Thanks a lot for your review. A neurofeedback researcher that I worked with a bit said that research shows that for many purposes neurofeedback actually works *best* when it is boring, because that trains the brain to get into a new state in everyday life, but if the neurofeedback itself is interesting (such as watching a video that you are interested in), then the brain change results from the interesting stimulus and not from the brain learning a new state. Especially for something like anxiety, and maybe less so for ADHD.

Thank you for the review, it sounded very fair and balanced. I'm looking into buying a neurofeedback device and I'm undecided if it will be the Mendi. All those devices have their pros and cons. I've seen some that offer an API, so as a programmer I might be able to add some more games. It's definitely cool technology and it's exciting to learn more about it.

@@feelbetterliving My first reaction when using it was "this is pretty awesome" the idea of moving the ball with my brain and focused attention ( i.e. more blood flow to the PFC ) was very interesting to see it work, with enough practice overtime, it makes sense that by flexing this area of your brain ( like you would at the gym or when meditating ) you can learn to increase the blood flow naturally without needing the Mendi and get into better states of focus and reap similar benefits you would get from normal mindfulness meditation, again still early days to be honest, but I have seen my score improve overtime since I got the Mendi which indicates its showing some signs of improvement, this is the great thing about neurofeedback and seeing the scientific results in real time so you can visually see the improvements vs the good old meditation whereas its more of a feeling based improvement.

I'd be curious to see you try theemdi while journaling but checking the app as you journaled. The game is supposed to supply the nfb, as in, you get a dopamine boost from seeing the stars and ball move up. I think the trick is to kind of feel excited about it. The dopamine hit will help train your brain. I order one recently. Hoping for some positive outcome. Great review.

Y'all are awesome. I had asked about the review of it :). I bought one too for a very atypical reason which was I was harmed by professional neurofeedback making my condition worse and trying to fix it. Every personal neurofeedback/vagus nerve device I tried has backfired (causes very extreme increases in muscle tension and sympathetic reactions) since then including this and about to send it back. Nobody should be scared away from buying this because of my comment though because obviously not having a typical results something is really screwy with my nervous system causing all this to happen. I can confirm they do indeed honor their money back policy in allowing me to return it.

@@feelbetterliving I tried professional neurofeedback for CPTSD, and it just messed up my nervous system. Thought it was worth a unlikely shot the Mendi and other gadgets might undo some of the harm, but nope thankfully I only bought devices with money back policies and they all honored them. The best I've been able to do is just take extremely good care of myself and my limitations and watch what things have negative and positive effects to my functioning and hope that will over time be a real life lived neurofeedback. I'm stuck in really bad muscle tension and activation patterns from the neurofeedback that made my previous issues look small in comparison.

@@radfaraf I just finished the audiobook for "The Body Keeps the Score" and it goes through many different treatments (clinical and "alternative"). Nice review. Agree with your points - as a noob developer, I can say that development of games based on mendi data input should be pretty easy and cheap so I don't understand why they do not do that. Even adding a simple math game in which you have to answer - and after 3 minutes tells you how was your "focus" timeline and how that compared to your game score - to then see how the data compare in the long time.

@@petekkrishnansan it's a shit app and device, I wouldn't buy it. I had the othet big competitor one, forgot its name now, it was much better but so easy to break. Mendi instead is shit, I wouldn't buy it. Unfortunately I did and after using it a couple of weeks, I understood it doesn't really work. Meaning - the data it register, is not about you being focused or meditating, but other things. So people improve by learning to do what the app measures, which is not focus/presence/awareness/meditation.

I have a Mendi, and really actually like using it. The simplicity is what attracts me to it. I disagree, that more games is better, for me it's stressful and unnecessary, I would like to make it as "boring" as possible as I find it shooting and easy to use. Not everyone is the same, maybe people on more autistic spectrum like ASP would disagree. But I see what you are saying

I’ve been suggesting all the same things since it came out. At this point I think it is what it is. The company has never even given feedback to any suggestions as if they were even thinking about improving. What is wrong with just sitting meditation? Why does one need to be hooked up with wireless straps wrapped around their head? It is expensive and like a cell phone these things fail sometimes. Did you get any butt calls? Did the ringer turn off? How is tech support? Can you talk to a live person when things don't work? Do you need a monthly subscription? Really, all of the things these devices advertise is available for free with seated meditation. Forget this stuff. We are all tied to our phones and are made dependent on them.

Well - neurofeedback. - this is used for training focus. Having a tool that gives you real time feedback of how you are doing is infinetely helpful. It's like having a coach telling you, this is correct, this is not correct - so you get real time feedback and correct and make faster progress. Progress here I mean is ability to focus and keep that focus strong for a long time. Well the idea is amazing - if Mendi actually does that perfectly or not - let's see. I just got mine 5 days ago and my results, at least on the app, are getting better and better.

As someone who has a complex ptsd diagnosis, sitting meditation can be extremely difficult. I’m researching based on what I read in “The Body Keeps the Score”. I’m hoping that a device like this that provides a visual could help focus, so that I can one day effectively sit and meditate.

@@feelbetterliving I have looked into it, and there are some providers nearby. I’m currently in trauma informed therapy, but it was hindered by a toxic relationship. I’d go there every week for the past 2 years triggered and couldn’t dive into EMDR. I filed divorce in February and I’m now able to start processing. I was able to find a muse on marketplace this week, so I tried that as well. I couldn’t score over a 50, but last night I microdosed psilocybin and got over 70🤷🏼‍♂️. I have seen a lot of improvement with microdosing and trauma informed therapy. I’m very hopeful about the EMDR. I will check into the clinical neuro feedback when I’ve exhausted the benefits of EMDR. The most funny thing is that the biggest increases are EXACTLY when you get distracted which is like counter productive 🤣if you want to cheat try polar eye movements with eye catching distractions And most of all beware of youtube scammers that will do and say everything to get paid by one of the device producers.
