If you have been in a psych hospital you have to wait 3 years after your last institution and not going back to one within that 3 year period. If on medication a recruiter told me at least 3 months with out taking any medicine but someone on KZbin said at least 2 years without taking medicine. That's what I've learned. I really want to be a pj in the air force and have to wait 2 more years to legally join. However I think it's ridiculous that people with anxiety and or depression have such a hard time getting in. Most of these people have gone through so much trials that has only made them stronger and a more empathetic human being. Not everyone grew up with a good home or school life. I was bullied since 1st grade on up till 10th grade and got into many fights because of it but I never started one. It's natural to get anxiety PTSD and depression from toxic and dangerous situations. The military is losing very strong and capable would be soldiers who can deal with extreme stress and pain probably more than regular soldiers that get in. Also many soldiers are on medications once in. I hope people stop with judging and stigmatizing people who have had a rough life. Military needs to loosen their standards it's impossible to be a 100% perfect human being that has no injuries, no afflictions, and never having had to go through trials. Imo the strongest people are the people who've been through hell but still want to serve and make a difference. I hope everyone who reads this has their dream come true. We should all pray for each other and the military to get better and understand why their recruiting numbers are so low. Stay strong and never give up.

If you have mental health records, you're pretty much disqualified from any cool job. Which is weird considering you can still get a gun and do harm. I firmly believe allowing people who feel lost/without purpose to join a group/unit where responsibility is held as a high standard, and everything is done with purpose, is a good thing. Unfortunately, that's a minority opinion.

The advice you’ve given is spot on in hopes for someone to get a mental health waiver. I’m prior service and just passed the physical portion of MEPS this past week but need a psych eval. The best advice I would give with trying to get a waiver approved in general, is to make sure you just grab all paperwork and medical clearances you can before even the pre screening. Whatever you’re going to disclose to your recruiter, bring everything in the beginning. Trust me, it’ll make things much easier. That’s what I did and my waiver got approved for the Air Force. Waited for almost a month to hear back but everyone’s situation is different so to prevent any long delays, just have every piece of documentation from any hospital, er, psych , etc visits and prescriptions, etc

I have an re-3 trying to get back I wanna go to the navy I said I have depression I was suicidal I wanted to self harm the minute I got there panic attack(I did when I got there) stress anxiety that I was depressed before luckily I didn’t get charged for fraudulent and it’s been a year and I have to prove I’m okay I’ve been healing I want to heal more because I do be suicidal and want to self harm not anymore but only when I feel really down and insecure but I am getting better sorry for saying that

The Army wants to have a perfect product, you aren't allowed to have any human emotions or short comings. I was diagnosed with some learning disabilities and had anger management issues as a kid, at 17 I joined the Army, my recruiter told me to shut my mouth and not say shit at MEPS so I did. I ended up going through OSUT for nothing because after I got chaptered out at my first duty station after I went to go see mental health for some shit I was going through and admitting to all this and the shrink over at the clinic I went to at Fort Drum ended up recommending me for doscharge. I've tried for years to reinlist and been turned away every single time. There were dudes in my unit that regularly did hard drugs, were active gang members, couldn't pass a PT test/ tape to save there life, NCO's that have been busted down multiple times for abusing joes or fratenizing with them, but they chaptered me out and I had no where to go and nothing to show for the year and a half I spent in the Army.

I was denied army for 2 er visits, they seen I talked to mental health an placed on anxiety meds back in 2018. Well spoke to another recruiter he told me exactly what the video recommends. 1. Mental health clearance letter with notes , list of medications picked up. I picked up my letter yesterday, haven’t took anxiety meds in years so nothing there to fight praying meps will approve .

I was diagnosed with anxiety and ptsd after 1 zoom meeting with a psychiatrist a year and a half ago. Never took medication nor followed up with more appointments after the matter. I went to MEPs and was temporarily disqualified. And since then I’ve spoke with a new psychiatrist who’s wrote a doctors and deemed mentally sound and perfectly normal. I’ve watched a lot of your videos and would just like a little insight of my chances of getting approved.

I think one of the reasons that MEPS is so picky for past mental health is military service can aggravate the mental condition especially in combat and then the VA ie federal government will be on the hook to compensate that veteran with VA disability compensation.

