Yeah, except, the planet isn't a lab, and it does things like make hurricanes that would happen either way, but it gives them more energy thus leading like what would be a cat 3 to become a Cat 4 or 5. Heat is energy, and if the Storms have more of it available to them, it won't CAUSE A hurricane, but it will make the hurricane that would have happened either way become an even bigger storm than it would have been without humanities CO2 emissions. But yea, Nature handles some of the CO2, it does make the plants grow more effectively. Still, California Wildfires, all of that shit is not worth it. Basically our Carbon emissions are making hurricanes more intense and the hot summers combined with forest mismanagement because turns out trees need fire and so decades of fire suppression later, and The Carbon is going to burn a huge amount of those forest and it's tragic.

It’s a supply chain thing, the chip used in the iPhone 15 is the A16 which was introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro, since the 14s didn’t support usb 3 it would have been a waste of transistors to include the usb 3 controller. 2:45 Nono you got this wrong, glass on the back is not for wireless charging bc plastic poses no obstacle to wireless charging. Glass on the back is for the added fragility which makes it more likely for consumers to break their phone and spend money on a new phone / on the repair.
@lukeh990
@lukeh990 Жыл бұрын
Glass is usually a cosmetic decision because it’s more premium than plastic. They used to do metal backs until they decided to implement wireless charging. I’m also led to believe that plastic backs are more susceptible to scratching.
@flo0778
@flo0778 Жыл бұрын
@@lukeh990 "more premium" is a scam. Plastic and glass are materials, they differ by material properties. "premium" is not a material property. I'm not even positive that glass is more expensive than plastic its just advertising. On the scratch front I am not convinced either, I have been trying to scratch my pixel 4a's plastic back for 10 mins with keys, I can't produce any result. @@flo0778 you are correct that premium is not a property of any material. It’s as I said a stylistic choice. It may also be that I’m working on old information since I’ve not used a phone with a plastic back in a very long time. But in today’s world, glass is more expensive and in my opinion my iPhone 13 would feel a lot less Apple-like if it had a plastic back. @@lukeh990 Apple can make whatever they like "Apple-like" by definition. It could have been wood, leather. @lukeh990
@lukeh990 Жыл бұрын
@@flo0778 There is a fact about Apple that you may be aware of, Apple’s design team is more powerful than most other departments. Meaning that Apple designs a product then the engineers make it work. Sometimes at the expense of practicality. This means that as long as the designers think glass looks better the engineers have to make it work. But that doesn’t necessarily rule out a higher authority in the company mandating the use of glass. Remember when Apple tried to make that charging mat with 20 charging coils? It was made by designers then engineers had to try and make it work, which ended up backfiring.

At a previous job we worked with titanium, steel and stainless for highly stressed machine parts. Unless we were told to use titanium for a part we avoided TI like the plague. High strenth steel and stainless steel was stronger, harder and has a higher fatigue life, the weight savings from TI was seldom worth the difficulty and risk of using it. Titanium is hard to machine, hard to weld, takes forever to procure. An object like a phone needs high hardness for scratch resistance and weight is a non-issue as people like extra weight in their electronics. If I were designing a phone I would make it out of a heat treatable stainless alloy and heat treat or (if possible) case harden it.

the main issue with titanium is generally cost (minor for a phone) but more so the specialized tools needed to machine it make it cost up to 30x as much to process. They way i have seen it described is that while most metals come off in relatively clean shavings, titanium will friction weld to the bit causing it to "gum up" the tools used to machine it which must be specialized and are consumed much quicker. it also has issues with being relatively flexable and transfers heat at 1/4 the rate of steel and 1/10 the rate of aluminum which adds to the difficulty in machining it. I still agree its the superior choice for a small and premium item you want to keep for more than 4-5 years but that has long conflicted with their business model and the benefits, while real, are minor when you account for the heightened rigidity of aluminum due to the larger cross section, so it truly is the premium metal.

