Hello Nick, I'm in the UK and own a 2024 Facelift EQB 250+ AMG Line Prem Plus in MANUFAKTUR Patagonia Red. I was wondering how to turn off the autolocking feature on the car when it locks itself after 1 minute of the car being locked. Thanks
@npoleary13 күн бұрын
Hi! 👋 Ooo nice! Is this to keep it unlocked? From what I’ve seen with Mercedes in the UK, if you unlock the car and don’t open a door it’ll lock after a few mins. But to keep it unlocked, just open a door at least once after unlocking (it might just be the front doors as a heads up)

Flat no. I see a number of Tesla cars around, but I'm not at all sold on EV stuff. My mileage is low, so I don't mind filling up. I've never heard of a V8 spontaneously combusting sitting in a garage, and though gasoline fires are hard to put out, they are not anywhere nearly as hard to put out as a battery fire. As for global warming and ecology, putting an EV together is not ecologically cost-saving. (Once some jerk came up to me while I was sitting outdoors placidly smoking a cigarette just to explicitly ask me to stop.) I have considered a Jaguar F-Type convertible with a naturally aspirated V8, but there one might run into "rarity problems" for service. An LC 500 isn't super-good for city. All the above is opinion based on what I have heard, not studious research, not even dealer-offered test drives. For full EV's (battery only), my guess is that it's less costly to replace a V8 (drastic!) than it is to replace an EV battery bank, and gasoline is usually available within 1/2 mile everywhere, a five minute stop-and-go. Many major intersections have a small collection of gas stations. Even running out of gas somewhere between Las Vegas and L.A. , you can hitch rides and transport gas in a price-gouged can, or call AAA. A ten mile extension cord is probably not so easy. AAA: "I'm sorry sir, but we do not have portable charging available." I would imagine that a mileage (range) miscalculation on an EV road trip could turn into a multi-hour project. "Uh, yeah ... the nearest charging station for that type is XXX miles north, a long tow, and a bit out of your way. But, um ... there's a Motel 6 nearby where you can get some shut-eye. You're not the only EV I've towed." "Sorry, sir, but we don't work on EEEVEEE's here." It's not the same as upgrading a computer to the latest and handling compatibility issues. I kind of feel for you, Nick, having to cover hybrid models. I don't know, maybe they are, somehow, the wave of the future, but I am not sold on them at all.
@kencarruthers671412 күн бұрын
Yes most definitely. I have a hybrid GLA 250e and it’s the best ever, even with only around a 30 mile all-electric range. I think the answer to this question all boils down to what is the normal pattern of your regular driving. Probably not worth it for someone who does mostly long-distance and motorway journeys on a regular basis. For someone like me who does a fair amount of journeys locally, it’s a winner! Ken😊

Hey Nick another great vid! I bought our new CLE 300 in Australia back in May this year. It’s a brilliant car very comfortable & very luxurious. We’ve been on a couple of trips Nth to Brisbane about 1,800kms return. It just lopes along & only sips on the fuel. When we arrived in Brisbane about 900kms we still had over a third of a tank of fuel left. When I was first talking to Mercedes about the CLE I was told Mercedes Australia would not be importing any plug-in hybrids on any model - period! I was told if I wanted a Mercedes that drove on electric only I would have to buy a full EV, which if you want to go on a trip outside of a city is just impractical in Australia. I was pretty disappointed at the time, but given the fuel economy I’ve experienced above, I have to admit the extra cost of the plug-in hybrid version v the excellent fuel economy of the non plug-in, you would never get the extra cash you’ve invested in the purchase price back over the life of the car.
@npoleary11 күн бұрын
Ah awesome thanks for sharing! Interesting how some countries just point blank say no to a hybrid, wonder why they won’t be selling it compared to some others… But yeah with fuel economy like that, you can’t go wrong! Plus I’ve seen how big Aus is! It’s huge so if you’re doing a road trip might be better with the CLE 300
@besottedferrarista446610 күн бұрын
@ Mercedes Australia said there decision was based on past PHEV sales data, which was that next to no one bought any here as people were opting for an engine or full EV but not a PHEV. Anyhow apparently everyone that wanted a full EV has now got one & new EV sales are declining because the rest of us do long trips outside of cities & off the main expressways between cities

Excellent review as always and a lovely car! I have the same plug in combo in my C300e which I have run for 10months and it is excellent. I regularly achieve 60 plus miles on electric but really like the sport mode on long journeys as it is noticeably more punchy when on motorways. I assume the cle has air suspension on the rear the same as the c class saloon as this is a nice feature and as an added bonus with rear wheel drive is the weight of the batteries over the rear wheels should give more traction in icy conditions. Keep up the good work and excellently produced videos 😊

