Thanks for the vid. Totally made the job easier and uneventful. Tranny shifts smoothly and cured some shuddering issues I was having going uphill with light throttle . 250K miles on the car and it runs really well. 2003 E500. I didn't even bother asking the stealership how much they charge, local mechanic wanted $800 . I did it all for $207 including a stinkin dipstick that costs $20. I only got 3.4L the first drain. I put 4L in the refill and the level is at the top of the range on the golden dipstick. I also did the flush according to your vid. (3L out, 3L in, repeat). The fluid was incredibly gross as I don't think it had been changed in about 100K miles. Thaks for this effort, much appreciated!

Nice video. Unfortunately i picked the wrong oil line and the first load ended up on the floor instead of the bucket, but there you go. When i refilled with clean fluid i noted that the gearbox pump will pump down to 10mm on the dipstick, and 1L will raise the level 40mm. In short, having pumped out it took 2.5l to bring me up to the correct level and i have not needed to adjust it yet. Also, the improvements weren't instant, the notchiness melted away over a few days but i'm very pleased with the result. Its surprising how the transmission deteriorates without you noticing, its certainly a job that needs doing. Thanks again from the Black Country, UK.

I ran to my files to discover that the previous owner of my '99 w140 - S320 had tranny flushed at 60, 90 and 120K miles ea. time adding a new data connector and I am at 137K. You and my records have covered everything I need to know about my tranny. Thank You. Very well done!

Excellent thorough job. I'm going to steel it and use it on my S203 wagon. So much better than just dropping the pan, as you've shown, doing so changes less than 50% of the fluid, which is instantly contaminated by the old stuff when it circulates. Top marks!

Inspired by this video, I flushed my 2004 Jeep WJ transmission (MB CRD + 722.6). First drain out pan, remove it and clean = 4litres of fluid. Fill in 4l, run engine/go through gears ~20sec, stop and drain out pan = 2.5l out. Fill 2.5l and repeat 2 more times. After 3rd drain, remove pan, clean it, let drip for awhile. Replace filter and new gasket. Fill up so that drained qty equals filled qty. Fixed almost all my transmission problems (316000km on the car). Procedure is actually Jeep TSB method with small difference, original method included pan removal/cleaning in each drain phase.

This goes straight into my bookmarks. I'm going to do this task in a week or two max. My car (S203 sportline 2.2l diesel) has the same 722.6 gearbox but it's 12 years old and I bought it from a friend that was using it just like 2200miles / years. It's practically brand new at 45000km (28000miles) and I am pretty sure the transmission oil is still the original one, regardless he was having MB to change the engine oil every 2 years (7000km - 4300 miles). Thanks!

Hi there, first of all congratulations and thanks on an excellent video ! I have a Merc CLK 270 cdi that I bought about 1 yr ago. The engine had been service but the transmission hadn't and I was checking the level yesterday and the oil was in a similar state to yours, so I'm planning on doing a full flush as per your guidelines, not just a 3.5 ltrs "splash and dash". I am particularly grateful to see that I can disconnect one of the flow & return pipes (as you showed) to get the old stuff out.

Nice video, but you can also use a fluid extractor and pump out about 1 gallon of ATF from the dipstick hole and replace it with equal amount of fresh ATF with no hassles. Repeat it three times after driving a little in between fluid exchanges and you replaced most of the ATF fluid by dilution quickly and easily. Do it every 4 years and it will be sufficient for this transmission. You can do this from the engine bay while wearing your suit :). The cost will be ~$20/gallon per fluid exchange, if you use the fully synthetic Valvoline ATF that is approved for this transmission and works fine. My 20+ year old ML is at 250K miles and the transmission runs smoothly.

