Mercedes ML320 350 430 500 ML55 W163 throttle body cleaning and gasket replacement DIY

How to replace gaskets on ML 320, ML350, ML500 throttle body gaskets and clean the throttle body at the same time by safely removing. Job is easy but needs patience, should take roughly 2 hours or so. Thanks for watching.

Nice job, thanks. I checked my trip computer (ML 350 2003 ) with measured distance and fuel used and I discovered that mine tells many lies, inconsistent lies, and reads high and low, wildly. This was on a 1600km trip , so I had plenty of data.

I just did this job and its was super easy. Glad I watched the video beforehand. One thing that helped me was that I put a big (plastic) mirror against the firewall that help see behind the engine. I took the time to replace a few dried out/dry rotted vacuum hoses on the solenoid, also unclogged the clogged vacuum port that the brake booster vacuum line goes to near the throttle body. Cleaned the throttle body and put it all back together. Instead of RTV on the gasket, I just coated it with silicone grease as Silicone grease won’t harm it like petroleum based grease would and it stuck to the gasket groove like a charm, so thanks for the tip on that. Now, on to the to the leaking valve cover breather gaskets.

Thank you for showing this. It looks like a bit of a pain to do, it being round the back and all, but I'll give it a go when I do a service in the summer. Mine is a 2002 ML320 with 180k on it, and she still runs lovely. As an aside, I use an old shaving mirror to see down in awkward places. It gives a bigger field of view.

That's a good idea mate! I'll try that in future myself. It's not too bad of a job. Mine is 3.7lt v6 with 188k and the previous owner did not look after it that well so I have a lot of things to clean and sort out. It did make a huge difference for me, now I am down to using 14lt for 100km in mountain driving conditions. Cheers

@@gasNgears yep. I live on the island currently. My ML just spit out the centre support bearing yesterday at 330k. I thought it was the wheel bearing making noise. I daily mine all seasons. It’s great.

Very good video, it guided me to clean up my throttle body. My 2004 ML350 (120k miles only) has very rough idling and engine stalling with code P0120, the RPM goes up to 3000 and down to 0 quickly at idle, sometimes it completely loses response to gas pedal but then resumes without doing anything. I cleaned up the throttle body and the connectors but it doesn't seem to help. Now it throws a new code P0101 which is about MAF performance so I replaced the MAF sensor with a used one from junkyard (exactly the same part number) but this doesn't help the P0101 either. I can't believe both the throttle body and the MAF sensor failed at the same time, what common part do they share? I suspected grounding points but cleaning up all the grounding points on the firewall didn't make any difference either. I'm stuck here now, do you have any idea about it please?

Hey bud, I would look for perished vacuum lines/ hoses first or better yet just replace them anyway. They are super cheap and a lot of times those can cause rough idle. It could also be a spark plug issue or ignition coils on their way out. Easiest bet would be to start with the cheapest option which is replacing the vacuum hoses, then check your spark plus or test your coils. Hope it helps. Good luck.

Hey bud, not sure if you tried taking off the coolant reservoir or not yet but I was wondering that it might give you a bit more room to get your hands around it. Is it not lining up, seating issues or limited space making it challenging?
