question? I had my seal fail there behind the ujoint as you show in this video. it look like inside my bellow was oil wet. My gears dried I'm guessing lacked oil sheared and my boat was stopped in its tracks no forward or reverse had to be towed home. Just pulled the top cover this evening and then removed the drive. Wondering if I fixed it myself if its worth it. Cost wise also concerned how much metal got into my lower unit. Do I have to completely tare down my lower unit too or is there a easy way to flush it of any debree??

Making it a DIY project will be personal preference and if you choose to go that route, we will be here to help the entire time! Price will vary depending on parts purchased. We like to stick to OEM as much as possible…which increases price. You can drain gear oil from lower unit port and see what kind of metal shaving buildup has gathered on the magnet probe on opposite end of screw. If it’s LOADED with shavings…rebuild is always an option. Some may recommend adding fresh new gear oil and putting 10-15 hours on the engine and then draining it again to inspect shavings amount. If it’s far less than before, some may say you got what was an issue, out of the case…which is good. Either way, we are here to help. Looking forward to hearing back from you!
