thank you thank you. sooooooo it appears my worry (just swapped out one OM617 for another in a Jeep.. mayyyyyy be getting enough pressure. (Jeep sender on the turbo feed line) Ive not run it yet.. only spun the engine with starter.. and oil pressure barely blips the needle.with starter

The factory oil feed tube for the turbo has a restrictor. I think, that if you install a restrictor on your aftermarket turbo feed line, than you won't have any problems. I didn't measure the hole, but it is between 2-3mm, while the tube is ca. 10mm.

Thanks for the info. Most of our customers go the braided hose route. I only presented what I could find hard documentation on and while I looked for the info on the turbo feed, I couldn't find it in the manual. With the document being scanned (unsearchable), its hard to find info sometimes.

@@BenzForce I didn't know until i looked into the tube when i removed it from the engine (in fact, i have held the tube in my hands multiple times before i noticed) Nobody is talking about this. The tube is very thick, but in the turbo end it looks like the tube is solid with a small hole drilled into it. It is in the bend after (or before) the "flange", that is bolted to the turbo. I would like to add, that it is very important, to mount this tube to the air filter housing bracket. My tube cracked 2 times, because of vibration. I did not get the bracket with the engine, so i had to make my own. I didn't secure the oil feed tube to the homemade bracket and it cracked. Now i have it secured firmly.

You don't know where i can find the manual for 617NA 1979 do you? Any idea which direction the oil pump shaft should spin from top looking down, counter clockwise?

Why does oil pressure affect the turbo? There is very little restriction inside a turbocharger and they have a large oil outlet. Pressure is a restriction to flow and the turbocharger has almost no restriction to flow on its outlet. The pressure is inside the oil system of the engine doesn't matter that much, the turbo just gets a feed line and dumps directly back to the pan (low resistance path).

Here is a link to the summarized Holset oil requirements. They are very specific on flow and pressure: www.benzforce.com/blogs/news/holsets-don-t-require-a-restrictor-yes-they-do. That comes directly from a Holset service manual.

T6? Lol. We speak the same language. I prefer the 15w-40 for warmer climates: less viscosity modifyer.
