Great Car, Great recovery and reconstruction, Great team, Great company, Great history, Great video. I and my wife have owned 17 Mercedes Benz Automobiles over the last 47 years. My first one was a 300 SEL 6.3 L sedan, and after that car, I was hooked. In 1993 I had one of the first 500E automobiles that came to America. And I will say that I once went 140 miles per hour in one of my Mercedes automobiles. And now I am till driving a Mercedes SUV at the age of 77. And I will continue to purchase and drive a Mercedes forever.

Likewise, I have owned many Mercedes over the years, the 1st model being a 1956 220S which my father gave me when he purchased his 'new' 1963 220SE😁 Fast forward over 50 years and (having tried a Jaguar XJ6, a Volvo 244, Open Ascona, Citröens) i am still driving Mercedes cars to this day. My favourite was my beautiful W140 S320, what a sweet engine that car had and the drive comfort was sublime. I am just about to purchase my late friends W124 300D which has only covered (a Mercedes-Benz documented) 53,000 miles from new👍🏻

lol, you haven't worked on many modern ones then, they don't support bugger all, a MB is just a status symbol now, normal run of the mill day to day vehicles are made BER by the time they're about 15-20, never mind reaching 70 like this.

@@glennmoore5880 I don’t know how modern we’re talking here. The most modern MBs I’ve owned have been the M113 and M112 engines with the 5g tronic trans. That set up has worked great for me. I’ve seen some modern fails like with my mother’s W203 (c class)that had transmission issues because of coolant getting mixed in the trans fluid. She has a C207 (E coupe) now so the verdict is still out on that one. Any Mercedes I buy is second hand maybe third so I look for tried and true and I’m not even considering cost cutting A-classes or C-classes. Quality may not be what it was back in the good old days but I think parts will still be available for them.

@@glennmoore5880 My experience is that my US-made R-Classes (I owned two different ones) were less than perfectly made with issues with the self-levelling suspension and the gasoline engine in my R350 (the diesel in my R320 was fine), but the repairs were handled under warranty including a malfunctioning HID headlamp. My 2001 C-class wagon was fine, but was a pig in the snow. My wife's SLK320 was flawless, period. My 2014 GLK250 has been e joy from new, but it did require a replacement particle filter (handled under warranty) and a steering box recall because on some cars some bolts were corroding and it was also subjected to the worldwide Takata airbag recall.

@@omostim2385 The big caution with buying a used Mercedes is that it needs to come with a full service history which must also show that only approved fluids were used and all the work was performed by a competent marque specialist. If it doesn't have that, you should walk away no matter how attractive the price. MB has always had entry-level models and they are still supported by the factory. Edit: on 2nd thought, I don't imagine the X-class will have much support in the future, being that it's a rebadged VW and not at all an actual Mercedes.

That's the wonderful thing about Dunlop. All the vintage car folks I run into at shows are running Dunlop 85% of the time because they still make the right tire for their vintage car. These were the major pioneering times for the auto industries were almost every day people were bringing completely new ideas to the design table. These days it is more about details than major steps with common parts and unified layouts to keep production cost down. Without cars like this we would not have the cars of today. My favourite bit is when the Head of Mercedes Historic just says we will rebuild this car there is never any discussion of budget or outright costs . For sure the car value can never be worked out it would break all sales records if sold on the open market I would guess even as an fully rebuilt car. I am glad they did this before Covid hit and the Financial fall out that we are now starting to see taking place . I have seen this video a few times now it always amazes me .

The manner in which M-B undertook and perfected the total reverse build of the 540K Streamliner is in my opinion a most ample restating of the kinds of dedication, disciplined commitment, intelligence, and wisdom that should be a source of pride for the German People everywhere. Many appreciative comments already made here and below, and somehow one very important point has not been addressed. Whilst every country and society has added much to the development of humanity forming our modern world, no group has ever out classed the developmental engineering accomplishments of the 1930s German people. And you know what I lam leaving unsaid, here.

Working on project like this is something I would value, it even has elements of something spiritual and with technology as we know today that has to be something unique. I like the fact that everything is done safely and money was not an object yet no funds have been wasted, all work done by hand by craftsman and skilled people. Whew! What focus and determination and resources used! We did notice that being historically accurate there was not a visible seat belt and we thought it interesting the wiper blades were stored vertically, perhaps for aerodynamics? Best of luck and thanks for sharing and, from here in the States, we applaud you!

I don't know much about cars, but in the United States at least, Mercedes has always been synonymous with quality, style, and performance. This video is proof that it was as important in the 1930's as it is today. Incredible!

Mercedes-Benz. Engineered like no other car in the world. I am so passionate about Mercedes-Benz classic older motorcars. My daily driver is a 1984 190D 2.2, W201 chassis, 601 engine and she's still going strong! I own another 190D the state wants to pay me to "retire", but I can't bear to think of that big claw at the car wrecker picking her up and smashing her to smithereens, so I actually pay to store her! She needs new injectors that I already have, but I learned when trying to R&R them that my 70-year-old back just can't bend over that long, so I found another 190D same year that a gentleman sold me. I adore the 190D for a multitude of reasons, so I'll just have to figure out how I'm going to keep paying to store my old Baby Benz. Hey! Since the 190 is pretty rare, maybe Mercedes-Benz Classic will restore her too! Every classic Mercedes-Benz is worth saving. Thank you for uploading this fine documentary, Mercedes-Benz .... the tale it told about this 540K Streamliner was exceptional - what an aerodynamic body shape!

Mercedes Benz is thought of as a perfectly designed, perfectly made, perfectly tested car. True. But this video shows, they have emotions, they have heart as well as mind. A short story. Years ago I had a Mercedes, serviced by the dealers. A truck ran into the car while it was parked. I had a good friend who owned a bodywork repair company. I first took the car to the dealers, mentioned my friend could repair it. The service manager took my arm. He said you are free to take the car there. But we would prefer if you would use us. If we made any kind of mistake, we correct it. I said you don't make mistakes. He smiled. They repaired the car.

Amazing video of an amazing car, a masterpiece of an era when bespoke engineering was at it's best, when engineers and not accountants ruled. The dedication of the restoration team, the decision by MB to pursue the project despite so many hurdles, the excellent video by the production team is much appreciated. Preserving the archives for more than 80 years, with a world war in between during which the MB works were bombed to a rubble is nothing short of a miracle. Many, many thanks to all concerned for making and showcasing this excellent video. Raj from beautiful & exotic India.

Being in a technical, hands-on industry myself, I really appreciate and thank Mercedes-Benz for honouring this vehicle and bothering to actually spend the money to employ expert craftsman to attend to this project. Nowadays, too few companies want to spend money on quality craftsmanship, and only want to make money for shareholders. Well done to the directors having the courage and fortitude to be bold.
