So awesome of CN to donate this! I was just grabbing some photos of it across the field yesterday. Sure wish the museum was open so I could go and see it up close haha!

This is very awesome this got donated, I was starting to worry there would not be a single C40-8M left with how CN has been scrapping them. Unfortunate that its one of the few that got repainted, but hopefully itll get repainted into BC Rail paint and restored at some point. Amazing work

I think the reason is why they chose a repainted one because it has very little frame sag
@yeahman7011 ай бұрын
@@BCrailguy45basically every C40-8M has a frame sag and you can see it on this one. It’s likely that they asked cn to buy one and then cn just gave them a random one and it happened to be the repainted one

@@yeahman70 4618 got a new engine less than four years ago and is mechanically complete. It might be the last cowl unit to have gotten a major mechanical overhaul and is also one of the most recently repainted one, having been painted in the current CN colours around 2010 or 2011.

I’m glad one got preserved, there’s a few Dash 8s sitting in Council Bluffs, IA waiting to be taken to be scrapped. I managed to see them moving some around before about 2/3s were taken back in July. Not all of them are Cowls though, there’s C40-8s, C40-8Ws and the C40-8M. There was also an IC Blue Devil, but that’s gone.

BCOL and BCIT are the reporting marks for BCRail. This unit was done out in the red, white and blue colours, you can see some evidence of that around the grilles on the aft end. I have a few hours on the new controller, the Cine mode is amazing, not well represented in this footage, it was quite windy, and the window was very small.

@@meriachee BCOL stands for BC On Line, for stuff that stayed in Canada and predominantly operated on home rails. BCIT was used for cars that were intended for International Traffic and had the appropriate duties and taxes paid so they could legally be used for shipments into the U.S. And there is a third British Columbia Railway reporting mark, BCNE, which was used for coal cars that were jointly owned and operated by CN and BC Rail between Prince Rupert and the northeastern BC mines.
