I am about to strip out my less than perfect conversion of a Citroen Relay L3H2, and now cannot wait to get started! I find the simplicity of your explanations perfect for a person of my skill level and am sure I can make a much better attempt in my future layout. Thank you very much for the inspiration and confidence building. Even though I don't have all the equipment you use I am sure I can do everything much neater and be happier with my finish!

Hi Greg, I'm about to start our new Ducato XL conversion so your videos have been really been helpful especially all the insulation & electrical calcs earlier in the series & now really enjoying the finishing stages. I'll be employing many of your ideas in our build. Being a plumber, I noticed you had a normal water seal trap included in the kitchen sink kit. I'd recommend using 1.25" or 1.5" Hepworth (Hep) or Osma self sealing Traps on any appliance as it uses a self closing siliconised rubber seal rather than a traditional 50-75mm water seal which can easily be lost with the stationary angle of the van & of course the movement of driving allowing foul smells of the waste pipe & grey water tank to vent back into the van. These traps can be fitted with the manufacturer's right angled knuckle bend which connects to the appliance converting it to horizontal where space is tight. Hope my tuppence worth helps you & fellow subscribers. Keep up the good work Greg.
@GregVirgoe
@GregVirgoe 5 жыл бұрын
That's a valid point when driving around the water could come out of the bottle trap. Think I will consider changing it to a HepvO and locate it in the vertical at the back of the cupboard freeing up valuable cupboard space.

Hi Greg, couldn’t help notice your fridge opens to left which I did with mine in almost same design setup. Found I couldn’t get the ice box/shelves out, so reversed door to open to the right where it opens fully to remove tray etc. Not ideal but works fine. Also not sure you needed top shelf above in case of gas leaks. As you say gas is heavier than air so would drop out anyway. Still one of the best conversions I’ve seen on KZbin mate. Great tips for novice builders. 👍
@GregVirgoe
@GregVirgoe 5 жыл бұрын
I noticed exactly the same as you the ice box will not come out. But having to lean over the door every single day will get old real fast. It looks like the icebox door separates from the shelf so will try that way. Two screws and the whole fridge pulls right out for major cleaning jobs.

Greg Virgoe your right Greg, but having a shed/workshop and having the build project on my drive would be an advantage but my camper is on a outdoor storage site some distance away, so if I forget to bring a tool or materials it's back home to get it. Can be a bit frustrating at times, live and learn I say.

greenthing one I do know what that’s like our van was 50mile round trip from where we were living so we could only work on it at weekend and that was when the weather was ok to open the van up. Hence why it took us 14months to build. 👍🏼😃

Greg Virgoe I'm quite lucky at the moment as I can work on mine at the weekends with school being only 5 days a week due to the virus, but come September I'm back too just one day a month to work on mine, as school will be back to a 7 day week. So I need to up the stakes(weather depending) I've been doing mine since September last year and I've only just finished the insulation and the wiring. Next job is the side and roof panles from morland from your recommendation this weekend so looking forward to fitting them.

Youre so lucky, i have a drill and jigsaw to work with. Love the colors and think silver would look nice in there for paint for some bling. I have bamboo cutting board but it splinters too much

The white is just an undercoat / primer sealer. They had two coats of satin black after this video was shot All now clad with the Zebrano furniture board same as the rest of the van. The router is my favourite tool you can do some much with them

Nice build as usual. Andn yes, the level of detail shown is encouraging. I particularly like the calmness and level of care you show. I'm a little surprised about the structure type. I'm doubtful that this type of structure will manage the mass at 20G which is what I believe the structural benchmark is for this stuff.
@GregVirgoe

The carcasses already are very strong, they are all screwed together and secured to the walls and floor. The end and side are over clad with 15mm furniture board, and it's all screwed to a solid wood countertop. Have you got further details for that standard you refer to?
@tmotten
@tmotten 5 жыл бұрын
@@GregVirgoe I haven't found a formal code but saw a reference about 20G being a norm. It's not a crazy figure on that in my mind. I struggle to accept that a wood frame would be able to withstand those loads. It seems the RV industry is largely unregulated so I believe it may be commercial fitout companies that are required to adhere to such a code. Lots of test vids on KZbin though and RV crash tests. Mostly in Germany and wood fitout doesn't seem to crash not. Did you see what I did there? ;-)

Greg, Many thanks for all the ideas a technical input. Many of the process you followed are going into our in flight van build. Watching the cabinet video made us think you lined the walls with 1/2' plywood? Did you kerf the back to get it to bend? For your Q&A requests: Please detail the sub-wall technique you used. TIA!

Top job Greg, starting to get used to it now! ;) You never looked at building a box fridge with a fridge? Seen it been used in a lot of sailing boats. Very energy efficient and can be reached if you hinge a part of the worktop.
@GregVirgoe
@GregVirgoe 5 жыл бұрын
I did look at them as they do tend to be cheaper, for me personally I find having to dig around for stuff at the bottom is not very practical, despite its very good energy ratings.

Hey Hreg another great video, any chance you could post your diagrams for building the kitchen, I’m looking at a similar oven to yours but don’t have the room to buy it and then build cabinets to fit, I have to to build first, being able to purchase oven and put it straight in would be a great help. Thanks.

Hi Greg, love your video, they very useful!!! I have a question.....why did you choose to buy that mini fridge? I checked and looks kind of expensive for a little fridge, any particular reason of your choice? Did you consider to buy a different one? Thanks a lot for your videos!!! Take care!

What a great idea, we have a spreadsheet of all the things you have to carry in your van to be legal in each country. Did you know you need spare glasses, breathalysers, spare bulbs, as well as the normal Hi Vis and triangles and first aid kit

Those extra legal things i would have overlooked for sure lol. The detail you put into your van is amazing. I'm a mechanic, and thats the sort of attention i'd give my running gear for such a long trip. Also giving a good week of driving locally as a shakedown test (even new parts can fail prematurely).

I see a lot of people cut a small vent into the van behind where the fridge is going to be located to solve the air flow issue. They often tend to have their propane bottle (if hidden in a cupboard) within the same carcass so that the vent is dual purpose. Keep up the good work Greg (with all the detail), great finish in everything you've done and helped me loads.

Hiya Greg. Just thought I'd say that our van build would look nothing like it does without your videos. I can't tell you how grateful we are! Quick question regarding the fixing of your kitchen units - how are they attached to the floor? Was thinking of using the adjustable legs used in household kitchens otherwise.
@GregVirgoe
@GregVirgoe 4 жыл бұрын
Jack Luker the caresses sir on the floor. So I took a short section of 2x2 timber. Screwed that’s to the floor then screwed the unit to it. The fridge unit is also screwed to the centre partition. They are all screwed to each other and all screwed to the wall and to the worktop. It does make a very strong set of cupboards when done.