Currently waiting on my waiver from the Air Force for an OCD/Anxiety diagnosis with a few medications for it from age 9 to about 16. 25 now with a wife and two kids, it was submitted last week and my recruiter said we can expect to hear back next Friday. Aside from that there's nothing major or recent in my medical record and I submitted a very detailed statement, my medical and pharmacy records documenting the condition, and a letter from my employer stating I do not have any work accommodations. I'm really hoping that being off medications and symptom free for almost ten years helps get me that waiver because my wife and I are so excited and set on the Air Force and most of my family have been in the branch. I honestly think it was a misdiagnosis as my parents got trigger happy with the tricare at a young age. My recruiter is in good hopes so keeping my fingers crossed.

I had counseling over a decade ago and was dq'd from the Guard on account of mental health. I supplied all the needed paperwork and even got a "full recommendation for military service with no mental diagnosis" from the MEPS psych consult. But in the end I was still disqualified. Last week a local guard recruiter contacted me and encouraged me to try again, stating that the SG is currently being more lenient. Would you agree with that statement?

There once was a girl I had Army basic training and AIT with who had mental issues: motivated to do PT and happy to be there, controlling, ratting out other soldiers, and brown-nosing drill sergeants. Then later, next thing you know she's irritable, walking around paranoid thinking that everyone is against her and out to get her, making up a disturbingly malicious cadence about threatening to harm other soldiers, telling people she feels like the Devil is in her, not eating, and snapping at everyone that she does not want to talk about it when asked what was wrong and is she okay, and walking down the AIT barracks in a trance with her hair in disarray looking scary and frail, clutching her laundry bag. She was rendered non-deployable in AIT. I was surprised that she managed to pass MEPS. Does this sound suspect that she probably did not tell her recruiter or MEPS about her unstable mental health history?

In my past, I’ve been diagnosed with the usual depression, anxiety, and adhd. But I’ve experienced intense suicidal ideation while I was 15 and was put into a inpatient mental hospital 3 times. So I’m also going through something similar. I was hospitalized twice for about a week each in 7th and 8th grade, im 20 now. I also have self harm scars and I was on medication but never long term. Haven’t been medicated for about 4 years. I truly have learned how to cope with my mental health and I don’t believe I’m a risk to myself. Hey wanted to let you know, Jin K, I had mental health problems at age 15 now I am 24.5 and just went to MEPs for the physical, already passed the ASVAB before this. I went to therapy for 6 years 15 to 19 years old, the counselor wrote me a letter and sent in the documents so rn I am waiting for a waiver. The MEPs doctor said I have a 95% chance to enlisting due to the fact I've been off meds for 6 years and I have my counselors notes and letter plus my primary docs notes and letter. Hope this helps.

So recently found out that my husband had mental health and anxiety and depression and also intentional drug overdose on his medical history. But it happened 4 years old. I went to a specialist a mental health specialist to get evaluated and they passed him and wrote a letter saying for mental behavior and had been cleared to join the service also went to his PC doctor to get his medication history he has no prescribed medication for his health or wasn’t taken any medicine for that problem. Also we even got an a evaluation letter from his doctor for his mental health too and he been cleared to join the military. Is that okay will he still be able to pass

I'm almost 22. When I was 16 I didn't have an ' attempt' but a threat to hurt myself so I was placed on an in-patient hospital for 2 days. Basically I had a 5150 as a minor. They quickly let me go since they realized I was fine. Got a gun ban put on me for 5 years (which is now lifted)... I want to join the Air Force or Coast Guard. I never been put on any meds or had any history of therapy or none of that. Literally just that incident. I'm terrified that I am DQ'd just because of a stupid mistake I made as a kid. What do you think my chances are?

Go get 6mo of mental health counseling for 1-2 sessions per month and obtain an all clear letter. Source all the old emergency room, IP Hospital Records and the Notes from then and the current mental health evaluation you’re gonna complete. Then you’ll be primed for a waiver. hello! so i was EPTs reentry code 3 for postpartum depression ive never had any other history of depression never been to the hospital for it. i went into the army 9 months postpartum and i kind of got depressed and wanted to see my kids and just be out of there because i was in the arms program. now i am 5 months into being out of service and i haven't had any episode of depression nor have i taken any meds i am completely fine could i possibly get a waiver for that post partum depression ?

