the menu in the middle of the speedo is the service menu. you can deactivate esp for dyno testing. i am not quite sure if your car goes better "off the line" as you say, when this function is deactivated. But the last menu is the service menu. when you select "service data" and push the button "next page" which is shown in the lower line you will see some numbers like "2,3,5,6,8,11,13" these numbers identify the periodic maintenance for your car. like 13 is oil change. you can see at the front in your handbook what maintenance belongs to which number. little tip if you accidentally confirm any maintenance, you can cancel it again. but only in the case you drove less then around 500 km. did you know that you can close all windows and roof by holding the recirculation button. ;)

sometime ago a friend returned my car and he somehow changed the door locking mode. It used to be exactly like you explain in your video. Hold down both buttons for 5 seconds to change from one setting to another. My car is reversed - pull on any of the 3 passenger door handles to open and gain entry. No entry from drivers door. So I have just spent 30 minutes to change the setting back and when I try to hold both buttons downs it just accepts 1 button command and locks or unlocks. My car is a 2006 E55 Sedan Australian delivered. Thanks again

Ali, for the windows/sunroof to remote open they have to be sync'd. to do this press down on window control when it reaches the bottom press it into second down position then press up and when it shuts press the up all the way part then release the window is now sync'd after all windows done the system works remotely.

Mine worked a couple of times on a couple of occasions. They changed the batteries and reset everything, They now think it is the sensor as it isn't working at all. They said it was $400 plus. To open the windows from inches away makes no sense. My 2001 BMW 530i would open it from 30 feet or more. That was truly useful. BTW, I live in Florida where this really matters.

My E350 2009 Mercedes ignition. When I turn the key to position 1, all the accessory lights come on. There was a time that position 1 only unlocked steering and gave juice to radio. Now it’s exactly the same as position 2. I seemed to have noticed this problem after a scan was done to reset ABS signal. Don’t know if it’s related.

I like you video, but the hidden menu on the ThermoTronic control unit are B/S. If you compare the actual outside temperature or oil/water temperature with the one that is being displayed you will see what I'm talking about. Same with speed and other data displayed.

I think ,the best way to reset the settings is to unplugg the battery cable (the + one or the - ....it doesn't matters). Another thing you should know : when your car doesn't recognise your key and you can't start the engine because of that, you have to do the same thing with the battery and it will work.

Yeah I know of a good one. Hold the button that circulate the air condition for about three seconds and it will turn on the air conditioner and close all windows open. Press it again and it will open any window that was open originally.

It doesn't make the car 'quicker off the line'. It just completely turns off ESP and Traction Control. It is used when testing the car on a roller bench.

+scully may I?. brilliant and reliable car. and take into account that this 6 cylinder runs up to 35 miles to a gallon. making smaller cars with less power and comfort fuel waster in comparison. recently sold my latest w210 (version 2001) engine and gearbox still super though, 200k miles. bought it 2010 with approx. 140kmiles. little electornic failures, worn out seats and rust added up to a point where I decided leaving to people with more spare time or those who have a close contact to Edd China :-; got now a w211 Avantgarde from August 2004 with 130k miles on the clock running fine. main point for making a decision whether w210 or w211 are 3 things: 1st applies to w210 and 210: these cars (especially the classic versions) are bought for distance in comfort, hence milage history is the key issue. almost nobody bought them for giving kids a lift to school only. 2nd w210 likes rust (esp. blisters on the roof and doors), w211 doesn't. w210 mileage can be altered easily on all control units, w211 mainly from MB insiders only. 3rd if w211 prior 2007 - make sure produced after May 2004. that's the deadline when MB finally adressed several problems with the electronics. if w211 after 2007 (more pricy though) than the extra battery for the brakes became obsolete which was said causing problems ocassionally (not on mine). general guideline: a do not trust cars less than 150k miles (W210) or less than 100k miles (w211) except previous owner gives you a very very good reason back to the beginning. b limit the search on Auto Trader, ebay or else to a maximum of 2 pre-owners. yes the price will go up, but the risk of being framed declines. if tow-bar - ask what was dragged - a heavy boat? - double motor's milage burden! c basically mistrust history in paper and bills. although more trustworthy even checkbooks from MB may be fiddled with if not all from one branch you can visit too. owners of cars beyond 100k miles will have it serviced elsewhere than at MB's anyway because it is much cheaper. if they change the milage prior the first visit anywhere all following bills from there will reflect that false figure. sale contract: very important - make sure the seller commits himself to mileage run in writing! the only chance to sue him eventually or getting a reduction if been framed. how to control if doubts rising: visit the next MB service and get a readout of all control units (costs around 50 quid). fraudster mainly change the dashboard speed indicator only. the Diesel particel filter and other units do store the total milages too. MB will also give you the previous check list (xxxx days) where you may be able to gather the average milage between the service intervalls. e.g. latest service was from 2010 with 100k miles and you buy a car now with allegedly 120k miles raises my suspicion what that car was used for within the last 5 years (kids to school). and finally... never go cheap and buy the 270CDI.... far too "lame" in comparison. hope I could help. +scully Pure trouble. That's exactly how I'd put it. If you want this car, buy the facelift, cause the 2003-2006 had big problems. Let me tell you some of them that I encountered: burned SAM module in the trunk, water leak in the trunk, faulty EGR valve, battery problems(both of them), SBC problem(which would have cost me around $1300, but luckily the car had only 107000km(out of warranty) and all its services done in MercedesBenz Services, so they changed it for free - thumbs up for that). I can't think of them all right now, but hey, let me tell you Mercedes it's not what is used to be!

