Mercedes' moving steering wheel: What is DAS and how does it work?

At Barcelona testing, Mercedes unveiled a new moving steering wheel setup, known as DAS. But how does Mercedes' DAS system fit in the car? We take a look at some of the structural changes Mercedes have made, not only to improve on their current setup but also accommodate their latest innovation.

The one at 2:01 still doesn't make sense, especially when combined with the voiceover... Graphic shows Toe In, followed by Neutral Toe, rather than Toe Out then Neutral Toe. At least the steering wheel agrees with the wheel Toe this time. I appreciate the effort, but a second animator achieving escape velocity isn't going to fix the issue. How about having one of your technical writers or editors reviewing the video before uploading? It's less than 5 minutes of their day and they are in the engineering know, so should catch this stuff. I realize this is clearly a nuisance (as am I for pointing it out for the second time), but you're providing technical information to people. In some cases, Autosport will be the only F1/Motorsport KZbin channel they follow for extra info outside of the TV coverage. Therefore the technical details should be correct.

You'd think it'd be possible to create a non linear mechanical steering rack that gives no toe on the straight and toe out when turned. Now that DAS is banned since it's a moveable aerodynamic, I bet this mechanical idea will appear on their 2021 car.

If hydraulic suspension is to be outlawed, that's probably at least partially why they're switching back ahead of time, so it's one fewer things they have to sort come 2021.

I fail to see how this doesn't break the rules as a 'movable aerodynamic device' the renault tuned mass damper was banned for being one despite being inside the bodywork. It was ruled that was a moveable device as it moved, and had an impact (however coincidental) on aerodynamics. Surely the change in aerodynamic profile from changing the toe angle is enough to constitute a 'movable aerodynamic device' Unless the rules make an exception (why) it should surely be banned???????

Cant wait to see the new fan can that Gordon Murray design is about to sell. Similar layout to the F1 but way more power. Better systems and much lighter is what he is promising. It will, I am sure have amazing performance even in this world of amazing performance - I hope it is beautiful too
