best car ive ever owned was a 1998 MB 320E Wagon. It did everything well. Weighing nearly 2 tons it could still corner like a sports car, accelerate like an animal, and you could practically load another car into the back. No car ever made me feel as safe as that vehicle. Surprisingly it wasn't even terrible on gas. Man I miss that car. Gave it up for cosmetic reasons, still drove awesome till I traded it in.

My 4matic c300 made it threw 3 feet of snow today, it was nuts, I wasnt even able to open my doors and push even if I wanted to. This is with open diffs front and rear, trully amazing system, I had no clearance yet suv's weren't even able to go threw. I can only imagine how good a 4matic GLK would do since itsjust a lifted c class with more clearance, quatro or 4matic is the way to go, hard to say which is better, with good tires they perform equally, not xdrive bmw's on the other hand, forget it, I saw 3 bimmers stuck that day and they had so much issues taking off.

A great system, and also cheaper to make because they don't have individual locks. That said, you end up with less appliable power than a real AWD system that has proper mechnical or electronically controlled diffs. No rally car is going to be using this system, but it will definitely keep you safe in bad weather.

For all you guy that are saying Subaru has the best AWD system is not true. testing a car on rollers doesnt prove anything. Hondas SH-AWD has been proven in the real world were is matters from the track to an icy road, the system is practically unstoppable and it far more advance than Subaru and the others and to this day no one has matched it, its been out since 2004. And many car reviewers have said it the "best on the market"

I have a Mercedes C250 4matic V6 and it's the best thing ever. I can't even get the car to slide in the winter and I live in central Canada where we have -40C temperatures every winter and our roads are absolute garbage. I'm not even going to bother registering my Jeep Wrangler this winter. Mercedes is great. I'd buy a Subaru if they all didn't have such obtuse and generally unappealing looking exterior. The 2014 WRX concept looks decent, it may be the first car Subaru has ever made that doesn't look like complete shit.

i'm an E320 4matic owner and i can attest to the same thing. i dont live quite as far north as Canada but im not far away in the Midwest United States. The car handles like a boss in the winter and not to be cliche but it really inspires confidence driving in rough weather conditions with the 4matic awd system. I can also say it has saved my life in a number of driving incidents. Its no secret that Mercedes Benz has pioneered safety in the auto industry from seat belts to air bags and more. And i do believe that Mercedes Benz vehicles have a level of quality and ingenuity that other manufacturers in the same industry do not.

Subaru is working on the idea of boxer engine combined with awd for approximately 40 years! There are many critical differences on the way the two systems operate. Not to mention the value for money factor + reliability and maintenance requirements! If you take all these under consideration the two systems are not even close realy! I have driven a subaru forester and I have personal experience on how well it operates under all conditions without any effort.

@ethosflux True.Its not as good as Audi's Quattro system,because this system also lacks a sort of safety.Its controlled by wheel sensors,but Audi has pure mechanical and reliable Torsen central differencial.Also its a lot more complex than Audi's system too.

It doesnt matter if you have subaru or audi, AWD system or Mercedes 4Matic AWD System it depends more on the ability of the drivers driving skill and his knowledge on his or her own car and they should know how it handles on all wheather conditions, I mean AWD is nice to have but if theres a shitty driver driving an AWD or not your crashing it one way or another. I have a 2011 Honda Accord and this last winter strom we got here in NYC with black ice covering most of the streets i drove the minimum 30 to 35 MPH to 45 without sliding on an FWD with Traction Control without crashing.

I respectfully disagree. I live in Canada with very severe weathers causing ice and snow covered roads for much of the winter months. I have owned a lot of cars with AWD but my first 2013 Mercedes ML350 4matic and it handles snow and ice like no other vehicle. My drive way is sheer ice and the ML350 climbs it without slipping, spinning or loss of traction that no other vehicle can do.

Having owned a 2015 Subaru Forester and a 2012 ML350 I can tell you that ML350 AWD is on par with the Subaru if not less. With the additional torque from the Diesel engine and the airmatic suspension + wider tyres the ML350 is a much more comfortable and confidence inspiring drive. In bad weather conditions I would definitely pick the ML350 over my Subaru Forester - but that’s my humble opinion🙂

How bad is that system ESP for the city drive(always touching the breaks in every turn its too much ), thanks to the manufacturers that puts the buton ESP OFF -Thanks. ......but the truth is that ESP is something that make driving out of the city safer ( makes the difference between live or death), because of that is highly recommended, and for that Thanks the manufacturers again !

Does anyone know about traction control devices (chains/cables) on AWD cars? I've always understood that with FWD, 4WD and AWD, traction devices go on the front, but someone who seems to know what he's talking about told me (with an explanation I can include, if anyone's interested) that if you use traction devices on AWD, you must use them on all 4 wheels, never just 2. I've scoured the Interwebs for information and it doesn't seem to be addressed anywhere.
@tpeoples3516
@tpeoples3516 3 жыл бұрын
Yeahhh the thing with AWD is that whatever you do to one wheel, you have to do to all of them in most cases, because if you don't you'll burn out the diff, transfer case from different wheels spinning at different speeds constantly. It's the reason why you can't do a staggered wheel setup on AWD cars.

That electronically controlled limited slip/traction control is bullshit. If they just put limited slip differentials in the car, they wouldn't have to worry about the $20,000 electronic system that does nothing but auto-apply the bakes. Ridiculous. This is what Germany is doing. Putting this stupid shit in cars, costing you a lot more money for no god damn reason. This isn't more efficient. It uses power to do this, and wears brakes faster, whereas a limited slip diff is all mechanical, uses zero power, and has no affect on the brakes whatsoever. Don't buy German. It's a rip off.

the fck are you talking about lol, its a little module that is on the abs pump, nothing crazy, its like 500$ if it breaks and which it doesn't, if you have an issue, you open it up and its just a solder joint that cracks on the circuit board, people replace them without knowing its a simple electrical fix, the shops that charge 400$ to rebuild them must be laughing.

A strange thing happened to my GLK 4matic. I was making a right turn at low speed up a gentle slope on snow covered road. The tail was losing traction, so with slight acceleration hoping to pull it out of the skid; instead the SUV lost control and skid more. Can anyone tell me why?
@jeffhenke7290
@jeffhenke7290 7 жыл бұрын
You caused the wheels to slip even more by accelerating. On a turn, weight is distributed to one side more than the other. If you are turning left and your back left tire is slipping, increasing speed will cause more weight to be shifted to the right side, causing less weight on the left side, decreasing traction. This causes a slipping tire on ice and makes correction difficult because that wheel will have a sudden increase in force coming out of the turn, causing the car to spin out.

@mogulsman
@mogulsman 13 жыл бұрын
I disagree with this video, this system does not give the best possible traction. Subaru AWD is the best AWD, it is the most direct to the wheels and goes through the least amount of parts of any AWD system in the powertrain. This creates a direct to road (or snow, or dirt, or any condition) AWD that is far superior and will get you much further than 4-Matic, Quattro, 4-Motion, XI Drive, Realtime, Fulltime, or anyother AWD. Go SUBARU!!!