+BogdanDorianC well, you are not saying whether you had a new car or a used one. either or, - can't think of any other brand changing such an expensive part beyond the sell by date. A water leak in the trunk in a car makes me rather think of a car with a hidden (and messy fixed) accident history.

+Wayne Shorter first of all the car wasn't new, but also the car wasn't involved in any accidents(none whatsoever - and believe me I'm very skeptical when it comes to this stuff). Secondly the problem with leaks in trunk is a very common problem, and if you search the forums you will find a lot of people who have it. Regarding the SBC module changing for free, when I was at the MB dealer, first thing they need was to see the service book of the car. At that moment I didn't know what they were thinking, but I was very happy that they change the SBC for free. It was a common defect on w211( I don't remember upon which year though) models and Mercedes acknowledged and assumed it, that is why the change was made for free. Unlike, for example, BMWs, which have their variable air intake manifold valves break and f**k up the engine. This is also an E39 and E60 known issue, but BMW never assumed it.

(1) Does Air Circ Mode stay on 'forever', or does it go to 'non-circulation' after some time? (2) I assume that you only switch on your AC when your car-interior is uncomfortably hot / cold? If the answer to both questions are "Yes", then this is what happens: The ACs on Mercs (and some other cars) are set to think 'Get this car-interior to desired temp asap'. To do so, it then initially takes / re-circ the small amount of air that is in the car-interior (compared to big amount of air outside the car), recirculating such air continuously until it gets to your requested / desired / set temp. Once it is happy that this small pocket of air inside the car is 'within your temp-range' (and that the engine has warmed up sufficiently), it will automatically switch of the recirc and instead suck fresh air from outside. (BTW: Even if you deliberately set AC recirc on a Merc, it will itself, after some time, say 'to heck with you' and switch itself to sucking fresh air. Merc has done so for your own health and to ensure that you stay awake by taking in 'fresh' air.) Trust that this helps in you enjoying the best vehicle-make in the world!

+marywalsh hennessy 2 possibilites you hear the motor running: a plastic gear is broken, replace because fixeing with clue will not cope with the friction on it. or the whole shaft has detached. if not: pins on the ciruit board attached to the motor (upper right corner) are broken. very thin and fragile. needs soldering. open the backside: 2 screws (Torx) on the bottom right and left to open the seats back. on some leather version screws or below teh seats. hope I could help Wayne

Well, Mercedes had some electronic issues during those years that - some say - is not Benz-worthy. On the other hand, the cars are VERY comfortable. I'd stay away from the bad ones and buy a proper dealer-maintained Benz if I were you! Have fun shopping :D

+musa mu no, if you open your trunk, you Will see the trunk hinges covered by Black plastic, there inside are your cables for the 3th brake light, license plate light etc.. and that cable is wedged. I hate the same problem

Maybe if it is US spec the feature is not enabled. I think that happens quite often in many car makes, don't know why. I live in Mexico and we get a mix of Euro and US specs car here since norms are very lax. My Volvo S60 had rear fog lights and could turn on Low beams/High beams and front fog lights at the same time (just like an euro spec car) but didn't have the opening windows function enabled.

Gene V you need to do it from the navigation.Just go into settings then go into the time section and you will be able to change it

StreetBl8s Check yr manual but the resent button is not easy to see as its on the left side of the console obscured by the Steering wheel is a small button that can be pushed or turned. THat is what 'sets' or confirms the time once you adjust from the dial (dash screen) using the up and down functions on the steering wheel.

+Pattttt0406 370.000 km on my 05 e220 i own it since 7 years now and i have changed the sbc module for free, the turbine , steering pump ( for dumb reasons) and now i'm having some weird problems on my transmission ( getting stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear and in limp mode) wich i will see in the next days. i must say that i am in love with the w211 series and i'm planinng to get a facelift model!

+tom gjeka wow considering the kilometres, those problems are to be expected in any car. But since the w211 was such a computerised car many still think they're nightmares to own! It's just not true though, the w211 started my obsession with Mercedes, it's one of the great cars.

I prefer BMW myself but at least I am realistic. There is a reason Mercedes is used as a Taxi. It's luxurious inside, so it's nice for the customer. And also, Mercedes is way reliable in long term.
