Well. Today is 12/31/2016. My menginioma surgery was a success. Surgery lasted about 4 hours. The tumor was completely benigh and they were able to get all of it. I was able to leave the hospital on Tuesday after having surgery on Friday. Thank-you Dr. Munz for doing a great job. THANK YOU LORD JESUS ! ! ! I feel very blessed to have survived 2 of these .

What grade did they give your meningioma? I was told mine was grade 2 A-typical. It has been 3 weeks since surgery. I feel throbbing and pressure ontop of my head where the tumor was. I did not have a shunt placed when i came out of surgery. Should i have had one?

I had a meningioma removed at age 16. By the time it was discovered it was very big and my neurologist said it covered the right side of my brain, I wanted to know which lobes, he told me "the right side.." I was paralyzed to my neck on the left side, but quickly regained most of my movement after surgery and seizures stopped. For those newly diagnosed, I am now 54 with no recurrence, my tumour was removed 38 years ago.. Like we've heard, everyone and every tumour is different. I am checked regularly by my neurologist. Meningioma if you're going to have a brain tumour, is mostly a good one.

Dear Dr. Yang. Very impressing presentation and helpfull to accept the first diagnosis and the possibilities for recovery. Our son had a pineablastoma when he was 12 years old and got radiation therapy. Now he is 44 years old and coincedentally there were found meningiomas caused by the former induced radiation therapy. We know that every tumor is a special case and needs an exclusive treatment. Awesome work you do for your patients.

I discussed my meningioma with a neurologist within my HMO. Mine is behind my left eye. I would love to get a second opinion, but my insurance won't pay for one outside of my HMO. My brother had glioblastoma, and was a patient at UCLA. I understand these are very different. However, I would still appreciate a consult with a surgeon. I wasn't impressed with the neurologist I saw, to be honest. She really didn't listen, and spent the duration of the appointment steering the conversation to her satisfaction, while dismissing any possible symptoms. All that said, I am not confident, I am still concerned, and feel as though I may fall through the cracks.

I have had 3 Maningiomas removed and still have 7! My neurosurgeon said they have a growth spurt after child birth. And each time he has to in to remove them it increases the chance of a stroke. My 1st one was 10cm X 3cm which I had removed. I'm doing well but they are growing each year. This was in 2014. They also said when I reach menopause I have to have special patches minus some hormone

I get MRI scan on head and eye orbits in a few hours. Optometrist found ‘something concerning’ and referred me to eyes hospital and from there, referred for MRI. Can’t see well with right eye. Staggering like a drunk. Amazingly dizzy. Thought I had vertigo. It’s crept in over a couple of years. Looking likely this is what’s been going on.

Two weeks ago I have been diagnosed with a tentorial meningioma. This is located in the cerebellum and touching the tectum and brain stem, these are quite rare and due to location - the posterior fossa is very tight and there is very little leeway, radiotherapy is not an option. On tuesday I am having an 8 hour procedure called Supracerebellar infratentorial approach to tentorial meningioma... thank you for the info, clearly this is going to be my life going forward 🙏

excellent explanation...i underwent a 3 cm. meningioma resection 8 june 2018...operation successfull...but with post-op. complications...intensive care impressions (beeps, peeps, lights and voices) induced an epileptic seizure (grand mal)...the following day back on the ward nursing staff wanted to stimulate my revalidation by bringing me to the shower...but it was too much for me to handle which induced a major stroke which left me right side paralyzed and afatic (couldn't speak) for 3 weeks...i didn't know if i would recover from this but after 3 weeks i found that i could move my thumb a little...but all the while hospital staff was pressuring me to revalidate as quickly as possible...i understand their protocol...but i find this approach detrimental and damaging...after 3 weeks in hospital i was transferred to a nursing home for revalidation...and there they also pressured me to revalidate as quickly as possible...but i actually progressed the most when left alone in my room...took my first baby steps after 2 months by stepping out of bed and holding on to the radiator...alone...in hindsight i now believe that rest and quiet are of utmost importance the first week(s) after brain surgery...and asking the patiënt what his/her wishes are...not to just blindly follow general protocol...the first week after the operation i hardly slept because of the noises (loud voices, bumping medicine carts) in the hall and a nurse coming every 2 hours to check pupil response with a flashlight and vitals check...professional dedicated caregivers...but a hellish experience...today, 15 july 2019, i walk with the aide of a walker (500 m. max.) and cannot carry a conversation for more than 30 minutes...i need to wear sunglasses when walking outside...but i am thankfull for every day that God grants me...and for all the wonderfull people who cared and prayed for me....

Roland I had a meningioma removed in 1995. It was benigh. It was 7.0 cm. It was located on the right frontal lobe. In May of 2016 I was having problems with my right leg. Shooting pains radiating from hip all the way to my foot. I went to see a neurologist. MRI revealed a pinched nerve in the lumbar region of my spine. A neurosurgeon did surgery, put in some rods and screws. There was very little change post op. In an effort to find out what was going on, he sent me to get further MRIs of my lumbar, thoracic, cervical and head. They revealed nothing other than my meningioma had grown back, this time it was 4.8 cm. I will have surgery on Friday 12/23/2016. I'm not sure that the outcome will be the same, I'm 63 this time around. I will leave a comment on how this turns out some time after Christmas. THANKS for the video ! !

I’ve been having, pretty much non-stop migraine (or so I thought) headaches. And my neck has been killing me. For that I just suspected degenerative disc disease. I found out today that I have a small Meningioma. I hope they can do something because these headaches are horrific!! I’ve fought Neuroendocrine Cancer in the past, so my oncologist was concerned about that. Neuroendocrine tumors do release a LOT of hormones & peptides, so I wonder if the Carcinoid Syndrome I have could have caused this?!

In summary, if you've had extensive exposure to dental radiation(i.e. lots of dental x-rays, particularly as a kid) you will be a good candidate to develop this! This is been known for a long time. Acoustic neuromas(also non-hereditary) are caused by dental x-rays as well. It's a no-brainer. No other likely cause!

Is there long term research on the impact of radiation on atypical mengiomas.... will it reduce the likelihood of recurrence, the speed of growth. I am over 60, had a baseball sized Menigioma hacked out, I had a big titanium patch, and the new one is pushing hard on the patch... and pushing my left eye out of the socket. But I had cobalt 60 as a kid, (which I was in stockholm at the time, c. 1970) as it crushed me, and I am not all that excited about doing it again.