The major différence with a PHEV compared with a full EV is that it uses the gearbox : the Electric motor (called stator) is placed in the 9G-TRONIC gearbox, so it uses 4 gears. So the driving is sensibly like a pétrole car. A full EV doesn’t have a gear box so you don’t feel the change of gears, the torque is continuous. The 129HP are a bit insufficient for an heavy car Like that but it does the job perfectly for City driving. I drive a GLC 300de 2021 (13,5Kwh) and m’y wife drives an EQA 250. I consume 23kwh/100km and my wife around 20kwh. I can charge up to 7kwh on a wallbox or 22kwh on public charger, the EQA charges up to 110kwh on public charger. On this CLE the battery is 31,5Kwh so it is perfect for a versatile use. I strongly recommend the home charger so it can charge in 4 hours every night !
@npoleary12 күн бұрын
Very true! Although I have heard some EV’s (only a couple I know of) have a gearbox of such. The Porsche Taycan I believe from my limited knowledge has a two speed transmission and I’ve heard the next gen CLA next year will have two speed as well. Might have to research why on that one as you said, normally it’s just continuous!
@doodzy211 күн бұрын
Very interesting! Is this similar to what 'mild' hybrids are? Ive heard they are build into the gearbox, described as a beefy stop start machanism, but it doesn't make any sense to me mechanically?
@npoleary11 күн бұрын
Some of them don’t have a start motor but a starter generator. I don’t know from a technical placement where it is placed but I too do remember reading something that it was in a gearbox on a model somewhere.
@stephanejanda700910 күн бұрын
@@doodzy2 Yes it is similar to mild hybridation inherited from the F1 technology : putting a (small) electric engine in the gearbox allow a lot smoother transition from electric to gas - it is completely unnoticed while driving. The comfort is perfect. The small electric motor ("stator" as Mercedes call it) is not sufficient to give sufficient performance alone : but associated with the (fantastic) 9G-TRONIC gearbox, it does OK, but limited to 150km/h in electric mode only. The shifting of gears can be an issue in rare occasions, mostly in down-shifting situations, like in roundabouts while braking and trying to re-accelerate immediately : it can produce some delays of response. Otherwise it is a PERFECT solution for everyday commute. The best situation is when in SPORT mode ; the power of the electric motor is combined with the combustion engine and produce the 300hp and in some occasions engage the 4 motion : when it occurs it is brillant. Like starting on a green light, or from a toll. I adore this PEHV solution, it is versatile and practical.

Awesome vid as always Nick, one question thou, ive heard that when you have a hybrid car, is it true you have to toggle between petrol and electric usage after a while? Ive heard that if you only drive on electric, it might damage the car cus you never use the petrol. Is that true or false? I mostly use the electric motor as I rarely drive longer distances, but i do switch sometimes to use some petrol.
@npoleary13 күн бұрын
Thank you! 🙏 I don’t believe you would need to do it manually. Sadly I’ve not had a plug-in hybrid for months on end so can’t comment first hand, but I would have thought that the engine would turn on from time to time to allow movement of the engine and oils to recirculate etc. Probably once in a blue moon though!

Hi Nick….. great and informative brief. It’s interesting plug in hybrids are still being considered by manufacturers as options. My only criticism is that the interior - possibly seats aside is not as ‘pretty’ as my older E300 Cabrio. Hi Nick Thank you for the many years of excellent Mercedes content that you have provided, A year of two ago Mercedes announced they would join the Tesla network for charging the car first, in 2024 by providing an NACS adapter that would allow mercedes electric vehicles to access and use the Tesla charging stations and then build the NACS connector into its e-vehicles in 2025. Since it's now possible to build the EQS 580 SUV on the MBUSA website I built the car that I wanted and visited my local dealer in Las Vegas, Nevada and asked about the NACS connector. I found out that mercedes had not not yet made the switch that they indicated they would. This is a showstopper for me as so many of the non-Tesla chargers are broken or have charging issues. I'm wondering if you have any way of finding out when and if this change might happen. The local dealer here could not provide any information other than advising the the CCS connector is still being built into its 2025 EVs.

I’m presuming the contacts I have here focus on the UK stuff too so probably wouldn’t know the answer either :( really sorry I don’t know anyone in Germany to ask! Great shape. A car you own for two years to minimise your depreciation. Longer than that, depending on milage you come into the EV issues. The hybrid battery replacement cost. Would guess that is £6K. That implodes on the depreciation aspect on resale potential. Own it for 6/7 years and it would probably worth 10K if your lucky - Market depending. As a private buyer it would be interesting with a 3 / 4 L (no Hybrid element) So wait for an AMG version.
@npoleary13 күн бұрын
That’s probably about right but there again by the time you’d actually ever need to buy a battery, it would be that much cheaper anyway. Statistically speaking the price per kWh on a battery has gone down a lot over the last few years. The warranty on the battery on this car is 6 years anyway. Doesn’t mean it’ll stop working at 6 years but it should go on for many years after.

And btw, thanks for replying Nick. You're a true gent :)

Just had a look, oh yeah those look like Mercedes plates they use in their showrooms. Not sure where they get them from or if they make them in house… Nah it’s all good! 😊 I appreciate all types of feedback, seriously I do. I’m not one who ignores feedback from everyone on here. I read all comments and try to reply to as many as I can! It’s finding a balance especially for thumbnails to make them eye grabbing which also involves the plates now as some dealers want them blurred. And blurred just doesn’t look as good. It’s all good don’t worry! I would rather people be honest, I want to make the channel better and better over time 🤓🙏🤓
