This is the best information I've ever found on the internet!!! I could see that the top of the key should come apart, but couldn't work out how to get it apart! You are brilliant and a very generous person to take the time to make the video clip! Thank you sooo very much!!

Great video, how can anyone dislike this super clear video. Just a tip if others have this issue my contacts weren't great even after a new battery I had issues, using some WD40/CRC I cleaned the inner and outer contacts and inside the fob where the + & - terminals make contact, now it's like new.

@@alexludlam2313 It's dead simple, you look at the existing batteries and get two replacement ones. If you are really smart you can check the description of the video, which states CR2025 batteries ;-)

You have saved my day with this. Dropped keys in a puddle -soaked. Had to walk home thinking the worse, key key fob etc. Found your vid, took key fob apart now slowly drying out. Will give it some new batteries as well. I just hope my attempt at getting the fob to work by pressing the buttons whilst it was wet hasn't damaged the circuit board. Many thanks again 👋👍

I have been looking for a new key fob for my E240 as the buttons are slightly warped and although I can see some on ebay, they have an additional panic button and the emergency key is not visible at the end as it is on my original key fob. Do you know what is involved in changing the circuitry to a new one involves, is it as simple as changing the battery as in your video. BTW, great video and channel

***** So I changed the batteries in the remote, but, I'm still not able to get it to work the way it's supposed to. The reason I changed the batteries was because I couldn't get my car to unlock unless I pointed the front of the remote directly at the IR receiver on the door handle at a distance of not more than an inch or two. Still getting the same issue even after changing the batteries...

Naveed Khan Were the new batteries good quality ones? Sometimes if you buy cheap ones they are not so good. I'd try a new pair of batteries and if it's still not working you might need to take it to a Mercedes specialist to find out if it's the key fob or the receiver that is faulty.

Thanks very much for this. I have been leaving the doors unlocked for six years. Even at concerts and busy downtown areas. No one has even tried to open the door once in all that time. I know because the passenger door unlocks when the driver door is opened. Now I can use the fob again. yay!

Good work. The manufacturers try and make it more complex than it needs to be. The emergency key is simple enough. But to remove the battery there is a small catch inside!! WTF. I'd never have thought. And there I was going to use a thin blade to try and seperate the key fob!!. Thank you for the video.

It might be jammed with dirt, you could try squirting in some WD-40 or similar.

I changed my key batteries. And it still doesnt work. Could it be that it lost the right frequency? I have a second key and when i change the insides the right one still works . So the battery should be fine. I guess the old key electric inside maybe damaged? When i press the buttons the key led light up for a sec. So it send a sign, but not the right one what the car requires. Is it a way to reprogram it to send the right sign?

Is it true that if you don't get the new batteries in the key fob in a set amount of time that the key locks you out and you have to go to Mercedes and get your car re-keyed? I was told this by someone in Halfords, and I don't want to attempt this if indeed what I was told is true. Can you enlighten me please? Many thanks.

+Janet Williams I don't think that is true to be honest, but I'm not 100% certain.I know that when the battery is flat the keyfob will not open the doors, you have to use the metal key. But once inside the engine will still start using the key with the flat battery. I'm pretty sure he is wrong though. It is a quick job replacing the batteries ;-)

Tom K You are welcome ;-) I don't know much about replacement keys other than you can buy blank ones but they need programming to your vehicle, I do not know how easy this is or if it can be done without special knowledge. I bought my spare key from the main Mercedes dealer, I had to take in my log book and the key was ready for collection the next day. I can't remember the exact price but think it was about £150 - £200

Hi. I changed the battery exactly as you said but it’s still not working. The +are facing upwards for both. The led light is not coming on. Or opening the doors. Could it be that I left it too long before changing the battery and now need to computerise it with my car.

If the Led light is not coming on, I would first check that the batteries are not faulty. If the batteries are good, the key fob is probably faulty. I'm not sure how long it takes for the key to lose it's code- but I would imagine the code would be stored indefinitely in the key, regardless of the batteries being flat.
