Mental Kids in Maltby at Night and Daytime Calm at Roche Abbey

Today we continue our Broken Britain and UK tour by visiting one of South Yorkshire's most run down and deprived areas.
Famous for celebrities such as The Chuckle Brothers, Lynne Perrie, Cricket Legend Fred Truman, Duggie Brown and Bill Waddington amongst many others, Yorkshire hosts the town of Maltby which is on the outskirts of Rotherham.
This broken town is another fine example of the mess that Maggie Thatcher and previous other governments left behind when destroying mining towns and communities.
Join us on the doorstep of the great Yorkshire countryside as we take the challeng of walking the streets at night, alone, and take a look around what is described by subscribers as one of the worst parts of Broken Britain in the whole area, whilst showing you what is left of this so called rough town.
We then take a visit just minutes down the road to the beautiful remains of Roche Abbey.

@AbroadYorkshire Yes hopefully it will. I just watching hoping to see somewhere I would love to live. I don't like where I live at the moment and I definitely don't like Mansfield town. I'm asthmatic where we live is all hills and Mansfield has shops sprawled all over. When I first moved here 25 years ago my asthma wasn't this bad and I definitely didn't have the lightheadedness, that's since the vaccine. Xx

Maltby seems to have a bit of a reputation, mostly undeserved though, it's generally quite a friendly place. There aren't as many pubs and clubs as there used to be but there are more than you saw there. If you carry on past the Queens towards Tickhill there's a club, the Slip, and a pub, the Lumley which is a Sam Smiths pub. Top of Grange Lane, the road with the bank on, there's the Sheppey, there's also another Sam Smiths pub, the Manor on Braithwell Road, the Hay Nook on the new estate and the best boozer in Maltby, the Catholic Club next to Tesco. That stream at Roche Abbey is Maltby beck which flows into the river Ryton at Blyth. The pond and waterfall were done by Capability Brown who landscaped the area in the 18th century. Great channel by the way, just came across it recently and enjoying your videos.

We drive through every week to go to home bargains. We are still in Wickersley. Loved Roche abbey when I was a kid! Don’t think me and you bothered, we used to stay In swinton and knock about there. Best times! 💙

The waterway that runs through the abbey ruins is called Firbeck Dike. It eventually flows into the River Reyton in Bltyh before heading north where it meets the River Idle near Bawtry. It's a nice little spot where the stream is at the back of the Abbey towards Stone, a good place to see Kingfisher and there is often a Heron knocking about to. If you a very very lucky you may even spot a Red Kite there.

My cousin lives in Maltby. I've been there but not for the past 20 years cos I live up in north east England now. It looks like a mixed bag down there. It seems quite nice on the whole. Some old mining towns fare better than others. Goldthorpe is an example of one that has fared badly. But Maltby looks to have had slightly better fortunes. Shame about the pubs shutting though. A lot of that up here too. Too many that are economically unsustainable

Sadly lost my wee Dad in October, his remaining family live in Maltby, always remember visiting what we called my" English Gran " im Scottish, she asked us if we wanted some pop ,had no idea what she meant 😅 How about visiting Costa Del Sol ,plenty places to visit 😬

I reckon we could start a new debate “what do you call pop in your area” lol.. as for Costa Del Sol, we wanted to visit my cousin in Marbella when we were in Benidorm the last time around, but we had the great Scooter Scandal that prevented us from going. So it’s defo on the cards next time we are in Spain.

Not seen a beat copper since the late 70’s pal. Funnily enough, 5 mins earlier in the video from those kids pulling wheelies, a set of Rozzers went flying up with blue lights..probably after Joe Bloggs for a Tweet about Starmer having a tape worm or summat ..! I remember as kids, if we got caught giving someone a backie, we’d get a clip round the ear from the coppers and told to get off and push it home. God help us if we pulled a wheelie on the road !

Reason why I mentioned about a pork sarnie contest was because in Sheffield there's a pork sarnie shop called beres there's a few dotted around Sheffield the one I go to is on wadsley bridge road between parson cross and fox hill areas everyone in Sheffield says beres pork sarnie s with all the trimmings stuffing crackling apple sauce and dripping are unmatched and to be honest with u pal i agree beres pork sarnie are a 10/10 I will have to give one a try pal