Great Video, this is the way even Mercedes do the flushing. You don´t need the machines to flush the system.Some gearboxes may need the machines, because you need pressure to flush the system and some gearboxes have a thermostate that opens at 80 degress celsius.But the 722.6 like this one get flushed this way.And please don´t use automatic cleaner into the oil.Upon the hydraulic steering plate is a plasticplate with all the sensors and may not like aggresive cleaner. great you do this work to go under the car when you don´t have a lift.I agree with you in the whole way.Thanks

I took off the transmission pan expecting to flush the transmission at 115,000 miles. Then WOW this CLK350 pan was missing both magnets! I had forgotten to reinstall the magnet on a Plymouth van once so I put a BIG magnet on the bottom of the pan. I had gone to Home Depot and got as many of the things I could buy. Replacement magnets cost a couple dollars for a pack of 6. I would need a new garden sprayer and tubing for the adapter that fits into the pan. The Transmission is sealed and the fluid needs a pump from the drain. I bought a 2008 Mercedes CLK350. The price was an indication of no service records. So all fluids need changing so I know when it was done.

Excellent video, What's really important is getting the kids involve in a young age to learn the importance of proper maintenance of the second most expensive investment of people's lives, Not only that they will save money but more importantly is to insure their safety. The mechanics do a lot of short cut not to your favor, They are time pressured (lets pace it...they need to make money just like everyone else) and yes you'll pay a lot of money for what little you get, Mechanics gets you back on the road but they want to see you real soon. You don't have to be a mechanic but at the very lease have an understanding of what's go on your vehicle so that even if you pay a mechanic you would know what to expect for what your paying for to resolve the problem. Last but not lease is that mechanic respects you for knowing your stuff and makes his job easier because you know exactly where the problem is. thanks for the video.

Hello, my son has a 2003 C320, we had the transmission replaced less than a year ago. Recently he went to drive his car and put it reverse and it wouldn't move. It was late in the day, so didn't try to do anything more. Next morning thought he would try it again. This time went in reverse and drive. He didn't drive the car, but called the transmission shop, They checked it and said that coolant had leaked into the transmission. Said the radiator had a hairline crack. This was not covered under the warranty. So had the car towed home. Did some research, replaced radiator, the transmission fluid had already been drained. In our research it was suggested that it's possible that since the transmission is pretty much new that it's possible the coolant leak may not have damaged the transmission yet. The shop didn't flush the transmission either. We can upon your video and all set up and ready to follow your process, since the car didn't have any fluid in it we just filled it with 4 liters started the car but it only drained a very small amount. So I thought I would ask if you had any suggestions or ideas why the fluid isn't coming out. Sorry for the long story, thought it would better to give you some history on the car.

Good video! Im about to do my E350 4matic 722.6. Depending on the condition of the fluid at the pan, I might just do a drain the fill with ATF 134. The transmission was fully flushed at 50k, now it's 100k. If yall are not comfortable doing the "flush", you could always do the drain and fill twice or three times, but that will cost a lot more materials/oil.

@@kubaSWAT hello, this vid is great EXCEPT its impossible to tell which of the two lines to disconnect. You want a 5/8“ ID clear vinyl hose and a hose clamp. Now which line? Trace the line to an upper connection on the radiator. This is the line but disconnect it under the radiator. The hose goes on the non-nut side of the line, this flushes the TC and the cooler. This is the return line back to the transmission.

I'd like to offer a tip that helped me flush my system thoroughly. Get a 20 to 24 inch length of black, heavy garden hose. Fill a gallon jug with fresh ATF and firmly seat garden hose in filter intake port and place in gallon of fresh fluid. Have someone start the car and cycle through gears until fresh pink fluid runs from transmission. Be careful not to allow gallon jug to empty as you don't want to draw air and damage transmission pump. This will give you a true flush and evacuate old fluid from torque converter as well.
@foreshadow2120
@foreshadow2120 6 жыл бұрын
Hello, Paul, I'm about to embark on changing out the old transmission fluid is it worth draining the torque converter or is this not necessary as the new oil cycles through the system whilst filling??
@PaulPhillipsFix
@PaulPhillipsFix 6 жыл бұрын
If your car doesn't have a drain plug in torque converter you will only be draining a portion of the fluid. Not much sense mixing old fluid with new, defeats the purpose. After you drop the pain remove the filter. Get an 18 inch piece of heavy garden hose and tightly hold to intake where filter draws fluid in. Place the other end of house in gallon jug filled with fresh fluid. Have someone start the car and run through gears until you start to see nice clean fluid coming from transmission, then your transmission is flushed. It'll pump old fluid out of torque converter and cooling lines as well.

