I got one of the first few EQC that have dribbled into New Zealand. Having driven a Hyundai Kona EV for a year, I am not exactly new to the EV scene. Unfortunately, the Kona gave us so many quibbles and niggles that we were not prepared to keep it. The EQC does not have the same mileage, as pointed out in this review - but: here's a little surprise. We set out on a 160km drive from Auckland to Whangarei. As we left, the EQC said we had a range of 250km in the battery. When we arrived, we still had 120 km's worth of charge remaining. Do the math. And, don't think we were in eco mode - in fact we drove it in sport mode much of the way and with 'regain' turned down as far as it went. What a nice surprise indeed. Yes the rose gold air vents that every reviewer seems to get hung up on. Tell the truth - you hardly notice them. I was expecting gauche-ness extraordinaire from the reviews, but it just blends in. Hardly see it. The cream coloured leather seats we ordered certainly do not generate any claustrophobia, but we haven't put my 6'2 brother in law into the back seat yet. Conclusion: you get into this car, and you drive it. No fuss, no muss. Road holding is excellent, if, where and when we need performance it is/was staggering. (The Kona displayed horrid under-steering at times, by the bye.) I fondly remember my Volvo 850 where, when you started overtaking at 80km/h you passed the bonnet of the overtakee at 120 km/h -- well this car has more get up and go than that, even if it may not feel as racy as an ipace (which I never got to lay eyes on, unfortunately). It certainly drives harder, has a more immediate feel to it than the Audi e-tron we took for a spin that had more of a 'swaying barge' kind of feel to it. (don't get me wrong, it's a wonderfully well equipped car, too). I actually like that the Merc is a bit more subdued inside. The bells and whistles are not in-your-face. And I won't hesitate to mention that I saved easily 10 grand plus compared to a similarly accessoried Audi or Jag, here in NZ. That was a pleasant surprise as well. May not apply in Britain or North America ....

We have one of these from new in 2023. Let me start by saying you don’t now get the augment satnav or the Burminster sound system. Unfortunately no one tells you this while we waited 3 months for the car. But and this is a big one after driving so many new cars over all my years this EQC drives fantastic. It is so quiet and so smooth, yes there are things I would change but over all a brilliant car. I charge it over night at home and it costs around 3.60 for half a charge if you dead flat. The wheels are a nightmare to clean, go ahead a try it lol. Range is terrible in the winter as we all know, summer get back to near 240m. I love driving this car.

Great review as always. How long does it take to charge on a 3 pin plug ? Not sure why most of these manufacturers are going for the upper end of the market with their first ev offerings, perhaps because they cannot supply enough cars (batteries) if there was serious demand at the lower price ranges?
@robsmith1a5 жыл бұрын
If it is 80 kwh battery then 80/2.4= 33 hours 20 minutes on a 3 pin plug. Not that you ever plug in empty and fill up at home. I have a Zoe and top it up for a couple of hours a few times a week from a 7.2 kw wall box (not inconvenient because it would be sitting there anyway). I do use the three pin plug if I am staying the night somewhere with a socket though. There is more demand than cars at the lower price ranges but hard to tell how much extra demand because so few cars are made.

Very annoying and misleading to always mention that for an EV it takes 8 to 11 hours to charge at home from 0 to full battery. Do you arrive at home with a petrol or diesel car always with an empty tank? Or do you have a full tank when you leave in the morning? NO you do not, so why would it be any different with an EV?!
@pip54615 жыл бұрын
The centre console doesn`t blend in very well with the vents, (the bit you could wobble),it looks very untidy. Plus NO wireless charging, what a let down for the price. You might expect that on something like a Dacia, but you could probably buy 10 of them for the price.
