I know you meant this as an ultimate compliment to Jeff, but think about it - there will never be anyone to play like me or you (and maybe neither of us is any great shakes at playing guitar, but we're probably both unique in some ways). What you love about his playing is more than that it was unique. It was also transcendent, beautiful, powerful and enduring. It moved millions of people. So being unique was maybe its least important characteristic (except that it was unique in being so powerful) ...

I've been listening to Jeff Beck for maybe 50 years now and I have NEVER gotten tired if listening. I've seen this video many times before and it's like Manna from heaven for the ears and the spirit every time. It was so uplifting when he was still with us and it remains uplifting when I listen again but now, I'm sadly reconciled to hereafter being profoundly saddened again as I snap out of it and remember that he's not walking the planet at the same time I am anymore. At times it's grace to know that all things must pass and other times it's the tragic part of life. The greater the gift the greater our sadness when it passes... as it must.
@cynthiamclaglen56872 ай бұрын
Yes but however sad we are, he will be in a beautiful place. He was a good person who wanted to do good, and respected his friends and those he loved. His music was influenced by the music he heard in his home as his mother was a trained concert pianist, as mine was. When one hears all kinds of music it has a big influence on any music one might produce later & when one is young hearing different kinds of music is a good thing. Jeff used to take rides in his Uncle's sports car and he had a radio in it, so Jeff heard jazz of all kinds. All of it had an influence on him. My mother had the same background in music as his mother but in addition she also played jazz professionally. I heard all kinds of music, from Umar Sumac ( as Jeff also did) to African music from Kenya where I was brought up. Film music has had an influence also, as it did with Jeff. He was really special and his music was different too. Cynthia Allen-McLaglen

@@matthewleclair6817 that’s why I put “special effects” in quotation marks. I just mean fancy/showy techniques. But like I said, the way Jeff Beck used them they weren’t really showy. He made them musical in a way that few if any ever could. Undeniably one of the greatest musicians of all time.

Nothing but bent, tickled, compressed, twisted, extended, nuanced in every conceivable way notes all infused with the healing power of true emotion and deep spirituality. All of it 100% authentic straight from the heart feeling that reflect his many years of lived experience. And, no simple or pure notes whatsoever except when they are, and then they are as pure and clean as the purest, untouched crystalline water from a sacred pool hidden deep within some undiscovered jungle (or, possibly from the garden of Eden.) I've loved his work beginning in the sixties (Yardbirds, then Jeff Beck Truth album). I used to think Jeff Beck was an extremely talented master of his craft; then I understood that Beck was an avatar; then he became the god of the guitar; then of all music. Now, I think he may actually be god come down to play the most incredible music ever to bless mortal ears. How good is something that you can't quite believe you're hearing, or when it's over that you can't quite believe you heard?
