very early on, that they were referring to women as "fish", but that's because I've heard it being used in British comedy, though I can't recall exactly where. One aspect of gay lingo I only just figured out though, is that "chicken" is a term gay men use for other gay men. I was perplexed by that for a long time!

These get better and better as they go along. Handi-Man is also terrific from this show. While gay kids were getting representation on TV from this and the Tracey Ullman Show, I got Handi-Man. As a disabled kid, he was my hero. Speaking of Tracey Ullman, check out her classic "Francesca: A Girl's Life." Tracey was in her late 20s at this point, playing a 14 year old girl with 2 dads. Absolutely groundbreaking and full of social commentary, but also hilarious. The guy who did the voice of Homer Simpson played one of the dads. Actually, that's how the Simpsons got started - they were a short on The Tracey Ullman Show. They had serious edge back then.