@@xp8969 bro apple devices have the best longevity by far. They get major OS updates for like 6 years when most flagship androids stop getting them after 2 or 3. There are plenty of reasons do pick android over iOS but device lifespan is not one of them lol. Android devices have more variety in the cameras you can get (whether they’re better is subjective imo, but android and iPhone flagships definitely trade blows. There’s also more variety in the form factor, and a wider array of pricepoints. A more open app installation process to install emulators is another good one. The top end also often have better screens. But I want a not that exciting phone that works consistently, has a great battery life, and installs all the apps I need. iOS fits the bill for me and I prefer the look and feel of the OS to android, but if I wanted folding screens or emulators I’d pick differently. I tinker enough on my steamdeck and Linux PC I don’t want to do it on my phone

If you have a power supply and solution you can electrically anodize without too much trouble also, but it does have some bigger barriers, being the two items i listed

I think Apple’s claims of carbon reduction are on the production side. In the case of leather, it takes A TON of water to produce, but is biodegradable. With their recycled bands, it may be far less resource intensive of the production side while not being biodegradable at all. So they could still say their products are 100% carbon neutral when they’re using 100% recycled plastic. Still shipping plastic, but it’s recycled…
@johnthomas2970

I’d rather something with a lower emissions profile than being biodegradable tbh. Most people seem to forget that when advocating for compostable takeaway utensils/cups over plastic. Sure, the ones that end up in the ocean will biodegrade, but the vast majority that end up in landfill will emit methane due to being made of organic matter, which will give them a higher emissions profile. Biodegradable only works when you have a decent composting system in place to avoid anaerobic decomposition

The leather is actually not biodegradable nor recycleable if it's treated with chromium salt, which it most likely is because it only takes one day to do so. The alternative, vegetable tanning, takes months but is then biodegradable.. so we know for sure that Apple isn't using that method (90% of leather is chromium-salt-treated). So, this is definitely an improvement. Of course, do your own research on the subject rather than take my word for it.

I hope you're joking: Android phones beat iPhones in every single category depending on if you're looking for features, performance, camera, software, or any else I can't think of right now. And of course, all the things that come with an open source OS, so being able to have root access, much better compatibility with whatever you want (like an Android phone able to flawlessly connect and work on a Macbook but somehow, an iPhone can't do the same on Windows or Linux), custom ROMs, having modded apk for popular apps (like Twitter, KZbin, Instagram, etc...) which enhance the experience while being less heavy on your phone's resources. There are too much advantages of having an Android phone over an iPhone. The don't even have the software anymore because of phones like the Nothing Phone 2 which are greatly optimized and are still much cheaper than any iPhone ever was. The only advantage of the iPhone now is that it work well within the Apple ecosystem and you can brag in society that you possess an expensive phone, showing you can afford it.

If glass remains fragile, the end result is either shattered glass covered by titanium alloy or the titanium concealed within silicone phone case. So, what's the point of titanium alloy frames? While phones can be repaired, they can still be rendered obsolete through software limitations, such as CPU throttling and restricting iOS updates. Sometimes, when using recommended parameters with Xcode, it automatically sets the app's target OS to a version higher than necessary, making it impossible for older devices to update the app without updating iOS, but iOS updates can be restricted if Apple wants your device to be obsolete. If this happens, you still get notification for updates but you can't do anything other than buying a new device, this design naturally makes the notifications ads. The app's OS version targeting appears as if it's the choice of third-party developers, but how easily it is set with the small fonts notification in Xcode is design by Apple.

the back glass being replaceable without the use of a specialized laser machine to burn the glue off was thing the 14 introduced, however only for the base 14 and plus models, both pro models remained exactly the same as previous models in that regard. the back glass on 14 is held in with some glue and the two security pins like the screen, which is even thinner than the 13 models, and this back panel must be removed in order to disconnect the battery and access all other internal components. of course apple being apple, a new positive change has to come with a new negative change, namely that now the wireless charger and camera flash flex cable are attached to said back glass, and from what I understand are of course serialized like the screens, batteries, and face id flex cable, why exactly a camera flash and wireless charger needs to be serialized, who knows, ask the hipster geniues at apple that will either claim it's for "safety and security" or that it's a calibration issue, yet still say you cant have access to said calibration software (pixle phones also require calibration on the screens or the fingerprint scanner wont work, but unlike apple, google makes the calibration tools available along with a guide, so it's doable but complicated). From what I've heard, replacing this camera flash cable will remove the ability to take pictures with the flash, as photos will not save, no error popup this time tho. also trying to install the back glass without either transferring the old one or installing a new one with the part already installed will leave a hole in the back for dust a moisture to ingress from, and result in the phone abruptly rebooting itself after about 5 minutes, since the phone runs periodic checks on various sensor components and if these checks fail the phone will shut off as a security feature. say what you will about samsung devices and their rather lackluster software features, but their phones dont do any of this serialization nonesense that apple and google devices do, nor do they employ the tricks that apple does like flip flopping with the types of screws needed or gluing things like cables in place so that if you don't know to work around it you end up damaging something and have to explain to an upset customer why they wont have certain features anymore and pray they dont demand you replace the entire device for free. I'm convinced that a trained monkey can repair a samsung phone without damaging anything, atleast so long as it's not just the lcd without frame, since those are fragile and kind of a pain to remove from the frame. really curious to see how apple gonna implement removable batteries on the iphone 17 or 18, now that the EU has mandated that all manufactures implement that as a standard feature by 2027, im sure they will find a way to fuck it up just so they can be different than everybody else, in true hipster fashion.

