All of the information regarding salaries was taken from glassdoor.com. I'm not sure how accurately the numbers reflect individuals who identify with particular titles. For simplicity, I stuck to the basic job title and did not include variants (e.g. I searched "social worker" but didn't search "licensed clinical social worker"). So job titles like "clinician" show up as lower income because, even though it includes doctors or RNs, no company lists those positions as just "clinician". Anyway, just something to bear in mind as you're watching!

I love how you don’t just talk at the camera. You obviously write a script and plan your shots ahead, but it doesn’t feel so formal. The way you shoot everything is dynamic and conversational as well as informative. Subscribed.

Man, I’ve been there in that intro scene. Back when I was an athletic trainer I got the “so you help people work out?” “No, it’s like a sports medic”. ‘’So you’re a paramedic?” And it keeps going. Great video Micah!

Cool video. You should do a follow-up sometime that covers some of the more applied/ non-clinical titles (eg. Experimental psychologist, human factors psychologist, I/O psychologist, cognitive scientist, neuroscientist, neurologist, neurobiologist).

Thank you very much for aaaaaaall the videos, I had a lot of prejudices (and dogmas provided by the family) about the sciences around the brain, but thanks to a lot of people like you now I'm very fascinated. I don't know what career to choose FIRST, but I'll choose a mental health career at some point of my life.🌺 Love you all!

Hey! Great video. I'm from Argentina and it's true that psychoanalysis is popular here. Particularly, I'm on a mix of cognitive behavioral therapy and psychoanalytic therapy (I've been diagnosed with OCD pure O) and it's working very good on me. I'm so happy I started it!

@@neurotransmissions I have what my psychiatrist calls "mental ruminations". It's like my mind thinks and re-thinks a lot about something, usually exaggerating that specific thought. These intrusive thoughts might appear anytime, sometimes before I started treatment I used to wake up thinking of them, and cause a lot of anxiety and disgust. My mind becomes obsessed with some thought, I try to fight it and then I feel really badly because that takes a lot of mental energy and don't allow me to do my everyday stuff. And they are also like "You will never be happy because any good thing that could happen to you, I'm gonna be there to make you worried and ruin it" (that's how they feel, I don't hear voices haha). They are exhausting and the problem is no matter how unlikely to really happen they could be, I can't get rid of them so easily. Hope you can get an idea of what I'm talking about. They are hard to express, even on my native Spanish.

Excellent video and I recently had this discussion with my daughter as she tries to explain what I do to her teachers and classmates. I sometimes have this issue but most of the time I identify as a Forensic psychotherapist or Clinical psychotherapist because that’s my licensing, training and certification above and beyond my degrees.

What about an Analyst? Short for Jungian Analyst. Not sure how you left that one out. Especially considering they are probably more prevalent then Psychoanalysts in the US.
@neurotransmissions4 жыл бұрын
There are plenty of subcategories of mental health professions, but I kept to common parlance to keep things from becoming bloated. But honestly, I have never heard anyone identify themselves as a Jungian Analyst. I'm not saying it isn't legit, but I'd hardly call it common. Google Trends shows that Psychoanalyst is a far more popular search term than Jungian Analyst. I also ran a search on Indeed.com just to take a gander and there are literally zero jobs listed under the term Jungian Analyst, but many under Psychoanalyst. I think your perspective may be a bit skewed!
@shardy654 жыл бұрын
@@neurotransmissions Well as a counselor you most probably understand the underlying bias that we all bring to understanding and perceiving all things in our lives. So calling my perspective "a bit skewed" is redundant. We are all a bit skewed aren't we. So my experience comes from being a Director of a Primary Care Clinic with integrated behavioral health and speciality services. I have worked with and employed, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, LCSWs and psychologists. They were not psychoanalysts but of course, had training in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic theory which they use to work with patients if they are actually doing any "talk therapy"(not just filling rx's or doing short-term behavioral interventions). When we are hiring providers like these, the HR department might use "experience with psychoanalysis" or "psychoanalyst" as part of a list of career titles along with psychologist, counselor, psychotherapist...The actual practice of Psychoanalysis has changed significantly from the technique that Freud originated. Most professionals who call themselves psychoanalysts are much more diverse in how they integrate and use psychodynamic theory in their work with clients: many identify more specifically with a post-freudian perspective (ie. Jung, Adler, Klein, etc...) Also wanted to ask why you never mentioned LFMT's in your video? There are significantly more of them in California than LPCCs.
@neurotransmissions4 жыл бұрын
@@shardy65 Indeed, we're all a bit skewed. :) As stated before, I kept the categories to broad terminology rather than specific licenses and subcategories because it would become too bloated. LPCC, LMFT, LCSW, LSW, LPC, CRNP, PhD, PsyD, MD, DO, LMHC, LCPC, LEP, RPT, NCC, CPCS, LPE, LCAT, LAC, LSSP, SAC, CADC, MFLC, ATR, R-DMT, MT-BC, sports psychologists, school counselors, career counselors, behavioral therapists, sex therapists, eating disorder therapists, grief counselors, substance abuse counselors, pastoral counselors, the list goes on and on. We could spend all day listing various mental health professional titles, which is why I limited it to commonly-used terms. I hope you understand.