I have been trying to join the Navy since 2020 but have been denied twice due to "medical reasons" I was never told what specifically in my medical history disqualified me. I was diagnosed with tourette's, and anxiety at age 13 and went to counseling all the way to 17 or 18 haven't needed it since. I have been off all psych meds since 2019 without issues besides developing insomnia. And I've had 2 sinus surgies but have had no issues since 2019 as well. Unfortunately the Navy denied me so I went to the Army and they were willing to do the waiver process for all of the above issues. But then they denied me for being on medication for Hypothyroidism that has been under control since I was 8 years old :( I guess I'm just not meant to serve. I know things have changed over the years but I was good friends with a couple of recruiters both for the Navy. A mutual friend of ours went to counseling after a divorce pre teen. The Navy would not take her but the Army did. The crazy part was when she returned from boot camp and AIT she meet us at a local Burger King. I gave her a hug and my recruiter friend from the Navy gave her a hug. What we didn’t know was the gunny from the marines recruiting station was present at the restaurant that we didn’t see. He turned my Navy recruiter friend in for fraternization. when all was said and done he got demoted to a 3rd class petty officer with 11 years of service. When he got to his next duty station they kicked him out for a high 10 year as a third class. I never felt so bad for a guy in my life. My other mutual Navy recruiter friend was a master chief in the United States Navy. He was very upset with the situation. Nothing he could do to rectify what happened. I really looked down on the commander in Kansas City for the actions she took against him for a hug. She could have swept it under the rug.

My mom was physically abusive so me and siblings would argue back against her. I was the most defiant and I would match her energy and scream back. She would say "I'm sick of your attitude" and then call the police. She'd sit on the coach with her arms crossed patiently waiting for me to be picked up. As soon as they arrived she would start fake crying and walk up to the cops saying I was out of control, dispite me telling the cops the truth they believed her (not saying I blame them, I would have believed her too if I was in the cops shoes) and would have me placed in 72 hour psychiatric holds. She'd beat me with television wire when I would shower. She once woke me up for school by hitting me in the head with broom, but if I yelled back at her after should start calling me and my siblings homophobic slurs She'd baker act me as a form of punishment. I couldn't join the military because of it and I still blame her for doing that to me

Can you get a waiver for Asperger’s. I’m on the higher end of the spectrum. I can work under pressure and no sensory issues at all. I’m plan on going into the navy. I’m great with social skills and communicating with others. And I haven’t took any meds for at least a very good while since I was 17 yr old.I learned to manage my emotions very well in the past 5 years. They can’t clear you for military service but based on your entire record, updated testing and evaluations can recommend you basically. Hello there just wondering ! I just done my meps and just need hearing waiver to be approved, any idea how long its gonna be it takes to be approved? Coz the sound of doctor is just a normal waiver and he said its really pretty quick this days coz military need some people . Any thoughts guys ! Thank you

MEPS doesn’t decide on waivers and medical waivers typically take a couple of weeks or less but not uncommon to take up to 45-60 days. Yes I have been DQd for past depression and drug addiction. My recruiter got me sent to a behavioral health specialist who cleared me to move forward. Still waiting on if my waiver is approved or denied

Meps disqualified me becouse they said I had some permenat disqualifiers medically...can I still join the military if I can prove I am in good health and show proof that there is nothing wrong with me???

Hello, I've decided to enlist in the Marines instead of the Army. I passed the ASVAB with an 80th percentile score and completed my medical examination at MEPS. Surprisingly, I was flagged for anxiety, despite never being diagnosed or prescribed any medication for it. They claim it's based on records showing a prescription four years ago, which I was unaware of. Now, they're asking me to undergo a psychiatric evaluation at my own expense of $200, which seems unreasonable to me.

Tell your Recruiter to have MEPS schedule you a “Psych Consult.” This is something DOD funds and you def don’t pay out of pocket or do on your own unless you want to. I’ve completed two of these this fiscal year alone. Unless they currently don’t have a government contracted mental health specialist on the books at the moment could be the “ONLY” reason they’re suggesting that. this makes me regret getting out if i do that now ill be 24 when im done with those appointments. i completed BCT and AIT but 2 days before my graduation i psyched myself out because of what people at my training and familly member were saying about being in the military and my duty station (Alaska) (amazing right?) i know. but im a completely changed person now and not gullible at all im glad i learned my lesson and hopefully after i get my degree i can rejoin :/
