Mercedes G-Class Production in Austria
The G-Class is assembled in Graz on a special conveyor. Unlike other auto assembly plants, Graz uses almost no robots, and almost all welding is done by hand. The buff G-Wagen seems to have been assembled by skilled craftsmen who can be justifiably proud of their work. The plant is not part of the Mercedes plant network; rather, it's run by Magna Steyr, a Canadian company that also contracts with Mini to build some of their cars on a significantly more advanced assembly line.

You might need one in Africa, but im the USA, the only use is for snow and dirt roads, but they are mainly show off Benz's for the rich simply to show others which benz they could afford. Other than that, this car is not for comfort and daily driving.

I previously watched how the Ineos Grenadier is assembled. Not a human in sight during the BIW assembly phase. Most of the work is performed by Kuka robots. The G Class factory on the other hand looks straight out of the 1970’s. It’s a very labor intensive assembly plant with factory workers still doing hazardous and repetitive welding work.

What not many people seem to know is that the basic design of this car is from 1979 and has only been changed slightly, but more and more electronics etc. have been installed. The production quantities are also not high. All this does not necessarily favor automation. The people at Magna are certainly smart enough, as they build for enough brands other than Mercedes, to know when robots are worthwhile and when they are not.

Культовая, но с кучей косяков…не удобная на дороге, ржавеющая везде, двери закрываются с таким позорным звуком, лобовое вообще расходник… ну да брутальная, проходимая, вместительная, вообщем мне никогда не хотел ее. This video is very old. If you look at the end, the G waggon model is from 2012 until 2017. The new assembly line from now, 2023 is way different.

Wish they showed the access panel for the jack under the seat. Its plywood, very nice cabinet grade stained black, but its plywood, where is the guy ripping squares of plywood with a circular saw and 2 old saw horses. When I was looking over my g63 it stood out as something so old school

The failed Mercedes X-Class failed because everyone knew it was just a Nissan Navara underneath the skin, trying to sell at a 25% premium price. The new VW Amarok pickup is a Ford through and through. All of VW’s other brands, such as Skoda, the Spanish one whose name I temporarily forget, and different models in their respective ranges all share the same platform and drivetrain and are basically sophisticated badge engineering. JLR used Ford engines across the range for a few years and still use Ford V8 engines or is it BMW once more? The RR Evoque and LR Discovery Sport are both made at the old Liverpool Ford factory that one made the Escort and Ford still have half the site where their Getrag gearbox manufacturing takes place. Judge a product on its merits not on its badge.
