Unrelated to this video but Just wanted to share some issues with my car, which is the same model you've featured. It sat all winter without a battery maintainer and ended up sinking on the passenger side. When I started it back up, it rose fine, but it triggered a white ABC light. I noticed when I pressed the ABC button, the rear nearside shock only moved slightly. I took it to a local independent dealer. They told me all the ride height settings were lost, which was new to them as they hadn't encountered these codes before. They manually restored the settings and put in the ride height settings (manually aparently), but now I've noticed that the rear near side is higher than the offside rear, though there are no warning lights or codes displayed. Would love to get your input or if you've dealt with a similar issue!

Hi - it is not unusual for that to happen. Did you watch the video I did on the subject of calibrating the suspension? kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4rJk62bd7-inrM I will be doing another suspension video in due course because I want to put adjustable suspension links on the car which allows you both to lower the car AND to make adjustments to the height of each corner if your car is not sitting level. Over time the ride height sensors in the struts (see kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3anhZubZZV1eck) and also the sensors by the wheels wear out which can lead to the problem you have. The problem I have at present, is that my expensive scanner has a software bug which is not allowing me to manually calibrate the suspension. Coincidentally a scanner company reached out to the channel recently, and asked me to review their new scanner. I agreed to do a review provided it did not have this bug....so watch this space. Mike

Yes - it doesn't match up. He only has parts from a R230 which has a different finish. Mike

Hey man I'm about to purchase a sl55 the week with a battery drain the owner says he can pull the radio fuse and stop it, how might I get in contact with you further?

These low viscosity oils are there for cold start emissions and not engine longevity.

According to the technical directors at the oil manufacturers I spoke to prior to making this video, it is a common misconception that low viscosity oils offer lower protection....maybe I'll touch on this in the next 'Oil Analysis' video. Mike

@@MikesMercsandothercars The issue is the film strength, with lower viscosity oil the film strength and thickness lowers under high heat and stress, leading to more friction and wear. An extreme example are the new 0W-20 oil where when heated it has less viscosity than water. I have owned many K113 and M112/M113 engine, and these engine go very well with higher viscocity.

@@cav4290 ....at the risk of entering a minefield with my favourite subscriber.... The operating temperature of the engine, should never get beyond the level at which the viscosity of the recommended oil gets below what is recommended. If you have an engine with a tighter clearance such as the M113k and use an oil with a higher viscosity range, the oil will cause frictional drag. You will reduce horse power and fuel economy and increase heat. The majority of friction and wear occurs when the engine is cold and low viscosity oils are specifically designed to combat this. Film strength and film thickness are 2 different things - the former is the oils ability to lessen the effects of friction and wear by means other than the film thickness eg the base oil and additive chemistry. Viscosity is indeed he primary contributor to film thickness but....the required film thickness is dependent on engine tolerances etc. Always happy to read the source material of what you are saying. You should go up with the viscosity, 10W50 or 15W50.

Interesting....I'm not sure I would risk using 10W or 15W on an AMG engine. Maybe 5W....but Mercedes, AMG Academy and Mobil etc all recommend 0W/40. Incidentally, just had back the oil analysis results on the SL55, Pagoda and the R107 I am working on which will be subject of next video. One of the things that prompted me to get an oil analysis was your link to the failed O ring on the M113k engines causing coolant in the engine oil....and eventually a dead engine. Mike