@rigierish3807
@rigierish3807 Жыл бұрын
Well I would like to return you the question: why don't you have something against locked down operating system? I can't believe you use Linux instead of Windows for such vague reasons and still don't understand what are the advantages of using an open source operating system after all these years. The main reason for using Linux over Windows is that it's not proprietary, meaning it doesn't belong to any company, and more than that, it's open source. From that, a lot of things emerge and I don't want to give you all the advantages of having an open source system because that would be too long to list; go on the internet, there are a lot of people who made articles and videos about it, but the main reason is that you can do whatever you want on your system, and you're not limited by the company who owns the operating system you're using. Another reason is that you just can't be trapped in any way by the company who maintains the OS and you can choose what you want or don't want. It's not a coincidence that Linux have hundreds of distributions but Windows and MacOS only have one : when you're using their OS and update to the next version, you will have no other choice but to accept all the things they added or removed compare to the previous version, which is why a lot of people got annoyed when Microsoft released Windows 11 (so you can clearly see that most user will have to care eventually if they run a proprietary OS or an open source one for reasons like that). So basically, it's either you deal with it or you use another OS. You don't have this problem on Linux. That's why when I installed Ubuntu on some of my relative's laptop, because Ubuntu is preinstalled with a lot of crap and force the use of snap, which I personally think is the worst, you know what I did? I just removed them, including the main browser and installed the programs to replace it. Just like that. Imagine for a second removing the main browser on Windows (Edge) or Mac (Safari). Well you don't need to imagine it, it's impossible. Of course there are so much more reasons but everything comes down to the fact nothing can be imposed on the user by any company and you're free to do whatever you want on your system due to its open source nature. Well it's the exact same thing for iOS vs Android. Enough people have demonstrated and proved in the past how dependent iPhone users are to Apple, by getting basic features Android had for years, while on Android, people don't have to wait for Google or the company from which they bought their phone to implement a feature, they'll do it themselves with custom ROMs. By the way, maybe you didn't know that but most of the software features we have on Android phones as well as iPhones come from custom ROMs, Apple and Google as well as all the companies working on their own Android custom ROMs only took care of copying them. So you can thank the open source community for that because I doubt we would have that much features if it wasn't for the custom ROMs. The same way, Android is objectively a far better option than iOS because due to its open source nature, any enterprise can make an Android phone, so you can choose your phone according to your needs and not what this or that enterprise thinks you need. That's why you only have one phone using iOS: iPhones, while you have maybe hundreds of phone types which use Android as their OS. You also can have Android at virtually any price range, from $50-100 to $2500. For iPhones, you're stuck in the $800 to $1500 price range if you want a recent enough phone. And whether most users care or not as you mentioned, is not the point: everyone will pay the consequences of using a proprietary/locked down OS at some point by not being able to do what they want on their device, by having to pay an absurd price for something basic or by having something imposed on them they don't want, as I've shown you for Windows 11. On an open OS, you don't have to deal with this. So maybe you're the very average user who never needed to do something outside of the borders Apple imposed on you, but the day you will, you won't be very happy and you will maybe switch to Android and experience what it means to truly own your system, by being able to choose what you want to have on it or not and how you use it.

