I fell in love with the R129 500SL. And still drive one to this day - a 1993 model. But when I saw the C209 chassis CLK 500 it was all over! I had to have one! So I got a low mileage, used 2006 in fantastic condition and made it my new daily driver.

Jwatwater it was called the CLK because CLK stood for Coupé Licht (light) and the K stands for Kurz or short to differentiate between the CLK and the CL, the largest coupé. It couldn't be called an E class coupé because even though it has the E class styling on the outside it really is a C class coupé built on the C class chassis. The current E class coupé IS however built on the E class chassis.

Something else too, I own a 2005 CLK 55 AMG "Avantgarde" Sport and the interior is mainly E-Class grade but with some C-Class design touches. The Cabriolet seemed to have gotten some SL-Class DNA as well.
