Makes me want to re-consider mushroom hunting. A great hobby and lots of reading material available for the cold months. My grandfather would pick mushrooms from the front lawn...I guess he knew what he was doing, he lived to be 103 years old.

Great vid! The knife is very cool! As a person who went mushroom picking since childhood (with my grandpa) l can say that hawk bill blade is indeed the most comfortable for the task of picking them but where it really comes in handy is when you bring them home and begin cleaning and cutting them (yes, this knife has this purpose too). No other blade shape can compare to that. The jimping too is used much more for the final cleaning. As for the tweezers l never had it in my mushroom knives but l think for splinter removal task it should always be accompanied by a pin (like some victorinox have). I have opinel mushroom knife, it has all the attributes just like the one shown in the video except for the tweezers. Beech wood handle though, simple but good. And l don’t have to say how thin the blade is behind the grind, it’s opinel! A rare knife can compete with it. The thickness behind the grind is absolutely crucial for a mushroom knife because some brittle types of mushrooms (rusula for instance) will merely break to pieces you don’t want if you try to cut them with something thick. So opinel mushroom knife is highly recommended, although unfortunately l never saw it in olive(my favorite too).

I'm pretty sure the Opinel Mushroom knife is only in the Beach Wood. I've been looking for a while. Have you used the Mora Mushroom knife? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I have a Mercury pocket knife with a fork on it and they still make other knives. They are affordable and comes in olive wood or stag handle. As a mushroom hunter here in the UK I have the RR which is cheap and cheerful and have withstand years of use. The only thing that it is quite heavy compared to my Opinal. However the Opinal ring lock system is unreliable as the ring can snap of and break or get lost when you twist it the wrong way and I could not find a ring replacement. So I had to buy a number 8 knife and take the lock ring of that. This has happened to 2 of my Opinal knives now. That's what happens when you lend your knives to people Lol. However I have never seen the Mercury mushroom knife for sale. I must look out for one as you done a nice review. Btw the boar hairs brush is a must have when picking mushrooms. Also the Mercury knife seems a lot lighter than the RR, I noticed that in their knives compared to others. Wow they sell one with a compass, now that's a must have as I've gotten lost in the woods many times LOL. All the best thank you for the review. Wow

Sounds like the 913 series. I just re-shot a video on that knife as well. Should be up in a week or two! Really good knives. I keep thinking about the Opinel but just haven't bought it.

In my opinion you have one of the best mushroom knives. I didn't know about the jimping for cleaning the steam of the mushrooms. looking forward to the video cheers mate

I don't hunt for mushrooms, but with regular knife use I don't use the lock on my opinel, and eventually removed the lock ring entirely.
