Your videos ARE THE BEST!! I reached out to you before about the hydraulics above the passenger side windshield, but my power windows just stopped working so, those are next! I just made a short video- not as detailed as yours- about replacing the lower air seal. I'll upload it soon! Though, I am looking for a video on how to fix the window- mine is having trouble going up and down- my neighbor says it's the window regulator.... It's making an awful clicking noise and sometimes the window "falls" just enough to hear wind cooming through it.

that sounds like the regulator . Likely the teeth on the large pivot gear are stripped ,which would cause it to not stay all the way up . Could be the smaller drive gear too . Replacement of the regulator is likely the only fix unfortunately .

Another very informative vid! I was just going to ask how you change the door light out and BOOOM! you show how to remove the lens and get to the bulb. Going to replace with LED bulbs cuz mine are so dim.

The LEDs make a nice bright light when the door opens .. way better than the stock ones

How do you get the lid off the map pocket ? It seems to hang on at the door latch end - does that screw in the end tie it down?

great information. I had the window regulator replaced on my wife's SL320 recently. now the window on drivers side does not do the auto 1/2 inch drop as it is supposed to? The mechanic told her that there is something located right next to the window motor? that had do be damaged when the motor "blew up" first off the window had jumped out of the track it still went up and down properly just jammed half way up, secondly I did not know there was anything connected to the door latch that had anything to do with they auto drop on the windows>

there is a switch on the door handle latch that lets the window know you have opened the door, or closed it. since you replaced the regulator you should reset the window syncing ..make sure all doors ,trunk ,hood closed..turn key on and press and hold window up switch..keep holding 10 more seconds after window raises completely..press down and hold 10 seconds after window is all the way down..do both windows a few times... Then using the red roof raise/lower button...do the same raising and lowering the roof. except hold a further 20-30 seconds after top is all the way up, and all the way down. This should allow the windows and roof to all resync as to where "up" and "down " are. The window motor counts turns of the motor to determine if it is up or down, or in the "drop " position

As always , I enjoy your videos . They are very informative. Thank you for posting them . I have a 1995 R129 and a 1996 R129 . Even though they are similar, they are different too . How do you remove the long wood trim from the 1996 R129 doorpanel ? Can it be removed without taking off the doorpanel ? If it can , how do I take it off, without damaging it ? I've Googled to find this information but haven't found it . Thank you again for the great videos.

I believe the doorpanel has to come off and there are compression press washers on the back that push onto studs on the wood trim strip . It wouldnt come off with the door panel on

Nice detail on the panel removal. I want to replace the two Bose speakers on the passenger side. I have a 2001 SL. I was hoping that there was a way to simply remove the cloth panel covering the speaker and avoid removing the entire panel. Is that something that can be done on the 2001?

great video, I need to remove door panel on passenger side. the window will not roll down, it all the way up. I hear the motor. I bought the car used. I don't know if someone disconnected something from the motor to the window. you mentioned a micro switch.... and said it tells window to go up or down. I wonder if this could be the issue. do you have a video on replacement of this switch???? thanks

Raul Romo the micro switch is on the bottom of the inside of the door.. it's basically a rubber pad that the window touches when down...the roof controller reads this as either up or down...if the switch shows anything other than up..it will lower the window when the roof is actuated..the window switches over ride it..

As far as heat going thru the doors my guess would be to keep the interior of the door more dry. All makes allow water to get by the window "seals" so why not minimize corrosion to speakers and the other electronics. Sorry if already mentioned but wasn't going to read all the comments. I noticed the vents myself but never really thought more about it after seeing it the first time. Watching your video made it click for some reason in my memory- don't know if correct but will ask a few people.

@@billclark8241 i think so. I've heard many other guesses as well. keep door panel warm, keep window lubricant from getting sticky, locks from freezing , All possibilities.. An enigma..lol

I’m having an issue with the door handle on my 99 SL. It’s slightly loose, not terrible but just enough to piss you off. Since you’ve had a bunch of these panels off I’m wondering if you know how difficult it is to access the door handle to tighten it? I’m assuming it’s a screw or nut that just needs tightening?

Which year is this from? Have a 93 R129 here and these damn hinges on the map boxes under the arm rest are broken.. Looks very similar to yours. Are you parting that car out?

yes I am...but these ones are broken as well...most of them are..they screw into the hinge piece from behind the door panel and the plastic rods they screw onto break very easily...the dealer fix is to either replace (over $400 parts labor) or put a few wide headed black screws through from the front,which is what you will see on most of the SLs out there

grease the flat bar going into the door around the midpoint between the upper and lower hinges. It's the friction door holder. When not lubricated it will make the door hard to open and close

These door panels and the vacuum locked door pockets are a pain and fiddly to repair. My car has several botched repairs on broken hinges glued back with Aruldite and now really difficult to remove and do a proper repair job with new hinges. I guess the door heating stuff is maintain as dry a door interior as possible. It's a small effort to cut down condensation.
