I have another video where it spun it over 10,000 rpms and added some fuel for the hole shot. It sounded a little shitty at idle but picked up a couple tenths of a second to 800', which is almost two boat lengths in a drag race.

Don't see Dry Stacks much anymore. I doubt they help performance much on mid 80s V6 but the sound and looks are a good enough reason. Even with offshore type exhaust I would tell that motor is right and tight. Those retro stickers are a sweet touch too. Whats it,? Early 80s 2.4 ?
@Chadwicky69 Жыл бұрын
That is a 1990 Merc 200 F block and the pipes were designed to be totally reversable. They actually make less power as they were designed to be a bolt on and after all the work it took to get the pipes to function as a bolt on, they still can't collect all of the exhaust coming from the ports, unless we wanted to make them permanent.
@Chadwicky69 Жыл бұрын
Either way, the pipes would probably cost horsepower over the standard exhaust chest and 12" mid setup I have. If you could collect 100% you may have a chance to play around with tuning to get closer, but I still doubt it. There wasn't enough time to test the motor on the boat before the pipes were installed. May have to try them after they are taken off and see........
@miketee2444 Жыл бұрын
@@Chadwicky69 I still think it's bad ass. One upping a Merc. Engineer isn't easy. Six big cones with on the fly adjustable length will gain something but the cost for a few HP up top is always high. The motor sounds perfect to me as is.

I would have to look at the data, but I believe it was 9200ish. The other vid I uploaded after an intake swap and a proper tune ran up to almost 10,200. I raced it last weekend in better air and a better tune that netted just under 10,400 plus .03 sec faster ET to 800'

Why does it say 2.5 horsepower in the caption? They’re 2.5 liter engines that make 240 horsepower. Anyways, I love the boat. That thing is badass.
@Chadwicky69Ай бұрын
I don't know what caption you are talking about.? I didn't type anything like that, as far as I can remember, unless I was drunk lol. It is a 200hp, not a 240hp. I don't know of any 2.5 Merc outboard that was rated @ 240 but let me know if they did. Btw, nice sig pic!
@UltraMagaFan2Ай бұрын
@@Chadwicky69 I commented this on a KZbin short. KZbin glitched and put it on your video for some stupid reason. And the 240 horsepower 2.5 I was talking about was modified. It was a built racing engine that made 240 horsepower. It was on a Phantom 25.

that is awesome but if you got a huge battle wake can’t that hydro lock the engine
@Chadwicky69 Жыл бұрын
If you are not moving and a bunch of water splashes into the pipes, it could easily get into the bottom 4 cyls and cause it to hydrolock but that would most likely happen if you were backing up or sitting still. It can be taken apart so the water could be drained and cleaned out if it wasn't running hard when it happened. Put it back together and run it for a while to make sure nothing inside the motor is left to make it rust. They actually have plenty of clearance if you leave it trimmed up all the way.....steep boat ramps is what I worry about!

sorry but why are there only 2 mufflers instead of 6? v6 engine🤔
@Chadwicky69 Жыл бұрын
This was a fun experiment and no power gains were expected. Running two pipes took away some bottom end torque and high end hp but work fairly well in the mid-range. I wanted to run 6 separate pipes but they would produce even less power as each side uses the tuned exhaust from the 3 cyls work with each other. That's why "stacker" pipes are commonly put in pairs or triples......not to mention the logistics were pretty much an impossibility anyway.

Around 90 mph....This was a test for the drag race class that I was setting the boat up for.
