For those who are wondering why the filter came with so many o-rings - the smallest diameter O-ring is for the dipstick.

Nice work , I like your videos..I think though that you should always open the oil filter housing and lift up the filter before you drain the sump , not after. Otherwise oil is retained in the galleries and will not be drained , which then can also contribute to an overfilled condition. Also the engine needs a flush.

I am of the opinion that this is what 10k oil changes gets you, even if its manufacturer approved. My 300sdl book says 5k miles but i change it all at 3k, especially with over 200k on the clock

Way way too soon. But it depends on you driving, if you drive urban then maybe. Oil and filters have changed a lot since the days of recommended 3000m oil changes

They changed the oil but did not change the filter. Change oil and filter every 3k miles is excellent

Yes always unplugging slightly all filter like the other guy said so that oil can slowly pour down before you even open from the bottom

Think I'd be running some Seafoam thru the crank for the next few oil changes to try and clean that sludge out.

you need to drain 1quart of oil, or skip this step if it's low, then add 1qt of diesel or kerosene, idle for 15 mins then drain. I do this every oil change on every car it keeps the insides very clean.

One of the best W221 engine oil change videos I have seen so far. Very entertaining, very informative. Living in Germany, let me tell you: you should try to look for a different oil filter cap nut. There are multiple different sizes, but 2 that are the most common ones. Yours, that says VW on it, is the smaller of the two sizes. It should be sitting firmly but without any pressure needed to put it on. I own a W221 facelift with an M273 and by accident I bought the smaller one first as well. So, same learning curve here 😅 Wish you good look for flushing all the gunk out!

Good explanation of the dip stick range... I put 8.5 qts in a e550 coupe and it was just about perfect

thank you for your thoroughly prepared videos The thing is there is no need to be very precise and very worried yes I do have them 272 and 273 I normally pour 8 liters which is something like 9 quarts I don't worry if I put on a top level because after 2000 miles or so it's gonna use one liter or so about the sludge it's those criminal mechanic bustedrs they haven't changed the filter for long time that's about it buddy

Peter, when i get a new car, i always change the oil and filters, then i know its been done properly !! Also about 3 yrs ago i bought a SLK merc and when i looked into engine throo filler i cud c gunge clinging to all the cams etc. So i took off the rocker cover and cleaned it all by hand, flushed it through, did a couple of oil changes till i was happy with results !! I thot it had occurred by sitting inactive for a period in hot enviroment and that oil had dried out onto the engine parts ??

I can see the level good. The liquid makes this type of dipstick visible because the round shape makes the oil make the orange part look bigger and shows it's level. Will you speak about liquid moly products in a future video? I am surprised you will use a mastercraft filter this time and not one by mann at least. Perhaps they are less critical on german applications..

sir you should consider contacting the Mercedes dealer for a high mileage badge! Online there is a high mileage mercedes forum and when you fill it out and bring it to Mercedes they will mail you a free high mileage badge! The first badge is at 155k miles which you already surpassed.

I would have thought this would be a perfect candidate for an engine oil flush treatment? My mind is trying to think of reasons it was not included in the oil change?

Have you ever tried adding a qt of transmission oil to flush the motor. I have done it in sludged motors and it helps. I know people who have added a qt of diesel to remove sludge.

You brought back memories. Back in the 70's we used Chevron Pearl Kerosene. We had 5 gallon cans for sell. I remember it being used but don't remember the procedure. It was used to clean the rocker area using a part's brush.

@@Esteban_Herrera i have seen old fords that were sludge up bad we would drain the oid and fill the crank case with diesel till it poured out the valve covers and let it sit for a week. It worked well.

very good, alot of slugs. agree 1,000 miles changes for a while before hoing back to 3,000 miles. this 10,000 mile change is rubbish. did you check the airfilter that probably needs a change also.

I wonder too. The M272 and M273 engines have chronic chain stretch issues and balance shaft gear issues. I know it was only a certain production run, but even outside these runs, some engines are still having issues.

My s550 I change it every 5 k miles That’s MB filter and Mobil 1 synthetic.

Put a half can of Kreen into the oil and do another change in 1,000 miles.