I could never enjoy using my phone without the ability to download beta or temporary location locked application. It would suck if I didn't have cracked Spotify, modded Discord/Reddit/KZbin, unreleased games, F-droid (in order to download free open source applications). I've grown too comfortable with being able to do whatever I want with my own devices, switching to IOS would be akin to clipping off a birds wings.

@@rigierish3807 Jeez, I wasn’t expecting a wall of text. I run Linux on my daily laptop because I’m a software engineer and when I was running Windows, I had a bunch of issues with windows being bloated. But for my gaming rig I use windows because despite the bloat, I can tell for sure that the drivers are as designed by the manufacturer and there isn’t a translation layer in the way. But I think iOS is the better choice for mobile computing since you shouldn’t need or expect the same thing as a desktop from it. I know that iOS has been tailor made for my iPhone and the user experience has been made as seamless as possible. My phone is on me at all times and because of that the most risk I tolerate with it is a public beta of the next iOS. I think that since android has to cater to a bunch of different combinations of hardware, it has a less consistent user experience and varying levels of quality.

@@gachivalantine3792Those are simply features that I don’t need. I’m most certainly an advanced user but I like the way iOS looks and feels. All my apps work no problems. The company that makes my OS make my Hardware so I know that I’m getting the absolute most that I can from it. That’s just how I prefer my mobile OS. But for my dev machine, I’ll run kubuntu all day because I don’t like how windows is bloated.

I don't think no one is againts having operation system unlocked. But there should be NO laws regarding this and people should just use their wallet for something smarter and better. But rather than doing that, they are sticking with old brands which is bloated many times, they aren't capable of finding alternatives for some reason despite it's being one of the easiest. I have used Android and recently (like 2020) i have unlocked my phone's bootloader and degoogled and such. But no one considers alternatives AT all

Apple will still spoil it charging more for “authentic” Apple parts. But, they’ll be easier to repair. The other worry is the paired hardware making the unit less functional as Hugh Jeffreys demo on his channel. The parts will be easy to switch out but software impaired like face id and numerous nag notifications about unverified parts. Apple thinks Titanium is a feature when caked between sheets of glass…nope. Watch double tap was already a feature in older models. Colors are so dystopian and tone down corporate. Satellite help is useful though…

Knowing Apple the games mentioned will probably be streamed from the iCloud. So no real rendering it's just cloud gaming.

Last iPhone I had was 5S and I loved mute switch. If am at work and my phone starts going off, it's pretty rude to take out your phone while someone is talking and turn off the sound, while you can put hand in your pocket and just move the switch. Button is nice idea, but I already see that it's gonna be a lot of miss clicks while in pocket .

To be honest I also liked the physical button more than this taptic stuff. It will still work, but not that feeling

You can also use the side button/power button. One click mutes the ring, second click declines the call.

About the repairability aspect. What they mostly mean is this. Previously, glass backed iPhones attached the back glass with some serious adhesive. It’s like military strength. So strong, that it’s very, very difficult to separate with heat. People have even gone backwards and froze the adhesive, or replace the entire housing. China, however, had our backs, and created a laser machine that burns the adhesive. However, on the standard iPhone 14, they changed that, by using a different adhesive that’s still super strong at room temperature, but doesn’t need super high temperatures to soften it, making it far easier to remove. This year, they seem to be expanding that to all new models. But, there’s another thing iPhones did to sabotage 3rd party repair. The phone was programmed to be able to detect when certain parts are replaced, and if it detects it, it will throw warning messages and even artificially disable certain functionality. For example, replacement screens will brick True Tone, and it supposedly also disables auto brightness, but in my experience, I’ve found that not to be the case, at least on the iPhone 8. Anyways, other parts like this include the battery and cameras. A replacement battery will disable the health reading, a replacement frond camera will brick Face ID, portrait mode, and cinematic mode on the front camera only. A replacement rear camera will only throw a warning message now. If you want to check out how this works, then watch Hugh Jeffreys. He’s done several videos discussing this practice. Apple claims that they have backed a right to repair bill in California, but I’m very skeptical about that. But hopefully, they at least lax off the limitations on repaired iPhones a bit. Well, we’ll just have to wait for Hugh to get ahold of the iPhone 15 for him to do his work. Anyways, thought this was important to know.