This video is now several years old, nevertheless.....can you Mr. Car D. Ologist say a few words about removal of the alternator? I searched high and low for an applicable video, or even instructions only, but so far haven't come up with any hits. The alternator on this model (OM 648, straight 6 diesel) is rather well hidden, unlike on the v 6 etc models where removal is rather intuitive.

Uh oh, Krap,help! think I got the wrong ATF? I have a 2001 Jaguar XKR 4.0 supercharged. It has the 722. Mercedes transmission. I ordered the fluid and received and put in the following: Nr 29449/MB 236.14 Automatikgetriebeol. Followed your instructions, Drove it around the block, runs great, but slight burning smell. Found a site that says correct fluid, found one site that says not the correct. Maybe smell is spilled fluid? maybe incorrect fluid? Any help out there? Please? Thank you

+doublebasser razzmuss if your Jaguar have the 722.6 tranny, the 236.14 spec fluid will work with it. Whenever the 722.6 was first introduced, 236.10 was the spec, but over the years, Mercedes calls for 236.14 in both the 722.6 and the 722.9 tranny.

I ALWAYS replace the connecter together with the fluid and the filter (every 60.000 km). The connector is €9-12.

Hi, great video. When you talk about the right side of the transmission(20:13s) you mean it is in the side of the electric connector of it? Or in the oposite side? Thanks a million.

Hi, great video, after watching it I will change my fluid on my e320 cdi. Just a quick question: what gear should I use for flushing the fluid? or just leave it in " P ".

Nice job, my Dodge Challenger r/t has the NAG1 Mercedes transmission in it which I believe is the same as you have. You can take it to Dodge and they will perform a complete fluid exchange with a machine for around 200.00 dollars...fyi. ps how did you transmission do after the exchange...any problems? Thanks for you time.

Would you tell me what type of torque wrench you use and what capacity needed to do most of the procedures on the 06 W211 E320 CDI. Have been unable to locate a newton meter torque wrench.

I am wondering why you put new filter in there before flushing it! I would keep the old one in there , keep flushing it till I see the cherry red oil exiting (my point is even if the old dirty filter can spit out clean oil then the tranny is very clean . I will put new filter in there then.. ). This will assure me that the tranny is very cleaned out, but what you did is fine too just that I think the new filter might have caught some iota of dirty oil but since you were seeing cherry red oil on the 3rd flush well ..the heck with it at least 99.9/100 clean is assured. GOOD JOB ! GOOD VIDEO ! Beth good filming ! drive it the prom will ya .!!

+Ato Nympha Hi, the reasoning behind replacing the filter is to push new clean fluid through the pump & Torque Converter and purge the old nasty fluid from the oil cooler line. The old filter can pass crud from the detergent in the new fluid leading to contaminated fluid. Clean ATF added to the pan with a clean filter (strainer) and the work is only done one time. This changes 80-90 percent of the fluid and its easy to do with an assistant.. I hope this helps

@ Atos.nympha What your saying doesnt make sense. Hes got a clean oil pan with new filter. Hes adding the new filter then adding clean new oil to the pan. The filter is the point at which the new clean fluid gets sucked up into the transmission. No dirty fluid is being sucked up by the new filter or being mixed with the new filter or new oil till after the clean fluid leaves the filter. Then gets flushed out into his jug.
