As a kid in the 70s playing with my uncle's 45 collection i came across this song And it started my love of music I use to beg my parents to play this song and they said once i had to dance to it so i did I will never forget that and this song I Love Joe for that

Joe puts everything in , every time ,, but there are people here that never get there full props , Leon Russell on Piano , Rita Coolidge back up singer ,, the amazing Bobby keys on Sax, who played with Elvis, Buddy holly , the Rolling Stones and just about every rock album you ever heard a sax on from 62 until he died.

He wasn't really a very outgoing person, in spite of being in the limelight for so long. Very rare to see him smile. "“Leon speaks through his music” - he's awake, all right, he was running this show. A reporter that did an interview with Leon noted that he was "taciturn." He was born with cerebral palsy, causing some paralysis to his right side which resulted in a limp. Also, according to friends and by his own admission, he suffered from either bipolar depression or Asperger’s syndrome, which contributed to crippling bouts of stage fright. His was not an easy life, and those beautiful, melancholy eyes reflect that.

That's quite a stage full of talent, starting with the man that put it all together, Leon Russell. Other luminaries include two legendary drummers, Jim Keltner and Jim Gordon, bass player Carl Radle, Bobby Keys on sax, and many more. They had about eight days to rehearse before they had to hit the stage for their first show, and during one of the rehearsal sessions they recorded "The Letter" and "Space Captain" and those songs were released as a single on A&M records. That became the version that all of us that heard it on AM radio back in the 60's are familiar with.

The album version is very similar, but quite a bit longer. You owe it to yourself to listen to it and the entire album. Tons of great songs, music and just all around plain sweet, gooey greatness. Also, I just watched your "With A Little Help From My Friends" reaction, and left you a description there on how this series of concerts came about. You should go back and read it because it's a fascinating story. However, I urge you again, go and react and/or listen to more of the album. You'll love it ... 'cause it's what's been missing in your life !!!

I love so many of these old Joe Cocker songs. This one, High Time We Went, Feelin' Alright, Woman to Woman, ... they're all great, amazing. Wow, just saw the sax solo, looks like Bobby Keyes. Joe Cocker had Lewy Body Dementia , to much protein in the brain. It can cause trouble with motor skills.

Source? There is so much speculation about his performance style, but hard to find proof of any particular disorder. A lot of the speculation was that he had a neurological disorder, but there is no evidence to support that. IF he did have lewy body dementia, it was likely towards the end of his life; he died of lung cancer at age 70.
