@@kenhoyer8601 True. Connie Francis said her father threatened him with a shotgun and told her he didn't want her to ever date a "musician."

Just a great performer with a great personality. He had some tough times & a health condition but still kept going. Next song I suggest “Beyond the Sea”.

Darin wasn't your typical rock and roll singer . He was older and his style came from singing to an older crowd in expensive night clubs than the rock and rollers who aimed at teenagers

You are correct, he has the “it” factor.

Actually my favorite song of his, listening to it over 60 yrs, love it yet, can hear often never get tired of it. Bobby was one of the greatest singers ever. Actually was being groomed to be the next Frank Sinatra. Yes, he had the "it" factor. Many very good songs. Beyond the Sea, Things, If I were a Carpenter, Splish Splash and more.

Splish Splash is for Bobby Darin what Speedy Gonzales is for Pat Boone. Wonderful voices but questionable songs.

At that time, there were no "rock" bands. Most youth oriented bands were classified as pop groups, and there was a ton of single singers like Bobby Darin, Bobby Vinton, Bobby Curtola (latter day crooners) and just as many single female singers and groups around. I think the correct term was vocalists and vocal groups. There were rock and roll groups at the time, but few of them would have been considered true "rock" groups. That started to change around 1964/65....It was an incredible time to be young...!!!!

He was so charismatic. His life's course was very interesting, but far too short because of the rheumatic fever he had as a kid. His cover of If I Were a Carpenter is beautiful, especially the live performance from his TV show.

You are right about the fact that the artist of that time had more natural talent and didn't depend as much on distractions such as half nude dancers as today or computer enhancement to improve their voices. I have lived through the artist of the late 50s through today, and I don't judge all artists even today's but overall, in my personal opinion, the late 50s through the late 70s was the best music. Of course, this is not always the case, and there is excellent artist in all generations. I loved your reaction as always.

Oh man…I was 12-13 when this came out. Huge radio hit. I loved it. And American Bandstand with Dick Clark was THE SHOW for teens for years and years. It was a youth culture institution in late 50’s and early 60’s. It’s how we learned all the latest dances, watching the teens on the show dancing.

He met his true love Sandra Dee ( a famous young actress of that era). They met in Rome, Italy, while filming Come September (which was released in 1961). It was Dee's mother, Mary Douvon, who convinced the actress to go on a date with Darin. They married, but eventually divorced. They had one son who looks alot like his Dad.

Thanks for your reaction. Well, now you've gone and done it. I was 8-9 years old when this came out and I've loved it always. By the way, I believe American Bandstand was sponsored by the Beechnut Gum Company and all the teens in the audience had to chew it during the show.
