Only scratches the surface. To keep it understandable for the majority of viewers and Williams engineers. They didn't go into camber toe in toe out and how the suspension changes those values depending on the centrifugal forces. Example. Camber is how much the tyres are tilted. Want them flat when braking and accelerating in a straight line. But when the car tilts in a corner you lose surface area. So for high corner speeds you'd want the outer tyre flat on the tarmac despite the roll and remain full contact with a potentially bumpy track. You see this can't all be achieved without active suspension which is banned by the rules. So they have to be (and are) very clever in making a mechanical suspension which adepts depending on load. And fine tune it for every specific track. Now how they do it? That goes way over my head as well.

Great work Merc. Such a strong team. They greatly deserve the success that they are enjoying right now. Pure dedication and commitment to achieving one goal, an elite rancing car which is faster than the competition. It's outstanding when you consider that they have only just returned to F1 after decades of non participation. Domination is not good for any sport, but sometimes you just have to accept that they are worthy champions and as fans not demand another team has to be champion just for the sake of it. This attitude is more unhealthy for any sport

I would LOVE to one day see an example (not current year of course) of how the suspension components are constructed and the materials used in building them. It’s always fascinated me how a particular component can carry an extreme loading, either static or dynamic, however only in a particular direction. As in how a front wishbone can absorb impact loading from the weight of the car, and possibly from front-to-rear impacts, but maybe not from rear-to-front or longitudinal impacts. Incredibly complex and interesting, and it would be an unbelievable opportunity to one day get a better sense of ‘the black arts’ used in building them.
@spacecowboy7765 жыл бұрын
mechanics of materials would be a good start, oh and look at chemical structures to get an idea how bonds form and their strengths and weaknesses. honestly it was probably luck at first then lots and lots of experimentation... so more luck.
