What I didn't love was the $70,800 window sticker price (non-negotiable / "no-haggling"). For all of you who complain about todays cars not having this much technology... Keep in mind that this car cost about 100.000 DM fully equipped in 1998, which approximately is around 70.000€ in todays money. This is also just a video handbook, so of course they are gonna show a fully equipped W220, to show off all the features. The S-Class Was always meant to be a luxury vehicle, so don't expect your 15.000$ 2021 Honda Civic to have similar technology and features, because it isn't going to happen in this price segment.

Don't fall for what you hear online and what some mechanics try and sell you. I have yet to experience something as ridiculous as that which is being pushed around like some sort of fact by people who probably never even owned a benz before. Like I said, I have yet to experience that myself, meaning it's not true.

I can't resist this. I was just purging my email junk when I noticed a reply to my dilemma from two years ago. For background, scroll down. This may prove to be amusing to some. The poster who mentioned the ignition system came the closest to an accurate diagnosis. I had noticed there was an error in the electronic ignition when I scanned it. But I dismissed this since every Mercedes Techie I took it to never came close to that. Except on one occasion, a local guy here advised me that when he used the other set of keys, it seemed to scare the gremlins away for awhile. Ok.. So here it is: After spending thousands of dollars in useless labor, part fraud, time and cold hard tax paid cash and crying in my beer... One day I noticed that when I pressed the key fob button to unlock the doors, the little red diode on top of the fob was failing to light up. Aha.. Watson.. I think we're onto something. Fast forward pulling the key fob apart and replacing the battery.. Drum roll please. Investment - $4 and the time it took to replace the key fob batteries. Stop laughing : (

Total nostalgia, man! I drove a ‘94 C-Class sedan in high school. This was the era of Mercedes-Benz in its prime. Like the 80s such as the older 190e and 300 series sedans. Goated! They really don’t make Benz cars like they used to! 💯👌❤️

I remember when I was in high school and read every magazine review on this car. It was my dream car. Recently I got a 10 year old Peugeot 407 coupe and it was so cheap while doing most of what the S class does. Only they did it 10 years before the 407. S-Class, always the leader.

This car is awesome if you can maintain it just like any other car. I have 160,000 on my 2000 S430, everything works and still drives like a dream. I just fixed the airmatic struts at 160,000 miles and the rest of the suspension is solid. It's the easiest car to work on and maintain. Those of you talking about it being unreliable have either never owned one or have no idea how to maintain a car. I can tell you one thing, if you took it to the stealership for A or B service or repairs, You paid for it. This car is very reliable unless you're an idiot. Unfortunately you can't fix that.

@StealthyMonk You must be that high hanging intellectual fruit. You sound like a chump to me. I plan to drive it not sell it. If I can get a car that was originally around $90,000 for around $4000 and is easy to repair, I'll take it. You should check where your intellectual fruit is hanging. You must have already dropped and spoiled.
