Mercury 60hp 4 stroke Fuel pump issues Pt 1

Just did my 2017 40hp jet. Got the amazon pump, new filters. Friend of a friend told me mercury are bad for hoses deterioration and it clogs the pump. My boat doesn't set very long so everything was clean. Pump sh!t the bed though. I went ahead and replaced all the fuel lines anyway. Warning, the short fuel lines on the vapor separator are preformed hoses. I had to loop my hose around to avoid kinking it. You can get a delphi pump from napa for about $70 but it's automotive style and you will have to change wire terminals to make it work. We'll see how well the amazon pump does. I feel confident you’re on the right track. That pump and screen looked horrible. The rust is probably also a by product of it sitting without running, the heat of it running at regular intervals burns off condensation. Good excuse to get out more once you’ve got it pull together 👍

Well done, love these type of videos as it gives me a preview of what to expect as I take things apart. You probably discovered that you only have to remove the upper left screw; the float tank assembly will just slide upward on its other two rubber islolators. Thanks!

The good thing is that you caught it now before trying to go out on the water with it. Best with anything used to go over it all, take your time, and get things right. Everyone is too "go, go, go" these days and then get surprised when something goes wrong because they didn't take their time to work out any kinks.

These pumps are just like those in your fuel tank in your truck. Be careful with the pumps as some are knock offs and cut corners making them...get one which has some reputation do your research. Also replace those fuel filters AND the fuel lines from the tank...many of these lines will NOT like alcohol in the gas and deteriorate rapidly. Any good gas line will work...not one that is coated with a lining. Once you replace the pump make sure that the low pressure pump is not leaking as the diaphragms go to pot after a few years of use. If those leak it will allow fuel into your engine...and we know that is not good. Pretty cheap to replace them...as they are pretty cheap on line.

Hello Mr. Wallace very good videos. I will remove and clean my VST (Merc 2006, 40hp EFI) because random engine bogging issues. Bought a less expensive (40$) high pressure fuel pump on internet (non Mercury, probably from china, look the same). Wondering if your less expensive pump did a good job after running hundred hours. Some says problems can occure with de ECU. Tank you Normand, frenchman from Québec.

You'll get her fiqured out Mr Ricky ! That's a little different then them old Johnsons with the diaphragm pumps! But once you get that going, that four stroke is the way to go!

Ethanol ruins everything and letting gas sit long periods does too. Hope it's running good

I see you found the canister. Next video mention how important fuel stabilizer is. Our fuel nowadays can do that over winter. A bottle of stabilizer will prevent it. If you have any concern with the injectors, you can get a fuel injector test kit cheap. Some Injectors have screens also. If the injectors are clogged it will still run, but not have as much flow which can lean out that cylinder and burn a piston. Just a little FYI why you are in it.

Hey man just a question what was the original problem ? I’ve been haveing issues with my 2022 60hp….mainly is dieing a top end randomly but have no issues at other speeds seems smooth

The boat sat for 4 years with fuel in it, The guy that gave it to me only used regular fuel with no stabilizer in it. The etonal fuel just ate the pump up. That could be a fuel filter issue, Not sure. Thanks for watching!

You better spend the money on mercury.. those Chinese parts drain over 5 amps!! Only suppose to pull like 3.2 amps It can get your computor!!! It will always throw a code

Wrong they from around $80 to $600 it depends what brand you get them but the cheapest you byy them the less that will last plus it can cause a beeping alarm on your boat
