My CLA will be 2 years old next year. I was looking at a GLC, X3 or Q5. As my wife would rather have an SUV. Even though she doesn’t actually drive. This new CLA may just be a contender though.

The only thing that always upsets me about manufactures is the finished car never looks like the concept. They always pair away many of the features of the concept. Hope this doesn’t happen here as it is a beautiful car.

Yes sadly concept cars always look incredible but by the time they make it to production, there’s safety, regulations, laws, aerodynamics and more than come into play. Although I certainly wouldn’t say no to the CLA Concept! It looks awesome!

Yeah when I saw it in person, I said to Mercedes that if they made that, I bet people would buy it! It does look quite smart! Although it is actually smaller in real life, I expected it to be bigger! We’ll have to see when they take those camo’s off!

Thank you! No sadly they didn’t mention anything like that. While I was there, there were A LOT of cars in camouflage. Phone had stickers on the lenses so I couldn’t take any photos or videos for obvious reasons. They’d probably kick me out or something 😅

Haha 😂 There’s spy shots online of it, however..that doesn’t mean it’s definitely happening. They’ll be testing cars all of the time with different variants and things. Could even be for different markets. I do want them to bring one out though! That would be nice! 👌🏼

I am headed into my local MB tomorrow to finalise a new GLC 300 DE with Airmatic and rear axle steering. I am essentially trading in a Tesla Model 3 that I own and going from fully electric to plug-in hybrid, but your video has got me thinking. Do you recommend waiting for this car to come out or going with the GLC top end?

@@npoleary ​ We do a few long road trips, and every summer we do a mega trip across the EU, which is approximately 13,000 to 14,000 km. In 2023, we did it in a Tesla; all things considered, it was great thanks to the Supercharger network, but you always have to stop to charge and you have charge anxiety. Over the course of the trip it adds up to a lot of time being spent charring. 

 In Jan 2024, we got the new E220d, and my word, that blew my mind in terms of range, fuel efficiency, and overall comfort. 4.3/100 L and 1,500 range on a full tank. 23-25 kms per litre of diesel was unreal for me. So thinking about switching to a plug-in is the GLC due to its largest range in any plug-in real tests of 110 km vs the 131 advertised by MB, and that should be enough for the day-to-day, and having the option of diesel for larger distances, and overall, MBs are much more comfortable than Teslas . Lastly, I trade cars in often, and MB diesels hold their value much better compared to electrics.

I heard that too, guess it was a rumour. I had considered making a video on it, there are still rumours circulating they’re discontinuing the A-Class so we’ll see. If I get any more concrete info on that, I’ll post about it!

Hi Nick. Firstly a really informative video, your one lucky chap getting to see all this development. I have to say the red concept cla to me it's too futuristic inside and not for my liking. However, the projected ev range is really impressive isn't it , not only that, the new 1.5 petrol engine sounds equally impressive along with the hybrid system. I know you said this is being developed by M benz but as mentioned I'd read it was being produced in China then finished off in Germany. Perhaps that was incorrect. Either will sell really well I reckon especially with the predicted returns. Cheers Nick

Hi Nick, I’ll keep an open mind. However, my first reaction is one of concern if there is going to be no true hybrid (PHEV) and only an option of a ‘mild' hybrid. I cannot see what is proposed will deliver much of an electric-only range being reliant on only regeneration. Ken

That would normally only happen if you use pre-entry climate control (via the app or via the key) if you have it enabled

I’m not sure why the heated seats would come on then. They do retain a memory setting for a few mins, like if quickly run into the shops and come back. But if you haven’t got pre-entry enabled by a time or pre-entry with key enabled not sure why it would do that. I’ve never come across a Mercedes that just randomly puts heated seats on…

The tech looks good but they need to put similar effort into the look of the cars. At present, the merc electric range looks very similar and appears to be styles on a bloated dolphin. I’m a merc fan and have recently purchased a CLE53 but didn’t go electric as they don’t have a elec coupe and they all look like family wagons.

I know what you’re referring to on the EV’s,they went hard on the aerodynamics which does wonders for vehicle range on electric though! Oh nice how are you finding the CLE 53?

@@npoleary love the CLE53, it’s a great car to drive. I’ve only done about 2500 miles in it but all good so far. The only disappointing aspect is the exhaust sound which is nothing like the European CLE53 or my old C43. I purchased the car after seeing your review and comments. 👍 Having to start the dash cam is also a bit annoying, it needs a shortcut on the screen (similar to the speed warning)

Glad you’re enjoying it, on a couple of models I’ve found there is a dashcam symbol top left which allows you to start it from there. If I remember it’s two clicks though

I'm literally getting 10x the info just watching channels like yours. That's at least 8-10 weeks of excruciatingly slow info drops. That's gonna kill the hype for this more than anything. If the camo was coming off in a month or less, I'd at least understand. To answer your question, no defo not 😂 I failed my GCSE’s the first year which was a wake up call. I had messed around in school not taking it seriously but after that I turned it around with AS Levels, going to work a full time job and the rest was history. There’s always models coming out on everything so don’t worry. Apple have just released their new MacBooks. I really want one but by the time I have some pennies saved the next one will be out 😅 Same for phones! Haha CLA is expected to be announced early next year, which based on previous launches probably will mean late next year before people take delivery of them. You could get it the year after (depending on how long you’re keeping yours)
