Nice to see you got a well prepared replacement sub frame. The red wishbones are great. Pleased to see your progress. Very helpful for when I tackle mine 👍

Great video. Just got mine done this week. As someone said in the comments, there is no need to remove the speed sensors, just unplug the sensor wires behind splash screen. Also very important that you raise the wheel to riding height before you tighten the suspension bolts.
@MarkGeorgeFantasticAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ben. I was originally looking for a way to unplug the speed sensor but I was afraid that I would break the connector. Instead, I broke the bolt. lol I never thought about raising the wheel before tightening the suspension bolts. I had an alignment done after this. Hopefully it will be good. Thanks for the comment.

Anyone with rear subframe corrosion is covered under a 20 year warranty unlimited mileage , free replacement, due to a class action lawsuit against them

Thanks soo much for this Vlog. I was wondering what belly parts are attached to the rear subfram My new to me 2013/C300 had a recall back in 2014. Preowner neglected to turn in the subframe issue. Now, we got a mech. to replace it cause it rusted and broke. Dealer never returned my calls. Stealership, will not up hold old recalls in USA, NOT worth the headache dealership will give you.

If you watch the videos on this you will e=see every bolt that needs removed to replace it. I thought it was going to be a more difficult job but it really wasn't too bad. Ya, that's a bummer about the dealer.

Is it original Mercedes part restored by Benzeen or a used and restored aftermarket part? I did not understand that part. Never mind. I looked up Benzeen. OEM restored. Probably better than it was from the factory. Great find!

So if a subframe needed replaced, is it recommended to have it treated in some way in order to prevent the corrosion issue from happening again? what should the treatment be with if any? Thank you.
@MarkGeorgeFantasticAdventures2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. I am just hoping that the new subframe outlasts the rest of the car. I figured if the old one lasted for 200k miles and the new one lasts for another 200k miles the rest of the car will be junk by then. I suppose you could get it undercoated before installing it. I guess I never thought about it.

Dear Mark Sorry to bother you, but I have a question. How much torque do I need to tighten the bolts on the front subframe? Thank you in advance. I have Mercedes Benz W212 E220 CDI BlueEFF
@MarkGeorgeFantasticAdventures9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, I don't know the torque specs for that. There must be something on the internet if you do a Google search for it.

Wonder have you removed your cars rear heat deflector/aluminum heat sheilds and is it necessary to have them?
@MarkGeorgeFantasticAdventures2 жыл бұрын
I don't remember any heat shields. Are you talking about the ones that are up against the floor boards? I did not remove anything like that.

Is this happening in regions where they use salt in winter, or is it widespread?
@MarkGeorgeFantasticAdventures Жыл бұрын
As far as I know it's only in areas where they salt.

Hi Mark, did you also drain the differential?
@MarkGeorgeFantasticAdventures Жыл бұрын
No. That would have been a good idea while I had it out. I should probably do that even now. Not sure why I didn't think to do that. In a hurry to get it back together I guess.

@@rayhoughton8046 I’m having my 2010 C300 towed back home from the dealership in the morning. I opened a case with MB USA and they refused to replace the subframe saying the car was out of warranty. It has the exact same failure as the subject car of this video. Dealer wanted $5717.76 to replace it. I’ve already ordered a new subframe off ebay and thank goodness for this video series. I’ll be replacing it myself. For less than $1,100.

Mercedes uk are repairing them free of charge under goodwill as they are rotting from inside out and they know full well this is an issue. I'd be going back to them and raising it with them with evidence of other vehicles all over the world with the exact same issue. The forums are full of this.
@Parknest Жыл бұрын
I'm in the same situation with my own W204. It is currently at a local UK dealer waiting for the warranty department to approve the free subframe replacement. Unfortunately the situation isn't the same in the USA. The suspension needs to be at normal ride height before the bolts are torqued up otherwise the bushes will be put under extra stress and will be destroyed.
