From Marko's solo album, which was recorded in both Finnish and English. The Finnish version released in late 2019, with the English one following in early 2020. NW's Human Nature album came out in April 2020. He hadn't left them yet, that was early 2021.

Marko did bring something special to Nightwish. He contributed lyrics and lots of musical pieces. I wish Tuomas would have sensed what Marko needed musically to fulfill his personal creative needs. IMHO - I think he needed more opportunities to write musically and especially to sing much more. No worries Andrei. We all miss Marko with Nightwish. Every musician needs to pursue what he feels in his soul.

I like this. First time I heard it and always enjoy your reactions too. Marko's voice sounds great and all the charisma is still there. I agree that there are some similarities between Marko in this and aspects of Nightwish but there are some fundamental differences to my ears. While both can go to dark places both lyrically and musically, I think Marko (intentionally or instinctively) is a more raw sound and often stays dark rather than resolving into more optimistic feelings. I also think that Tuomas is driven by the scope for beauty in music and will always seek to include feelgood chord progressions whereas Marko's music seems more driven by passion (not that either of these great musicians are lacking in beauty or passion but it's the balance between the two that's distinct). I get what you mean about song/wisdom of the ancients and I can imagine this being sung by an angry bard in an old Nordic saga (albeit with more primitive backing instruments!)

@yourwinefamily1939 shares Marko's quote below (thank you) about this song being about existential crisis. Even though it was written and released before he left Nightwish, Marko has said he struggled with both depression and how the music industry is set up for years. It was an existential crisis that led to his leaving the band, so Andrei does have a good point, I think.

You can see an acoustic guitar on a rack/holder. The guitarist Tuomas Wäinölä plays it just like that. The guitar is in a perfect position for him to play. But it looks strange when he is not holding the guitar himself.

Marko! Still the Nightwish flavour, but he gets to sing a bit softer. "Stones", "Voice of My Father", from "Pyre of the Black Heart". From what he said, I don't think it was the music that put him off, but the record companies and promoters. He feels better now, after a recuperation.

I liked it. Naturally, I miss Marko in Nightwish, but Nightwish is still Nightwish and performing fantastically. I was happy to see Marko writing, singing, and playing great new music here. I think he did what he needed to do to take care of himself, including moving to the warmer climate of Spain. Soak up some rays, bro. We love you.
