I'm a goaltender in hockey I have been for almost 8 years now, this girl impresses the crap out of me she trains twice as hard as I do every day. Most of my training is hand-eye coordination, reflex, distinguishing patterns. It'd be awesome to meet her and train with her, or any gymnast for that matter

This girl rocks! So impressed with her dedication and skill in the sport, It is wonderful she's going for the 2016 Olympic team @ 22 yos, no doubt she's up for the challenge, Aly's got the fortitude to pull it off too. What a thing of beauty to watch her execute phenomenal moves on all the apparati with such precision, power, confidence, and grace. She will make a good team leader in Rio; cannot wait for San Jose qualifying. These women amaze me, their abilities are breathtaking and their singular focus on gymnastics every day of the year for 10+ years before getting a shot at turning pro and maybe making it to the national team, spectacular. Double Arabian dismount!

I'd like to think nowadays thetes a move sway from gymnasts having to workout to overload as she describes here. No one can convince me its in any way 'good' for your body to, as she describes, wake up the day after a workout and virtually collapse to the floor due to pain and exhaustion. The approach of 'less is more' makes far more sense. Yes she's a brilliant gymnast, but she probably would have bern just as great without having to put her body through that much.

@TheGymSavant11 жыл бұрын
Well, 19 is pretty old by gymnastics standards...
@WAGgymSuperFan11 жыл бұрын
***** is it
@TheGymSavant11 жыл бұрын
***** Yep. Most Olympic gymnasts are 16-19 years old, since they have much more "energy" then… some do continue the sport for a while. There is one gymnast who is 39ish (Oksana Chusovitina).
@gymbobble11 жыл бұрын
***** Not any more. That is old thinking. These days many gymnasts are competing until their late 20's and continuing to get better.
@cordeliaprice681411 жыл бұрын
***** Average age of female gymnasts at the London Olympics using exact dates of birth was 20 yrs 3 months. Median date of birth was 9/28/92. Almost half were 20 years of age or older. Although peak performance in the all around still appears to be less than 20. At 2013 World Championships 3 of the 24 gymnasts in the AA final were 20 or older.

Can someone please explain to me.....how did she earn 3 medals? I thought the whole US team only got one gold medal each. Do they have to earn the gold medals on their own, or is it a team thing?
@gracelovespink979 жыл бұрын
She got gold for team. And then they have separate competitions for each event. So she got gold on floor and bronze on beam for those two event finals.
@babiluv4819 жыл бұрын
Team Final: Gold Medal Floor Final: Gold Medal Beam Final: Bronze Medal SN: In the all around final she tied with Aliya Mustafina for the bronze but she lost the tie breaker. I hate the tie breaker rule, especially the all around tie breaker. I mean if you think about it , it's not an all around medal if you drop an apparatus off the score. Sigh. Oh well.
@sunshine119319 жыл бұрын
Michelle Toren Okay, so basically every US team member had to earn their own gold medal? Or is that where the team final comes in? I'm just confused because when I watched the medal ceremony, it only showed all the teammates with one gold medal.
@icyballerina9 жыл бұрын
sunshine11931 Each apparatus has separate competitions with separate medal ceremonies in addition to the team event. It's like how Michael Phelps gets one gold medal for freestyle, another for butterfly, and everybody on the team gets one for the relay!

@ JuliaI caught a hint of the sarcasm in your comment... ;) How many 40 year old, heterosexual virgins have you come across? My epelipsy has turned away many from the opposite sex but this is my world. Well, all except for the fact that I'm not 40 yet - to date, I've got another 1.5 yr to go to hit that mark. Still, how pathetic am I? lol....Anyway, as for Aly, I've been supremely impressed with everything about her. Everything I've been exposed to about this girl has been amazing; she's an attractive woman with incredible heart, dedication, talent and what appears to be to same kind of values that I hold close to my heart. In short, I think that she's an incredible woman. We've never met but I'd be honored to be able to call her a friend of mine.
