He did not learn that in merc school. This is y the product gets bad pub. About 70 percent of the videos are bad info on hear. I looked at a lot of them theas people never attended a merc Volvo or omc class and their telling you how to screw your boat up don't figure? Its intertaning if nothing else.

A lot of do it yourself'er don't know that you do need to change the lower shift cable on a mercruiser when you find yourself turning up the ldle to keep your boat running when shifting into neutral. That is a sure sign your lower shift cable is bad when idle is up to keep it running because your interrupt switch cannot do it's job when shifting.

I like your boat and what your doing, but you really dont explain how to do a cable adjustment in general, for everyones boat, not just the problem your having,,and you gotta move that camera slower man

Don't do this theirs a mesurments for the drive cable on the old units its five and something inch then they went to 6 on later drives you have to look it up but you don't turn the adj and check it? This is all set with enginnot running. Shift interrupter switch no adjustment make sure centering springs good not broker mercruser was pulling there hair out in the 70s with guys like this screwing with the adjustments!

whats does turning that piece of metal do? and how do you know which direction it needs to go. Could it be possible you just have bad cables and need to replace the entire cable?

A boat Im fixing to get has an early 90s OMC Cobra 4.3L V6.(Its a Sunbird Corsair 185). It has a linkage problem to where it wont shift into neutral. Any suggestions as to what it might be?

Your problem is with your "interrupter "switch. If the boat goes into gear and not out then your interrupter is not functioning properly. The interrupter is NOT a neutral safe switch. And sorry to say is that merely adjusting your barrel nut will not fix this problem. Adjusting the barrel nut will only effect how far the cable travels in either direction. The interrupter switch actually stays stationary while the bracket moves up and down to actuate the switch.

thought ur video was very informative man....i was having an issue with my propeller not turning. then i realized it wasnt even going in gear, so i had to adjust my cables.....long story short im a first time boat owner and this video helped me out a lot...thanks...ignore the etihwcs douche bad.

Too many people that don't have knowledge making videos. The rear cable he is working on is the shift cable (fwd and rev) to the outdrive, the other cable comes from the remote shifter. In addition there is another cable that goes to the throttle.

So it goes straight from forward to reverse and vise versa? I would start by checking for proper operation of the neutral cutoff switch. The momentary stall that it creates allows the gears to disengage. If you watch part 2 of this video I show how to adjust it better.

Hi, my friend has a rigid raider, it's a ex military boat, he has the engine out and has asked me to look at it for him. I am a car mechanic and have no knowledge of marine!. I see the shift cables that go to a lever type connection on the engine but I don't see where they connect to on a gearbox?. What should I look for?

The brass barrels adjust the stroke length of the cable.
