I can't tell you how long I've looked for clarity on this issue and finally found your video. I'm adding a 2006 Merc 9.9 Pro Kicker to my boat for trolling and got a motor without the control box. Just found a box and now all I need to do is see which cables I need to fit the box. Very helpful. Thank you!

That helped immensely. It is quite insane how little information there is out there on this stuff. Thank you so much.

Gen I cables have the "Barrel" style retaining end on the control side of the cable. Gen II cables have the "Slot" retaining end on the control side of the cable. So, the type of control box determines the type of cables you will need. The Motor end of both Gen I and Gen II cables are the Same.

My neutral on my remote control is slightly back from center on the remote control. Would I adjust the shift cable on the engine or adjust in the remote control? It's a 2016 115hp?

Thanks for the awesome info. I just ran into this problem.
@ct1762 Жыл бұрын
@@kckrol85 that would be the engine end. disconnect shift cable at motor. manually shift to neutral. shift control box to exactly center/neutral. now adjust the cable trunnion so it fits perfectly on motor end.
@grahamdrew5512 Жыл бұрын
correct FYI GENERALLY all newer engines are backwards compatible vis a vis cables. you will need a conversion cable to connect 14 pin to 8 pin for example.

Typically when ordering cables, there's next to no description, one advert I read said fits all 2 and 4 stroke mercury/mariner, clearly they don't, so thanks for clearing this up.

Hey bud, just came across your video today, and you've done exactly what i'm looking at doing now for the same reasons. But I do have one question, how did you go with the wiring from your gen 1 controller? Ignition, choke and trim/tilt. Cheers bud.

@@sheckb1 I used Mercury remote ignition kit that I bought from PartsVu. Part # 15000A7

Great Video. Quick question, the new trek safety switch yellow and red wire, what do you wire the send end too?? I know you hook the one part into the harness coming for the outboard but that wiring in the controls shows a second connection as well. What does that wire to? Thanks.

Hey same issue sorta here. So I couldn’t tell from the video but the new one you got was it Gen 1 or 2. I need one but the motor seems opposite to most and it’s like it needs a push instead of pull action on the cable and seeing if yours was like that? Cheers
@SheepdogShaun3 жыл бұрын
New one is Gen 2. There should be a way to reverse the direction.

Could you tell me the length of the gap where it secure the cable in the control? Im in need to buy my cables and my control is a GEN II but my engine is a Yamaha F225. Mercury bought this engine in 2004 and painted them in black and used Mercury GEN I controls. Now Im replacing the control and I step into this issue
@SheepdogShaun4 жыл бұрын
I don't understand what you're asking for
@angelvargas824 жыл бұрын
Shaun Singer Hi! Theres a part where you describe the difference between the GEN I and II. The gen II has a gap that goes in the controller, do you know the size of that gap? I bought universal cables with the proper ends threads, but I dont know if the gap is deep enough to be used in the Mercury Gen II Controller.
