I almost took my car into the dealership to do this for me. I'm glad I looked for a video and found this one. Simple easy and instructive. I was worried about my nails!

Yes, this is an old thread. I have a 2000 E55 with a burnt out bulb in the climate console. Yes, it only takes one. The DIY keys to remove the console worked fine. Use care and caution on this step when removing the climate control unit so as to not bust anything. Ireplaced the 1.2W bulb and now I can see again in the dark! Thank you.

Just wanted to know if the replacement bulbs are a specific type of T5. I ordered a 10 pack set of 509T T5 TWIST LED Bulbs. I have also seen other T5 Leds with different numbers like PC74 and 5050. What type of LED would be a drop in replacement? Im planning to change ALL the illunimated switch bulbs in my W208.
@fupabox9 жыл бұрын
yes numbering on bulbs can be a bit of a pain in the butt. Most LEDs are numbered by the width of the push in base at the bottom where it plugs into the socket... A T10 would be 10mm wide a T5 5mm etc. the T5 twists have the built in base that just drops in and twists to lock it like the original, If you are planning to replace all the switch bulbs (windows, mirror etc, ) they require a bit of surgery , since they have a soldered in mini led ( 1-2mm bulb I believe) it can be done, and isn't hard, just time consuming to do them all... I did it for a guy last year and it took around 14 hours to replace all the tiny bulbs...wish I had filmed it... it does look very cool when they are all replaced

your w208 videos are the best! I want to change the yellow backlight color on my dash radio/climate control to white. do you think it would be possible to change out the backlight without destroying them?
@fupabox9 жыл бұрын
+Paul Cravey yes you can..I've swapped them on my R129
@pyrogenix199 жыл бұрын
+fupabox Thank you! This is the same bulb as the backlight for the LCD screens? Or just the buttons?
@fupabox9 жыл бұрын
Paul Cravey Only the screens..the buttons have individual tiny LEDs in them

Do those bulbs affect the visibility of the buttons, top and bottom, at night? I can barely see the screen day or night and really cannot see the buttons at night. I just got some led bulbs for my instrument cluster. I should try them on this unit. I have a 2001 e320. My unit looks identical to yours and is dual control.
@fupabox4 жыл бұрын
yeah , they aren't quite as bright as a regular bulb

Does anyone know if these modules are easy to replace? Mine doesn't seem to turn on. From what I heard. There may be some type of code? I plan on just getting a used one from the junkyard

Hello, again. I put the T5 LEDs in for the climate control unit but I don't like the uneven lighting (2 bright spots). I was wondering if you know of any omni-directional T5 LEDs that would work better. Otherwise, I will just go back to the standard incandescent, but I can't find anywhere to buy them. Do you?

Hello. I was wondering if you could direct me to the correct LEDs for my climate control unit and also for my instrument panel. I have a 2001 CLK55 W208.
@fupabox9 жыл бұрын
if you get premade (with the socket and bulb in one piece) you will need around ten T5 bulbs and 5 T10 bulbs that will leave you a few extras..
@worldraven9 жыл бұрын
***** Awesome. Thank you for the fast reply. So, will those also fit the climate control unit?

I know this video is old, but I'm desperate so... on my 2000 clk320, one of the climate control bulbs went out. I ordered some T5's and replaced both the bulbs so the brightness would be even. The side that had previously gone out did not work and the side that had worked before, illuminated for a few seconds and then went out. I looked at the bulbs and they look fine. Tried another pair after that, no dice. Stumped. Any ideas?
@fupabox6 жыл бұрын
since LEDs can only flow electricity in one direction, it is possible they just need to be rotated 180 degrees. check a standard bulb of the same size.. if it works then the LEDs are likely just reversed
@samrozell19056 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply and the video! I tried several pairs of LEDs and then bought a standard pair of Sylvania 2721s (I read on a forum that those would work). Still nothing. Maybe it's not getting power somehow. My glove box light is out too, could it be a fuse? I realize it's probably not that, grasping at straws here.
@fupabox6 жыл бұрын
I would say it could possibly be a fuse..I would check that first . there is very specific fuses for glovebox and dash illumination..some are under the hood, and some in the panel beside the headlight switch when the drivers door is open
@samrozell19056 жыл бұрын
Just checked em all, under the hood and next to the headlight switch. They all look good. Really weird. Thanks for the suggestions.

could be a canbus glitch... unhook neg battery cable for 2 minutes ..key out of ignition..then hook the cable back up..key out ..then try again .. Sometimes the canbus will shut down power to circuits it feels are shorted out ..possibly one of the LEDs was bad and caused the canbus to cut power. Usually they reset when the ignition is turned off then restarted , but sometimes unhooking the battery is the only way to reset. These w208 chassis were some of the first to use a full canbus system, and it can be weird at times. The only thing I can think of after trying that , is that something shorted in the circuit board lighting
